Trade 2021 Off-Season Trade Ideas

I just don’t see how that makes us any better. Maybe a little deeper. What we really need is another very solid/borderline star player.

Yeah, good luck finding a deal for one with CJ as the centerpiece. More likely CJ himself turns into that star than that happening I think, hence me trying to move him for better balance.

Another idea:

MEM gets:
CJ

POR gets:
Kyle Anderson
Justise Winslow
Tyus Jones

I don't hate the unicorn but he's not playing PF next to Nurk at C. So if we swung that deal I would want Nurk traded.

I would even throw in a future first if needed.

The most valuable asset in this deal is the guy being paid 4 million.

Also, Burke has a 3 year deal? What the fuck.

yeah, Finney-Smith looked real good this season. Trouble is, I think the Mavs noticed that

Something like this needs to happen

Resign Powell

Trade CJ + Nurk +a pick for Towns+Beasley

Let Melo Walk. Let Kanter Walk. Let DJJ walk.

Resign Collins, Sign Kelly Olynyk, Sign TJ McConnell, Sign Torey Craig

Resign Giles

PG Dame / McConnell
SG Powell /ANT / Elleby
SF Beasely/Little /Craig
PF Covington/ Collins
C KAT /Olynyk/Giles

Poor Ol' Zingus. Seems to have some Nurk immaturity in him. Pass!

am I the only one who doesn't have a subscription to that website?
its just hollinger spouting crap again. can't take him too seriously, especially with matters related to portland. this is the guy who said Gobert should be MVP and Dame wasn't even top 10.

I don't think we need to give a first for that. Porzingis is very bad value for this contract.

The player id love to see here is Ben Simmons. Elite defender and great floor vision. It would also allow Dame and resigned Powell have open jumpers with his ability to get into the paint and kick

I think what we need is for Philly and Milwaukee to flame out.

Giannis and Embiid aren't moving but Simmons and Middleton might be available. Simmons has been my dream pairing for Dame for years, and Middleton is a taller/better defending CJ who is a better fit with Dame than CJ is.

Something like this, with more picks going from POR to Philly. We'd also need to bring back Powell and Collins and get into luxury tax hell. But that's the only way to get a true championship roster around Dame. Charlotte also undoes an overpay for Hayward while getting a starting quality center who can flourish with Lamelo (also a Rich Paul client).

Dame (40 mil)
Powell (20 mil)
Hayward (30 mil)
Simmons (30 mil)
Collins (5 mil)

Then Simons/Little/Jones off the bench and use whatever else exception to fill out the roster. Jody would be paying out the nose, but there is no way Dame would leave that roster. And we'd have two all NBA players and three borderline all stars with a terrific ancillary piece in Powell. AND a good young core that could pop in Simons/Zach/Little/Jones.

Given the Simmons/Hayward health histories, it's a risk, but one worth taking imo.

You know Dallas has to make moves so that is the best trading partner in terms of willingness. You would have to consider CJ for Porzingis even if he is not a perfect player with injuries etc. Brunson would be a killer backup PG.

If CJ's value is really flatline, I think a sell-low move would be something like this.

CJ to NYK
DJJ to CLE
K-Love and Nance Jr. to PDX

NY would hopefully throw a pick to CLE/us as well. I think we could get some use out of Love and this would make our starting unit defense very nice.

Lillard/Powell/Covington/Nance/Nurkic

The Blazers would have to get a 1st round pick as well. Love /Nance improves the frontcourt for sure. Love would obviously need to stay healthy. A change of scenery could do him well. And Nurk has to look in the mirror, get his arse in the gym, and work on his game NOW! Hopefully the Blazers can get a better piece in return now, but who knows. Then again, Houston traded Harden for basically a cheese sandwich, and a bag of chips to be named later.

I don't have any trades in mind per se, just a vague idea of what I want the roster/ rotation to look like next season.
  • Dame, Norm, RoCo, Ant and Nas are the only players I have any particular desire to keep. Everyone else is expendable.
  • As to the rotation, to those 5 players I'd want to add:
    • A legit backup PG who's capable of actually running an offense when Dame sits;
    • A 2-way starting forward to be the #2 offensive option;
    • A mobile big who can rebound and can defend on the perimeter
    • A tough backup bruiser, junkyard-dog;
    • A bench wing sharpshooter
I have no idea who these players should be, or how we would acquire them, nor do I have any idea if anyone on our roster outside of the 5 I listed can fill any of those roles. Maybe Zach can be that mobile big; maybe Elleby is that sharpshooter. If anyone does have ideas, I'm all ears.

Key pieces for the “team” considering basketball is a team sport and we need a close-knit group on the court and in the locker room:

Dame = no better leader
Kanter = hard working, enthusiastic team mate
Melo = hall of famer that is a coach as much as he is an off-the-bench scorer [should be used a bit less in 21-22, but provided he’s ok with this, he’s an important cog in a championship team
RoCo = I’m not certain he’s a starter. I like this guy but I believe he should be used in a trade with CJ to bring us a star
Nurkic = if we cannot bring in Sabonis or Towns, we must keep Nurkic
DJJ = He is poison. Trade him
Ant = I see Ant as a starter next to Dame! I believe that Powell will move on.
Collins = injury prone. Maybe he’ll become great - probably just hurt. Trade him or let him go

So here is what we have, based upon the above:

Dame + vet point guard
Ant + a vet defender
Free Agent + Little
Star PF vía Trade of RoCo & CJ + free agent + Melo
Nurkic + Kanter + draft picks

we have a lot of holes and realistically only CJ / RoCo / Collins and picks as trade bait

what free agent(s) will want to come to Portland?

looks a bit bleak to me.

summation:

we will keep everyone we can and sign Powell. Only RoCo and DJJ will be traded. OLSHEY will get one more year and the new coach won’t be Kidd or Billups -
Collins is a Rfa he can't be traded until later in the year.

hard, hard pass on Hayward. Nooooo thank you

CJ for Simmons would be the most intriguing option in my opinion. Whatever the package is.

Simmons
Siakam
Middleton

Pipe dream: Giannis demands a trade to Portland.
I do believe Giannis is a pipe dream even if he demanded a trade.
