Game Thread 2023-24 GAME #4 - BLAZERS @ RAPTORS - MONDAY - OCTOBER 30, 2023 - 4:30 PM PST - ROOT

Scoot has the tools, he is just super young and plays a hard position without the ability to play behind better players like shae could last year.

It will take time, but he is going to be fine, IMHO

Our best starting 5 right now without injuries would be Simons/Sharpe/Camara/Ayton/Williams.

2 boards in 16 minutes is not very good for a PF.

He's actually fighting for boards. He's not a good rebounder, never has been, so expecting him to be a good one at this point is asking yourself to be dissapointed.

if Ish Wainwright was healthy, the Blazers would be 3-0

Well after all these years making fun of westbrooks shooting we got a Pg even worse smh

if you disregard 3-pointers, scoot is 4/5, better showing from him tonight

hopefully he takes more mid range shots and more slashing to the basket

Scoot obviously still has a lot of problems but I feel that least he is showing promise this game. I want to see those assist numbers way up though

Bro Scoot has the worst feel/awareness I've seen from a top pick in a while. I dont know how else to describe it!!

So many weird boneheaded passes/turnovers/shots. I get he's young, but shouldn't there be a baseline transferrable skillset?
He's clearly over thinking things. For a stretch there he relaxed, got aggressive and made things happen. Give him time.

Yeah scoot will be in the gym working on those 3s but right now it's painful to watch. Hopefully he's shooting 10 k a day practicing.

I'm not sure what the league average is for rebounds at the PF spot, but I would be astonished if Grant wasn't at least one full rebound below it, and likely 2+.

Scoot looking better this game. Still wish he could find a way to penetrate more. I dont think his handles are where they need to be. I'm trying to understand why he's having trouble getting past the first man in ISO situations. He should be able to blow by the first defender majority of the time with his athleticism...but he hasnt consistently so far. So is it his handles? Or figuring out angles at this level? It would lead to more open kick outs.

He has to be several below it.

Confidence.

I've been saying it all offseason, this Grant at PF thing doesn't work. But did Cronin listen to me? Nooooooughohoohhooh.

The 3 pt shot has changed rebounding from taking it off the glass to getting it 15 ft from the rim. Long rebounds go to guards usually. Ayton has worked the glass well

They're going under screens and sucking in on the wings. He cannot penetrate with 4 guys in the paint.

I think he's not used to NBA level defense yet and so he's lazy with his dribbling and doesn't protect it enough. He seems shocked at guys like Schroeder's speed and reach. However, this game I finally see Star potential in Scoot. There are flashes where he's unbelievably fast and that Eurostep finger roll was elite skill level. He is clearly overwhelmed by the speed, the narrowness of passing lanes, and is overthinking stuff. I have a feeling Billups is in his ear with utterly trash advice/commands.
