how about suggestions on ways the money needed for the wall's construction in areas where its' effectiveness are somewhat dubious might be invested in an infrastructure for those regions' border security? the goals are curtail/eliminate illegal immigration and smuggling while also leading to an increased probability in the apprehension of those whose sole intent is attacking our country.

That's just it as there are many better ways that money can go to use. There is enough in the military budget to put some towards securing the "boarder".

What we're doing now isn't working ...INS has a backlog of over 50,000 cases on the table unprocessed...we need to address that. expedite the process. It's not like we lack lawyers in this country to deal with them.

I think this administration has a lot to do with the length of time it takes to process asylum seekers. They are making it as difficult as possible for those truly seeking asylum which isn't what this country was built on.

Whats that Lanny?
Building code which the Fire Department accepts. That code is enforced by the building department during construction and enforced by the Fire Department after the first occupancy.
It used be known as the Uniform Building Code (UBC) back in the day. Now, it's got a new name. I think the Fire Department calls it the Uniform Fire Prevention and Building Code. As a professional engineer briefly working on commercial construction I had to be somewhat familiar with all of that along with my professional ethics.

You owe me! You guys were agreeing so well, I thought is best to leave it be.
i hope that you will bring ideas for areas of compromise from your own perspective. disagreement won't stop the process, but please offer your reasons so that an understanding for those reasons can be enjoined. i certainly don't see all sides without others' input. how do you feel about the work visa process and how the numbers affect employment and wages here in the US? how about its reflection on the immigration process and the process as a whole. ideas for streamlining? i saw this morning another news article about speaker ryan championing the inclusion of the 5,000 Irish work visas for inclusion in the year end legislative schedule. it is the focus of the original linked article of my first post about how the work visa program affects wages and jobs. was a thought provoking read over at brietbart news service for me..https://www.independent.co.uk/news/...lash-republican-blocking-senate-a8685381.html

The thread is worthless because it uses the same debunked source of fake news that spews lies. Breitbart needs to go the way of its namesake.

Immigrants aren't taking taking your jobs....

They're doing the jobs you and I won't do...

i am curious if you bothered to read it as it is about irish immigrants filling college degree required positions and artificially depressing the wages of white collar jobs, certainly nothing about farm labor or blue collar jobs. it is more about the economic impacts of dollars leaving here both as the workers return home and the reciprocity agreement of allowing more dollars to leave in expatriating retirees to ireland. not taking jobs but taking less in pay.

It's a Breitbart article. Who the hell with any intelligence is going to read Breitbart? Not me and apparently not dviss.

Why would I read anything from the the site that lied about the Shirley Sherrod situation? They're pretty famous for doctoring video...They proved not only to be fake news, but racist fake news. They attacked ACORN because they were a BLACK organization that was registering black voters.

Read up and stop posting Brietbart like it's actual news...

Sherrod Hoax Exposed, but Breitbart’s ACORN Fraud Lives On

Reporting on Andrew Breitbart’s latest bit of deceit–using a selectively edited video to paint a low-level USDA official Shirley Sherrod as a racist–has given the media a chance to resurrect one of their favorite myths: Breitbart’s triumphant takedown of the community-organizing group ACORN.

In September 2009, Breitbart’s website BigGovernment.com posted videos, made by conservative activists Hannah Giles and James O’Keefe, supposedly showing ACORN employees counseling the pair–ostensibly pretending to be a prostitute and a pimp–on how to avoid paying taxes and other illegal activities. The videos were later found to be completely misleading. Among other things, it was revealed that O’Keefe never dressed as a pimp in ACORN’s offices, and in many cases he pretended to be Giles concerned boyfriend protecting her from abuse.

In covering the Shirley Sherrod story, many outlets have mentioned the videos–not as an example of Breitbart’s established incredibility, but rather as a vindication of his heroic muckraking track record.

Answering for viewers the question, “Just who is Andrew Breitbart?,” CNN American Morninganchors Kiran Chetry and John Roberts (7/21/10) said Breitbart “built a brand around his ‘big’ websites, and that includes BigGovernment.com, the site that first posted the video of Sherrod. There is also BigHollywood.com, BigJournalism.com, BigPeace.com.” Roberts then reminded viewers that BigGovernment.com “was also the first site to post those undercover ACORN videos featuring the pimp and prostitute.”

In their initial report on the Sherrod story, AP‘s Ben Evans and Mary Clare Jalonick (7/20/10) applauded BigGovernment.com as the site that “gained fame after releasing video of workers for the community organizing group ACORN counseling actors posing as a pimp and prostitute.” Later versions of the story were changed to read “prostitute and her boyfriend.” However, in a more recent article (7/21/10), Evans and Jalonick reverted to the less accurate “prostitute and her pimp.”

Slate (7/22/10) even saw Breitbart’s latest smear as reason to “recycle” Christopher Beam’s fawning profile of Breitbart, where he praises him as the one who posted “the now-famous videos that showed two young conservatives, James O’Keefe and Hannah Giles, entering several offices of the Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now, better known as ACORN, posing as a pimp and a prostitute looking to open a brothel for underage, illegal immigrant girls.” This statement is made even stranger by the fact that, much further down in the profile, Beam quietly relents that O’Keefe was actually wearing “business casual” clothing. Beam also repeats the lie that Giles and O’Keefe “had been instructed to, among other things, bury their sex money in a tin in their back yard.”

Again, O’Keefe never wore his ludicrous “pimp” out fit in the ACORN offices. Most times he was asking employees how to protect his girlfriend from an abusive pimp. The “tin in the backyard” suggestion was in response to a question from Giles on how to hide her money from the same fictitious pimp. Also, it is now clear the videos were heavily edited to make employees appear to be answering questions in more sinister ways. In fact, Juan Carlos Vera, a San Diego ACORN employee who was fired as a result of the videos, was found to have called his cousin, a police detective, after the pair left to report their activities. Furthermore, ACORN has now been cleared of any criminal wrongdoing by three separate independent investigations.

All of this has been noted numerous times by FAIR (Action Alert, 3/11/10) and others (Brad Blog, 3/3/10). But considering the pervasiveness of this myth within the corporate media, it apparently needs to be pointed out again.

the posts have been about finding common ground for comprehensive immigration reform. the article simply added another reason for it. if this is of no interest to you, great, dismiss it and move on. i was extremely surprised at the articles content. the author actually called out the administration and congress on the subject and drew conclusions how visa process is contributing to the inequality of wealth on wall street and funneling it to the older generation that it most benefits in comparison to and at the cost of wages of young college grads with high education debt burden.

is an opinion piece not news.

Would you, while seeking asylum or a better life for your family, cross a border of a country where there are armed guardsmen patrolling the border, if there wasn't a guaranteed way to make money in said country?

Republicans have NEVER been on board with holding corporations accountable for.....

Hell, for what do they EVER want to hold corporations accountable??

Taxes?
Environmental protection?
Buying our politicians?

NOPE.

i will leave you with an old chinese proverb to ponder then: even a blind pig finds an acorn once in a while.
Don't have any idea how that applies to a source that has zero accolades for journalistic excellence.

Why not go with a credible source that is recognized as having some sort of credibility? If you can't find one to back up the assertion perhaps that ought to tell one something about the validity of the assertion.

i did , i linked to the independent article about ryan trying to add irish work visas.

They've got an assertion why not back it up with something credible. I don't have the time or the energy to run down every assertion by every source that has no reputation for being credible.

Let's stick to credible sources so I don't wind up wasting my time and energy on probable bull crap.

Even more reason not to waste my time reading that Breitbart crap.

I'm sure there are some false assertions in it. I'm good.
can't be sure if yours is only an opinion, without reading. i go to breitbart to see what they say , what they think their base is interested in. if you have followed my posting history, you will notice a definite left lean. i have called out others often and have been sure to base those callouts on facts. if i state an opposing opinion i try to include sources that are not going to be dismissed simply because of where it comes from.

So you don't know about them lying to get Sherry Sherrod fired?

Go read up.

if you wish to channel your rage over the injustice of ms. sherrod, feel free to go start another that it is the subject of.

This answer proves the people that believe Trump's news sources don't give a fuck about the truth.
the truth is that this thread's discussion has been about where there are areas that might be brought to the table to discuss immigration reform.

Only that it's not. The whole premise of this fake discussion is to give credence to an opinion piece from a fake news source. Lots of the posts in this thread treat it like it's fact.

Fuck.

That.

sorry if the title leads you to that conclusion, but it is not an attempt on my part at all, but an attempt to open up back and forth, left and right, republican an democrat etc. etc.
i found the conclusions to not be completely evidence backed., if you read my entire first post you would have seen this stated.. just the part about how cooperations use work visas to artificially depress white collar wages of entry level and less experienced american college grads.

try the linked article on for size before dismissing the conclusions i thought the breitbart author had made a case for. i chose breitbart because i wanted to engage right leaning members on immigration reform. the WSJ also has articles drawing the same conclusions. Forbes too. plenty out there if you would like to do more of your own heavy lifting.
