I know people who have lawyered up and got out of contracts. It happens all the time.

Yeah. Exactly. They had to pay one way or another.

People have to choose how far to take the battle. Sometimes it's cheaper to let someone out of a contract than to battle in court.

I agree, but you have to assume if they trade Irving, for Melo. That Love will be traded.
LBJ+Melo+Love all generally are best when played at the 4.
But still they wouldn't have a legit PG which is probably the most important position in today's league.

If NYK can get Kyrie, would Melo still want out?

I wonder how Lebron feels about this. On the surface you'd assume this means lebron is gone, but what if he doesn't like playing with Kyrie for whatever reason?

If CLE really is in discussions with the Knicks for 'Melo, Gilbert has to know this is a one year thing and then LeBron will be gone again. If Olshey is going to offer a 'rental package' for 'Melo, why not for LeBron? They will both be gone by next summer but it accomplishes the same thing, just to a greater degree. The thing is, Gilbert would have to realize this is what is going to happen and be willing to participate instead of having James leave again for nothing.

As for the pitch, it would be as good a way as any for LeBron to avenge losses to the Warriors by combining him with Dame, CJ and Nurkic. That is a younger core than he has in CLE and more balanced as well. After a year he most likely goes to LA but for that one year, it is the most interesting story in the NBA.

Because at least 10 other teams would make better offers than Portland could (assuming they don't trade CJ). And, James has been very clear his entire career that he is either playing at home or for a big market.

If he wanted to try and win a title and show his dominance, then I think Portland would be great. But, I don't think that is really all the motivates him.

True, who though? Kyrie is pretty high up on the list of top pgs in the league imo.

Yeah Irving although not a top 5 pg in the league. Isn't a scrub.

Not sure if Detroit has anything to offer the Cavs.

Some can't be traded right away.. And some might not be good fits with LBJ.
Jackson, Hill, Dragic, Payton, Lowry. Are all on these I think would happily trade for Love.
To me though, mostlikely would be going into the season with Williams. Maybe picking up Nelson for min.

Please name 5 PG's better than Kyrie.

Ummmwhy would the cavs settle for Melo? Yes they'd be settling. They can get much better offers. Even if he comes with Ntikilina and a pick.

Westbrook
Curry
Paul
Dame
Lowry
Wall
Harden (if you count him as a PG)

As controversial as it will be to say this on a Blazer forum, Dame, Lowry and Wall are all questionable as to if they are better than Kyrie.

I remember during the draft hearing about the Cle/Phx trade.

The deal they had in place:

To Cleveland:
Eric Bledsoe
#4 pick

To PHX:
Kyrie Irving

Dame
CJ
Carmelo
Love
Nurk

Turner
Crabbe
Layman
Biggie
Collins

Man....
MAKE
IT
HAPPEN!!!!!!

In terms of scoring, Dame and Kyrie are pretty similar, so it comes down to personality and I'd take Dame over Kyrie any day.

Wall is more of a distributor. I think he had a better season than Irving last year.

I'm not really a fan of Lowry, honestly...

Congrats to the Tpups for having someone actually wanting to go there.

Congrats to the Celtics for making it to the finals in '18.

Yeah, I'd agree that Curry, Paul, Harden and Westbrook are the only ones clear-cut above Irving. After that, Irving is in a tier with Wall, Lillard, Conley and (regular season) Lowry. Antetokounmpo could be in this conversation too--he's basically playing the point guard position and, if you count him, would be ahead of the Wall/Lillard/Irving tier.

Lowry - too feast or famine - especially in the playoffs. Kyrie for the win.

Wall - I'd take him over Kyrie for his defense, passing and leadership. Kyrie is a better scorer. Wall is significantly better at pretty much everything else.

Dame - Yeah, I'm a homer, but Dame has the better stats (higher scoring, more assists, higher PER, better TS%, etc.) over the last three years, is a better leader and the clincher for me is Dame is much more durable. Even if you don't include his first season, when Kyrie missed 31 games, he's missed 80 games in the last five years. In that same span, Dame has missed a total of 14 games. Dame has also improved every year he's been in the league. Kyrie has been up and down, but really isn't much better now than he was a rookie. That probably has something to do with all of his injuries.

I think MIL should go after him. They need a legit PG (I think Brogdon is more of a SG). They have so much young talent, they just need that 2nd star next to Giannis, and PG is where the hole is.
They could package Jabari Parker, Malcolm Brogdon, John Henson, and Matthew Delevedova for Channing Frye and Kyrie Irving.
This trade would give Milwaukee a lineup of Irving/Middleton/Snell/Antetokounmpo/Monroe. That could compete for a Finals spot. What this trade would also do for MIL is it would give them with apx. $20M in cap space next summer. They'd simply have to trade away Teletovic (who will have 1 year, $10M remaining) to get around max cap space. The guy they would go after is Cousins, pairing him with Giannis, Kyrie, Middleton, Snell, Maker, Wilson, and others. While trading away Parker would be a risk, he's been injury prone which makes it easier to send him out. The rest of the trade is dumping the long term, bad contracts of Henson and Delevedova while upgrading their starting PG (Brogdon to Kyrie).

As far as CLE, with Jabari being a PF, I think they'd swap Love for Melo and KOQ to start a lineup of
Lebron/Brogdon/Melo/Parker/Thompson
Delevedova/Smith/Korver/O'Quinn/Henson
This team would likely still be the favorites in the east, while being better set up to rebuild should Lebron leave (Brogdon+Parker is a good start). They would never be able to get under the cap with Lebron, and wouldn't be able to sign anyone without him, so adding those contracts doesn't hurt them.
