wow....with Kawhi's signature I suppose?

biggest nba scandal since Tim Donaghy?
How often do you think it happens? I wonder how many players get some kind of perk that doesn't get counted into the salary cap?

perks...sure

but the NBA has always been front and center in prohibiting NBA owners from giving players under-the-table income that directly circumvents the cap, tax, and apron rules. On first glance, this situation seems pretty damn blatant

Next thought that comes to mind. Who do you punish? The Player or the owner or do you punish the whole team? This could get sticky.

yeah, the precedent is losing years of picks and the Clippers have traded away their picks in 2026, 2027, 2028, 2029. Now, some of those traded picks are swaps, but the League would be punishing other teams is they voided the swaps. So that won't happen

The Clippers might lose a lot of 1st round picks from 2030 and beyond though

Ballmer? They won't kick him out as an owner, especially not after he just spent over 2B on the new Clipper's state of the art arena. He might have to watch games from a suite and have no direct contact for a while

the NBA may be under pressure to get a completed investigation. For sure one of the penalties could be voiding Kawhi's contract, cancelling Bird Rights, and not allowing him to re-sign with LAC. But he only has 2 years left on his current contract. If the NBA can't complete an investigation before the season starts, then there would only be one year of Kawhi's deal to cancel, although it would be a 50M cancellation

seems like it should be a pretty straight-forward investigation. But I guess it will take months

You allow the swaps to happen and take away the picks LAC would get in return.

if all true....probably everybody. Ballmer would get fined and probably prohibited from being courtside for a couple of season. The Clippers would get a massive fine and lose some draft picks. Kahwi would have his contract balance voided and lose Bird Rights

this is really Silver's first big test as an NBA commissioner. Of course, he might fail and everybody get their wrists slapped

that would unfairly benefit teams who were supposed to trade their own picks into the swap....unless the league just cancelled the pick

for example, in 2029, the Clippers are supposed to swap with Philly, at Philly's discretion. If the Clipper pick conveys to Philly, then the Philly pick could just be cancelled. The earlier swaps the Clips are involved in are more complicated but I suppose there's a way to cancel whatever pick the Clips are getting

Naughty boys! Don’t you do that again. Slap!
He will two finger the wrists.

It doesn't unfairly benefit anyone. The other teams involved will get their pick or the swap pursuant to the agreed deal and deciding outcomes.

Yes, some of the deals are more complicated, but they will play out. The teams involved will be rewarded their pick or whatever swapped pick is in it's place based on the rules of the deal in place. LAC simply won't get the pick they would end up with afterwards.

I was surprised when I asked AI about SportsTwo that it didn't tell me to stop wasting my time with those loonies.

Here's it's summary of me -

A dedicated, long-time Portland Trail Blazers fan who attends games regularly (including as a season ticket holder) and offers balanced, realistic takes. They celebrate iconic moments and players like Damian Lillard, praise strong management decisions (e.g., trades involving Deni Avdija and Toumani Camara), and aren’t afraid to be critical of underperformers like Scoot Henderson, emphasizing efficiency and development over hype. Overall, they seem like a no-nonsense veteran fan focused on winning and team improvement rather than blind optimism.

Way off. It forgot "Immature, argumentative and overall has no clue what he is talking about."

I went to the youtube video about the alleged Ballmer/Kawhi/tree-planting scandal. It was 85 minutes long and 10 minutes in there were no details or salient facts....I gave up.

on the face of it, there sure appears to be some kind of violation(s). But I'll reserve judgement until there's an actual article I can read from a reputable source
What’s an article? It’s all over social media and Pablo broke the news on a podcast.

The rest of the owners should come down hard on this. If they allow this to stand, the uber wealthy ownership groups can always just outbid them. It makes the salary cap completely irrelevant.

Losing picks that they have already traded though.... I think this deserves a very serious punishment. Could they kick out Balmer?
They’d lose the picks they haven’t traded. Their next FRP would be in 2033.

Huh? He was tested big by Donald Sterling and Covid! Also BLM. Remember the courts in the bubble?
