Should we match Brooklyn's offer sheet for Allen Crabbe?

Danny Green is a good comp for Crabbe. Green is making $10 million per year under the old cap.

Crabbe's contract should have been around $13 million.

Let's assume we match on Crabbe and then half-beat later somebody throws a monster deal at Harkless. Should we match that too? We could be flirting with 100 million a year locked up in Damian, Crabbe, Turner, CJ, and Mo

I'd have been perfectly OK with that. 17+ million (more really if you count the trade kicker) is too rich for my blood if I'm Olshey. A wing who doesn't generate assists, plays just OK on defense and just shoots three pointers can be found to replace him.

Crabbe is basically the SG version of Meyers...except that Meyers passes really well for his position, sets larger screens, and rebounds fairly well. Given the fact we have Dame/CJ/Turner who can all play SG it's a pretty easy decision, IMO, as to which player we keep.

I can't wait till this is resolved and we get to go through this knashing of teeth again with some of you who cannot seem to understand we're in a different financial universe NOW!! This is the new price for players!!

I don't think we can. Because even if we intended on trading one, you still have to bring back similar contracts. I doubt we would find a team who wants to use up their cap space next year and absorb one of those two players. Not with another big free agency crop coming in. So again No, we have to choose between Crabbe and Harkless, because we can't afford both.

I also agree on your assessment of Crabbe. He can be replaced. Maybe not immediately, but soon enough.

This is the new price for players who are one of the top 3 players on your team. With the Turner signing, Crabbe doesn't fit that bill.

It's funny, but I really could see the Nets throwing the same deal at Harkless if we match on Crabbe.

You think we don't know that? The question is how many guys making that kind of money can one team have before getting drilled by the penalties associated with repeat offender luxury tax violations? Can you afford to use one of those slots on a guy who is your 6th or 7th man? Is it wise to use it on a guy that may be hard to trade with that salary plus a trade kicker? Are there other players on the roster who fill most of what you'd be losing if you let him walk? Are there other players that you still need to re-sign that may be more important to the team in the long run? Those are all questions that a competent GM has to consider in today's NBA financial universe NOW!!!

So, mclemore is on the block, what would it take to get him?
Mentioned his name last night on the podcast. He's actually who I would target right now if I'm Olshey. If you can secure McLemore from the Kings before the weekend, pass on Crabbe. If not, match and look to move his contract down the line.

But what would it take? Would they take vonleh? Dont really want to give anything else up.

I wouldn't give up anything of real value for Ben, certainly not Noah. I mean, they are the Kings, so they have a track record for making silly decisions. I'd see if they'd be interested in a guy like Connaughton and multiple 2nd round picks ... *maybe* a heavily protected 1st (Top 25, which turns into 2nd round picks if not delivered) ... he is a RFA next offseason, so we could be looking at a similar situation if he has a nice year like Crabbe and Harkless did this year.

I wouldn't go for McLemore.

He's a free agent after this season, so you're looking at potentially another Allen Crabbe situation, and we're pretty set at the guard positions if you spread out the minutes between Dame/CJ/Turner.

We have summer league games today and tomorrow, right? Is it crazy to think that how Montero and Connaughton perform in those games could actually have an impact on whether or not we match Crabbe's offer sheet?

I thought it was Saturday and Sunday......and the Sunday game starts at 7PM. What time Sunday do we have to decide?

Someone get @jlprk on the summer league game thread.

I don't know if you're set if you plan to play Turner @ b/u PG also. (maybe w/Harkless playing strictly 3 we'd be fine, idk)

When do we expect to hear whether this is matched or not? I voted match, just because I'm not sure what else to do with the money (as others have pointed out), but we are in a huge logjam if we match, so I am definitely torn.

It's a waiting game with the 3 restricted free agents. I expect one of them to be gone..probably Crabbe

You're right, sorry.

I believe we basically have until midnight on Sunday to match. Perhaps midnight eastern time though.

Connaughton will be that guy
Riverman, we agree on something lol. Im on the patty c bandwagon too. I was impressed with how the organization has high hopes and faith in him. They obviously see something the majority of the rest of us have not

whats crystal clear is you were talking shit... whatever dude

STOMP

Just because you don't agree with my reasoning doesn't mean I am talking shit. You don't share my point of view, that's fine. You weren't the one I was asking to bet anyway. Everything is moot anyways because the Blazers will match making all of this irrelevant.

He plays full out even in garbage time...the dude has a motor and is athletic..I think he makes a leap this season..great work ethic...really high IQ for sports..pitchers are gifted at painting the corners with the ball...he'll probably be the entry pass guy
