Well, it's not like they win with him anyway, so? How many winning seasons has he had? Two?
Don't get me wrong, I'd love to trade for him. But, as with nearly all PFs, they are best suited to be a side kick rather than the...what do you call a side kick's superior?
Thank you for your invaluable insights.Neil wants AD but Dame, CJ, Nurk, Collins and Simmons are off the table.
If healthy, I mostly agree. Although in an ideal world I'd much rather put the talent at SF (someone like PG) and then have someone in the mold of Haslem/Millsap at PF.Whatever he is, there is no more perfect compliment to Lillard than Davis. He even fits well next to Nurk. Nurk doesn’t care about touches he’d more than happy to take on more responsibility in a facilitator role.

Remember when Chris Webber cried because he was being traded to Sacramento? He ended up falling in love with the Fans/City, take a chance Neil.
I think that is a little too ambitious to get both AD and Mirotic.
I think that is a little too ambitious to get both AD and Mirotic.
What about this:
Pelicans get CJ, Collins, Trent, 2019 Por 1st (Unprotected), and a 2019 Atl 2nd
Hawks get Solomon Hill, Nik Stauskas, 2021 Por 1st (lottery protected)
Blazers get AD, Lin, and Prince (TPE)
Atlanta gets their future 1st for taking on a bad contract. New Orleans gets out of Hill's contract as a tiny bit of extra incentive. Portland gets a guard and a wing to help cover CJ's loss in the lineup.
I think that 1st would have to be part of the AD side so you'd need another 1st for Mirotic (in my opinion). Is it really that ambitious? It’d essentially be CJ, Zach, and Simons for AD, and Aminus expiring (dash bird rights) and a first for Mirotic. Chicago had to take on Asik to get a first from New Orleans in the first place, so this is a step up imo

That may be true but once a player gets drafted and hasn't done anything in the NBA I just don't think he has the value of a 1st rounder right now. Plus I think he's still needed on the AD side even if he has the value you are saying he has.Ok then it’s CJ, Zach, and a first for AD and then Simons and Aminus expiring for Mirotic. Remember, there were quite a few publications that projected Simons as a lottery pick next year had he went to Louisville. He’s a better asset than most late firsts.

Trying to find diamonds in the rough or players that once had promising talent for cheap is way different than those players having the same value as when they were drafted in a trade for a star.I disagree with this completely. Look at Olshey for example. He still targets players based on predraft evaluations.

For example, New Orleans currently has the 10th pick. Do you think they would trade it for Zach Collins because he was picked 10th a few years ago?
I'm not holding it against him that he hasn't played. I just don't think a player who was picked late in the 1st round and hasn't played would still have the value of a 1st rounder (or more) in a trade like this. I'm not so sure we could get a 1st today for Simons in a trade.Sure, if they liked Zach more than the guys projected to go in their range. But Zach isn’t quite the same as Simons. Simons hasn’t even played. Holding that against him, or devaluing him because of that, less than a year after he was selected, would be insanely stupid/shortsighted.
It’s gonna be funny when AD is traded to LA and we trade for Love.
I know Chicago took on money this year too, but they were also well below the salary floor last year which meant they were going to have to pay that money whether they took on salary or not.I’ll say the same thing about the Pelicans as I did about the Bulls last year. Good for them if they get a first for Mirotic. If Chicago couldn’t get one last year without taking on money, why would New Orleans get one when the acquiring team would have even less control over him?

Yeah, he had one of those partial-guaranteed contracts next year which made the money less than if we sent Leonard and a 1st over. If you think about it though trading Simons and a contract for Mirotic would have been exactly what it took last year too since Simons ended up being our 1st round pick. Despite what Olshey says I don't believe our Trade Exception was ever in play because of the tax. So it would've been something like Leonard, Vonleh, and our 1st (Simons) for Mirotic. The bulls are not only paying Asik this year, but next as well.
Good luck to the Pelicans getting a first for Mirotic without taking on money. It most likely isn’t gonna happen. Getting someone like Simons would be a miracle, and I wouldn’t do it in a vacuum. But if I knew we were also getting AD? Maybe.
