No, the Blazers didn't have the combination of ending contracts (unless you're willing to part with Chief and Curry for Mirotic) and second round picks that were needed to get the job done. Sure, he could have thrown an offer of Harkless plus a first at the Pelicans (and probably did), but they want cap relief for this summer, not next.
He absolutely should have traded Aminu/Curry for Mirotic if that was an option. But, I think spending a 1st round pick on an expiring contract isn't a good idea. And from NOP's perspective, 2nd round picks are more attractive than Aminu+Curry.

Garrett Temple and JaMychal Green to Clips for Avery Bradley.

Jesus.

Clips have no need to trade Gallo now. They just opened up more space.

The Pelicans wanted ending contracts AND picks for Mirotic. You can't say that the Blazers had ending contracts (that no sane person would trade for Mirotic) and a 1st round pick and claim that Olshey screwed up somehow by having the needed assets but being unwilling to use them

go back and find where it was I criticized Olshey for not trading for Mirotic after the trade was announced. If you can, then your point is good. if you can't, then it isn't

I was criticizing the notion that Portland didn't have expiring contracts sufficient for the deal, or the draft assets sufficient for the deal. They had both

I've haven't wanted Mirotic approaching this trade deadline. After the trade for Hood, I can see the logic of a Harkless + a 1st for Mirotic but I was ambivalent about it

as for Aminu and Curry. I question if either will be back next year, especially Aminu. Portland will be way too close to the tax threshold and they have to re-sign Layman. I think he'll be the priority. A PF rotation of Mirotic + Zach...is it better than Aminu + Zach? Worse? I think acting like it's some big downgrade is loopy

Dame's prediction is coming true
Haha - I was thinking about that quote earlier! Too lazy to pull it up, but Lavar could sure learn from Dame about how to speak things into existence!

Go Get Frank!

Oddly enough, one of my 'sauces' mentioned Charlotte as a team he heard Portland had contacted. Then the speculation of that some 30+ pages back was....Kaminsky.

Wojnarowski - Toronto is planning to send Jonas Valanciunas, Delon Wright, CJ Milles and a 2024 second-round pick to the the Grizzlies for Gasol, league sources tell ESPN.

I think JV is a lot better than the amount of minutes he plays. Good deal for Memphis.

Wow who could’ve predicted that.

It's somewhat surprising to me how few first round picks have been in play.

Portland is rumored to be one of the few willing to part with it...yet NO is seemingly having trouble closing the deal.

Operative word here is rumored.

Because no one wants to take on dead salary next year.

Turner, Harkless and Leonard are all dead salaries.

Business as usual.
