I like that several times in interviews DA said he's learning from Clingan and Williams still. I like having center depth that we have...Ayton is the last vet I'd trade...Simons or Thybulle would be my top two vets to trade as we stand. Bigs are rarely iron men who play 82 games not including playoffs. I love that we are stacked at every position, just want to see Ant replaced with Banton for the future.

Even worse, Duop is only a 3rd stringer based on last year's breakout performances. This year, he's a woefully bad shooter, and that is his primary area of contribution. An undersized center who hustles and can't do much else doesn't have a place in the league.

Come to think of it, maybe he and Deni don't get along, considering where they're from, and that's got them both in a shooting slump.
Would love to get another young big as part of the return for any of our 3 expendable vets. Not necessarily anyone with huge upside--just another big, 7-foot-ish body to spell Clingan when Willams is either injured or dealt.

He lived in Sudan for 9 years before moving to Australia.

Still puzzled:

South Sudan:
Christians make up 60.5% of the population, while followers of indigenous (animist) religions make up 32.9% and Muslims, 6.2%.

Oh, not trying to support the suggestion in Handiman's post--just providing additional information.

Let's recap the Ayton trade:

Camara-

I feel like we won this trade pretty handily :dunno:

yes in hindsight it was a great trade because Camara turned out to be a starter level player. But let’s not pretend they didn’t target Ayton in that deal. The suns had to include someone and props to Joe for making them throw in Camara instead of another minimum deal.

it feels like people giving credit for Olshey picking up Nurk, when we know he was targeting the 1st and Nurk was a throw in.

I did not realize that Australia and Israel had issues with one another.

He lived in Sudan for 9 years before moving to Australia.

Bingo.

Still puzzled:

South Sudan:

The Muslim influence is a lot stronger than that, from what I've been told, and there's significant resentment of Israel-Gaza and the West for supporting them. That's getting into off-topic talk, though. Just raising the possibility that two guys struggling tremendously with their shots could be having trouble finding common ground.

Still think going against mobile bags will be a problem. He's been blown by a few times already this season. But his rim protection is elite. I just hope he won't get played off the floor by certain teams.

Think they will put a wing on the mobile big and stick Clingan on a non-shooter or someone that sits in the corner so he can just patrol the paint. It's what the Jazz did with Gobert. I think the Blazers did that with Nurk as well and put Grant on AD.

But yeah, against some teams like the Celtics, Warriors or Thunder (when they go small) you won't be able to do that. But this team is far away from competing for a title so one step at a time. Portland is shaping up to be quite the wing factory as well so we may be well equipped to go small at that point as well.

Deni actually mentioned in his postgame that he was dealing with some personal issues this off-season. Probably related to Israel.

I doubt it has anything to do with Duop though.

Not to add that it is rewriting history. DA's big salary was needed to move Dame's big salary.

that's not accurate

Dame --> Milwaukee
Jrue --> Boston
Brogdon + Timelord + Allen --> Portland would have been a legal trade

the trade didn't need Ayton's big salary to be legal

Ayton is still better than anyone we gave them, and I still maintain, what else could we have gotten for that steaming pile of shit? Nurk was gone either way.

I'd be happy to see Ayton gone but the trade to PHX IMO was a win, we got rid of a worse Nurk (same contract length) and also Nas Littles contract as well (a bad one as well) - believe that totals around 25 mil per, Ayton makes more but he's gone after next year. IMO what makes the trade a fairly good one is we got Camara in it, a win as far as I am concerned

sure, Camara was the prize out of this. I just dislike Ayton's C game

but it is revision to say the Blazers needed to take back Ayton's salary to make the Dame trade legal

It was a Little trade that we can Klingonto. A(in)yton the bandwagon of dissing the moves. Toomani people are rewriting history.

reportedly, the Blazers F.O. spent a couple of years coveting Ayton before they landed him in the Dame trade. It was a really stupid desire on the part of Cronim/Schmitz but it was a mission they chose with apparent enthusisam

Billups has to be aware of that. Maybe that will motivate him to go back to the giving Ayton 2-3 times the minutes as Clingan. But since it's pretty clear he won't be the HC next season, maybe Billups won't be so pro-Ayton in his rotations.

seems kind of obvious that of the 3 C's: Ayton/Clingan/Timelord, Ayton is the 3rd best and 3rd most impactful. Adding him to the team was a delusional mistake by the F.O.

Hello,

May i ask why it seems pretty clear Chauncey will not be back next year?

If it is a gut feeling, would that feeling change if we start to see the team play more consistently like last night?

So should we let every 20 year old PG that makes mistakes play big minutes?
WHen the talent level on your team is 23 wins level and you don’t mind losing to set up your franchise for the future, yes! MOST DEFINITELY!

maybe "pretty clear" was overstating the situation. Billups was a HC eligible for an extension and this is the last year of his deal; but the GM didn't give him. Those aren't usually the circumstances leading to a new contract

Of course it would because Milwaukee would not have done that trade knowing that Jrue would go to their conference rival.

Ahh, that makes sense. Do you think they would give him one if the Cronin/ownership see improvements in the young players on the team?

I can, never felt like the Dame teams had the legs to maybe challenge for a championship down the line. The early Dame / LMA team was exciting but it was not clear how it would work with a young stud and an aging star, after that breakup these Dame teams were mostly questionable even as fans for future growth, CJ was Dame-light so it was clear there was duplication there, there was, for a minute there some excitement about the team with Nurk fever but that went away quickly when they tried to force feed Nurk and it was clear he was not that dude, later he broke his leg and while the team, through lucky matchups, crazy Dame performance in the first round and crazy CJ performance in the 2nd round made it to the WCF, they were exposed by the Warriors.

With this team, a couple of young complimentary high-upside players (Sharpe, DC and maybe Scoot) and the chance of another one in the upcoming draft... there is something there, especially when the FO has understood what NeO never did, you need size in this league, you need big bodies that can handle and create in this league. The Blazers can now have Sharpe, Deni - bigger bodies that can be playmakers, in addition to a good passing big which is also a great defensive anchor in DC and role players that can score and handle some TC, DB. There is certainly something brewing here.
We’ll see how this is in 10 years then. Because that’s what you’re doing….looking back on history. There was the same exact vibe during Dame’s prime. “Just need one or two new pieces and we’re there”.

I only get excited watching Scoot and Shae, but nowhere near to the level of Dame and CJ……. YET! Get me back in the playoffs for 8 straight seasons or whatever it was and they’ll we’ll talk FAMS!

”HUGE STARTING LEVEL ROLE”

You are gonna’ Have to tell me what this even means on THIS team, THIS season.

You get to steer the John Deer, but you don't need to pull the cord to start it.

There is nothing to wait for, this is a discussion about excitement because of potential. It is true for now, for some of us.

Billups was an Olhey hire. I suspect Cronin might want to hire his own HC

I thought he was in a refugee camp before going to Australia? Sudan has had tribal war for a long time, especially South Sudan. I don't think Duop has any issue with Deni and I don't know why that is a topic at all ...across the board this is known to be a supportive locker room.

We have a couple Red Sox and Yankee fans on the roster that have beef…and THAT IS IT!

So you are trying to tell me that the players that understand that Baseball is not a real sport and is a waste of anyone's time are OK with these people?
