There's a huge problem from Morey's side and it's that they don't have a top shelf facilitator to initiate their offense without Ben or trading Ben for someone that can. So if they want to lose games with Seth bringing the ball up and initiating the offense or with Shake doing the same thing then they can try and call Ben's bluff but it's going to go badly for them. This is a team that will want the number one seed in the East again and every regular season win they can get. Every loss (if it comes to that) will give opposing GMs more and more leverage over Morey.

It just came out that the Cavs are making headway on an extension with Sexton and see him there long term. Unless DLo is coming over in a Minny deal that deal doesn't make the Sixers better and DLo is a worse fit than CJ. They really have limited options and the way the Sixers have handled this has been a complete clusterfuck.

that's the picture Rich Paul will try to portray, but I don't really see the merit. Ben does seem quite thin skinned. Embiid was commenting yesterday on how he wouldn't get offended if he were offered in trades for other stars. I think that was direct shot at Ben for getting all in his feelings about being put in trade offers. And that's justified.

The criticism and commentary among Philly fans/local media is nasty, but that comes with the territory. How much crap has CJ gotten here the past five years? Doesn't affect his mindset one bit.

Reading that KOC article about how Ben wants to be more of a focus on offense. On initial look, it seems ridiculous. Why would a guy with his lack of offensive skill deserve more touches?

But then you look at usage rates, he's not wrong. He's a PG who averages 8 assists per game with only 20% usage through his career! That's crazy. CJ is at 27% and only puts up 4 assists a game. Trying to find any other primary ball handlers with lower usage than him.. and i can't find any.

On the Sixers, this was their breakdown of usage last year:

Embiid - 35
Milton - 25
Harris - 24
Maxey - 23
Korkmaz - 20.5
Simmons - 20.2

That is insane!

Well, I mean zero compared to Simmons in Philly. Was he eviscerated for his stepping out of bounds? Not that I recall. That was the single worst, single play Blazers blunder since Drexler did one pass too many in the 1991 WCF to uncle Cliffy, or maybe that was 1990. He should have been roasted and nobody said anything, except how great his vineyards are and stuff. I've seen nothing but kid gloves from the media with CJ, they've gone harder after Dame for crying out loud.

Don't overlook the part of that article that says Simmons wants to go to a team where he is THE #1 guy. If that is true Simmons is A) delusional, because he isn't that good, and B) a horrible match with Dame.

If his next team has any sense he'll be playing the 4 and be their second scoring option and second ball handler. He would do amazing in that role. They'll also get him about 15 shot attempts in the restricted area. I think when you hear that he wants to be the number one option he just doesn't want to have to constantly feed a guy that dominates the paint like Embiid does so he has no ability to score. If he came here I would hope he would be our number one interior scoring option.

If Philly makes a bad trade, while it might give them more value than Simmons sitting out right now it will basically guarantee they can't contend for a title. Morey is a title or bust GM.

I think Morey would rather hold on to Ben with the idea his trade value could go up or another all star will be available.

Morey and Philly owners aren't emotional in the moment like the Cleveland, Minny, New Orleans owners. They will take a step back now, even for many months, to take a bigger step forward later if that looks like the better avenue to a title.

I agree with much of your reasons and overall I do expect Simmons to be dealt by the trade deadline.

The question was if Philly doesn't get quality offers would they be willing to do that crazy long wait instead of a bad trade? I think Morey would, he is a title or bust GM, and if a Simmons trade doesn't give them a better chance at a title I think they would wait, even past the trade deadline, even if it unthinkably went on an entire calendar year.

That seems very unlikely to happen though, as by the trade deadline there will be many more players available, signed free agents trade restrictions will all be lifted, and many teams that have given up on the year after losses or injuries, so I expect he will be traded by then.

But the people who are saying Morey is an idiot for waiting and Simmons value is going down every day and they will have to trade him for whatever they can get because they have no options are wrong IMO. The 6ers have options, they can wait, and I expect them to do so until they get a fair return that they think gets them closer to a title.

Morey referred to the Rogers situation so I do think there is a chance Simmons and Morey strike a deal where he comes back to improve his value and they will make an effort to trade him to a team in CA by the deadline. Rogers is probably gone after this year. Well, Dame is fully bought into Portland. He ain't leaving this year. So our continued hope should be for Dame to openly recommit even more vigorously to take himself out of any potential trade picture, while Rich Paul makes it uglier.

Agreed that it would be unlikely, but if Mitchell shows out in pre-season, I think he's an unusual rookie (already 24) and could be a bargain contract for several years that allows the team to take on another decent size contract and stay out of luxury tax this year.

You're right, we'd give up a fair amount of offense and be dependent on pick n roll, but we have three bigs that are competent in the short roll (Nurkic/Nance/Zeller) and would be hoping for offensive leaps from Powell and Ant. I think we would be in a better place for double teams. Still lots of shooting and Barnes/Mitchell can handle fine as well. CJ spaces the court but can't run an offense for shit.

I think that team basically has a clear #1 (Dame) and three #3 options (Powell/Barnes/Nurkic). The offense wouldn't be terrible, just not top 5 anymore. I think it could have a top 10 offense and top 5 defense.
