Meh. We traded one mentally weak player for another, but got more talent and a better fit at the position. We also got Camara. I'm fine with the deal.

I don't know that the 'more talent and better fit' declaration is accurate. The better talent and fit sure hasn't manifested yet. Camara changes the equation quite a bit, but he's a sometimes starter averaging 7 and 5. I expect him to improve quite a bit though

when I read that the Blazers were going after Ayton I was really hoping they'd work a deal moving Ayton to the team that wanted him, Indy. An Ayton for Myles turner swap. It was fantasy I know but I sure didn't want Ayton and his salary on the team

I like the Duop Reath story. But is he really a better player than Ayton?

that's probably significantly skewed to Ayton's disadvantage as this is clearly his worst season in the NBA. But it's also possible that Ayton was in a nearly perfect situation in Phoenix and this season predicts his future better than his Phoenix years.

I knew people would complain about Ayton.

I repeatedly keep mention it was strange people were bashing Nurk for the same reason Suns fans were bashing Ayton before he got here.

Just goes to show you, lots of people in here only looked at Ayton on the surface. The numbers. Didn’t look deep into his mentality, why he was called out in the playoffs for not hustling and getting back into a play.

He doesn’t take criticism well at all and that comment is not a good look man.

neither cronin nor billups did anything to temper those expectations.
"We'd like to introduce our new starting center, DeAndre Ayton! But before I let DA speak, let's just be clear, he's not really all star caliber, he's probably the best center on our team though... probably... anyway, here's DeAndre!"

Ayton lives next door to one of my clients and I guarantee you that getting out of his neighborhood the ice in Vancouver would have been quite a challenge.
What part of Vancouver does he live in?

Interesting that he would live in Vancouver. If it is Camas, he was not the only one stuck. With the practice facility in Tualatin, I would guess most players would want to live there. We have no income tax but guess most of his income is taxed in Oregon.

Camas is where I live, we got wrecked with the ice.

Yes, most, but by living in Washington, any income earned in another non-income-tax state (Texas, Tennessee, or Florida) would also not be subject to Oregon tax. That's 8 games this season. By my estimation, he probably saves about 300K for this season just by living in Washington.

Seems to be a good teammate, goes out there game in and game out and tries. Runs hard to set picks, really allows the team to do more things on defense because he's agile enough to stay with guards after other teams try the pick and roll. You can blitz with him. You can trap with him. Generally, he's been a guy that finishes around the basket. His shooting range from side to side on the court opens up the floor on the offensive end.

Last night on one sequence he chased a loose ball into the backcourt and saved a possession for us in regulation. On the other end he blocks a shot and catches it and saves it while avoiding going out of bounds. And yet somehow his effort gets questioned? Not sure how or why. From what I see, the worst thing Ayton does is not play up to a massive contract. But he still averages a double-double, shoots a high percentage and does a number of things that don't show up in the boxscore. If he doesn't negate or outplay most other pivots head to head, he at least makes it harder for the post on the other team and diminishes our deficit at that position.

Ok, let's go over some numbers.
- Ayton is averaging 1.5 FTA per game. Which shows how incredibly soft he is. To put that into context, Joel Pryzbilla, a guy who never sniffed the ball on offense averaged about twice that many.
-Ayton's TS% is not good this year. 55.5%, which is especially not good for a lower usage, more opportunistic scorer. It's 6% under his career average.
-He's only shooting 67% from 0-3. A career low...this is as bad as Nurk

Only thing he really does well is rebound.

...whole town going under now?! :dunno:

my uncle had his home destroyed in the Philippines. Very nice waterfront home on the beach. people have no clue water is the most destructive force on earth. It will tear anything and everything down if Mother Nature so desires. Even steel rusts and is porous and can dissinigrate by water over time.
asphalt and dirt ain’t shit compared to running water.

Wait? Teams hacked Joel because he was a terrible FT shooter. If they hack Ayton he will torch them.

You're reaching for stupid excuses. Find a center that gets to the line as little as Ayton. Centers naturally draw fouls as part of the aspect of scoring inside.

Ayton is averaging 1.6 per 36. Kevin Duckworth averaged 4.5 per 36 for his career, and shot about the same FT% and took about the same number of FG attempts.

Ayton is soft.

I’d much rather watch him play like last night than listen to him talk about how he can play like last night.
I’m old school livin in a show me world when everyone else just talks shit. lol.
He's going to go back to the same old shit. Suns fans warned us of this.

That plus Joel had no jump shot. So all of his shots were right under the basket. Jump shooters get fouled less in general. Same with centers that have a decent jump hook. It seems to me that we often label skilled centers as being soft. I don't think Ayton is soft.

Yeah, jump shooting vs taking shots inside is a sign of being soft. That is a problem because those inside shots are the highest %, and also draw fouls.

Go look up what other centers average per 36 so you can get some bearing on how bad 1.5 FTA is. Whomever floats your boat. Nurk averaged 5.3 per 36.

Ayton is only taking a 28% of his shots from 0-3, which is really low for a center.

I don’t disagree Ayton plays (emphasis on PLAYS)soft at all.
Just think using Joel Pryzbilla as your example might not hold much weight.
