On one hand, it’s stupid that cannabis is banned by the IOC, but I’m biased because right now I’m stoned as a Bajeezus Belt with a 4-day weekend ahead.

On the other, she knew the rules and to test positive this close to the Olympics is dumb when you know the rules.

Sucks for her. All that training and hard work just went up in smoke.
 
This is quickly turning into a shit show. Japan only has 15% of it's people vaccinated, and Colvid cases are on the rise. Now they're saying there may not be any fan's allowed. The Olympics are supposed to be a celebration of people and competition coming together as one. Are we looking at Bubble 2. It was fine for the NBA. But this is the World. Very risky. And without a full stadium, excited by all the pomp and circumstance, Meh. Come on Japan, get your shit together.

It's all BS. This is just a trick by the Japanese so they can enter Godzilla in all the track and field competitions.

Well given that the entire world will fly people to one location on a small island and then send them home again during a pandemic...what could possibly go wrong?

Unfortunately we are pretty much either going to be at the arena in the studio, or in our hotel right across the train tracks. Sucks, was really wanting to see the country.

It's beautiful in places like Kyoto or Hokkaido (the North island) but I'm sure the authorities want to spare their children the trauma of seeing the HCP trying to eat a burger with chopsticks

My reason behind it is I, for one, it was kind of a last moment, I didn’t want to put anything in my body that I didn’t know how I would potentially react to. As an athlete on the elite level, everything we do is very calculated. For me in the training cycle, especially leading up to trials, I didn’t want to risk any days out, because we do know that there are periods where, getting the vaccine, you have to deal with some days off.

But as far as that goes, USA Swimming and all of us here have been through a very strict protocol with lots of testing, masks, socially distant, obviously staying away from the crowds, everything like that. And going into Tokyo, the same thing, with testing every day. So we feel very safe and protected, knowing that we’re minimizing risk as much as possible
