The Warriors and representatives for Monta Ellis are working cooperatively to see if a trade to a contending team can be arranged, a deal that would likely happen around the NBA draft later this month, a person with knowledge of the discussions told CBSSports.com.

"It’s pretty hot," the person familiar with the talks said.

The Trail Blazers, Lakers, Hawks, Bulls, and 76ers are among the teams expressing the most sincere interest, league sources said Thursday. A possible deal between Golden State and Philadelphia involving Ellis and Andre Iguodala is a "50-50" proposition at the moment, a person with knowledge of those talks said.

In before the "Berger is a hack and doesn't know what he's talking about" comments

It only makes sense that the Blazers would be interested. He pretty much fits what Nate wants, which is a player in his prime that can contribute now.

in before MM floods another thread with his tirade

damn lunch.. I'm too late ;)

The joke is you my good friend. There was no tirade. And it's not my fault people do that when they disagree with someone in the national media.

Monta is one of my favorite players to watch! He's the biggest gunner in the entire NBA, but oh well.

I would do it. It would take Batum, Miller and Rudy. But I like what's left. Yes Ellis would hurt LMA's game a little, (as he is not a true PG) but I like the end of the game lineup of Roy, Eliis, Wallace, LMA and Oden.

We need a PG who can score IMO opinion.

I posted this idea in another thread without any response. What do you think? Seems like it would be beneficial for all teams...

This option make Monta the PG and keep Miller as our veteran pg off the bench until his career is over.

Here's how it could work:

Portland sends Batum and Camby to Philly (Philly gets a good prospect who fits with their team and cap relief).

Philly sends Iggy to Golden State and Speights to Portland (GS gets who they want and we get a young C).

Golden State sends Monta Ellis to Portland (we get our scoring PGOTF).

Ellis averaged 5.6 apg. That's not horrible, and was probably aided by GS's offense.....but still.

As for Ellis being a chucker, his usage rate was just about where Brandon Roy's was 2 years ago......Within the offense

the tirade was referring to how it seems 80% of your posts start with "in before a link is asked for" no need to get so upset about it or hurt.

Not near enough to get Speights as well. Great trade for Portland though. I still think Augustin is someone to really go for. Aldridge and him are buddies, and I think it would only help LA's game

I am not upset or hurt, but for shits and giggles, I will stop that. If for no other reason than to see how often it happens when some "hack" posts possitive things about Portland, and not so possitive things. Sort of an experiment

Do what you want.. I can joke about it too then though right?
For the record I do like you, and I actually agree with probaby 65-70% of what you say, it just gets kinda old sifting through whats real and not when you have your agendas.

He averaged 5.5 dimes in that fast paced up tempo offense. Most of them were to Curry leaking out on fast breaks. I love him, but I could only imagine what this place would be like if our PG was launching 20+ shots a game!!!

especially with only 84 or so posessions.

I like to keep people on their toes here in this forum. As you know, I am much different in the Ducks forum. There are probably 2-3 people in this forum that know how I truly feel about the Blazers, management and Nate

He's not a PG. I'd much rather Larry & Co. to pursue a real PG.

 carry on

LOL, Like our offensive Pace even has 20 shots a game to give

He seems to me like Bayless on steroids, so I think that would be a good thing. I also wonder if he could be a product of the warriors system in a bad way? Maybe our coach, one of the best young coaches in the league, would have him playing within the system we have here? Maybe he ends up being a guy who's PPG lower, but is still able to get a shot off, and keep us from the horrible drouts we seem to have....Not because of the system of course

No kidding. But even though OKC and Chicago did not make the finals, their PG's proved to be hard to defend. Having a PG that can attack the rim at will can't be bad. And we have no one else on the team that can do it. It wouldn't be every game. Nate likes to take advantage of match ups and against a lot of teams, that match up would work.

I have heard Mark Jackson raive about Andre Miller....... Do it.

The Blazers really need another person who can create their own shot now that Roy is defunct. Monta would give the Blazers that, but other problems would also stem from that. However, if by chance Oden does make it back onto the court in good condition, Monta might be a great choice to spread the floor, but also with Oden in there for offensive rebounds, Monta could jack it up a few too many times without it really hurting the Blazers.

I agree. Golden State Warrior fans on this forum constantly tell us that Ellis is not a PG.

I would love to have him though. He can be an elite scorer on the perimeter which is something we currently lack.

Monta Ellis could work out for Portland. He could play two-guard on offense, with Miller as point guard and then the two could switch on defense, with Ellis defending point guards and Miller defending opposing shooting guards.

Of course, if the idea is to replace Miller with Ellis, in the trade, that would be a titanic failure. Ellis and Matthews would be one of the worst distributing tandems in the history of ever.

I listened to an interview with Ben Golliver on John Lund's show and he said he thought this was a smokescreen coming out of Ellis' camp to try to drum up interest in him. I guess I have a hard time getting enthused about guys like Ellis who seem like they need volumes of shots in order to get their points and who vanish on defense. Meh.

This team needs a creator!!! We don't have one now that Roy is done.

Monta would give that to us and be paired nicely with a GREAT frontcourt (Oden, Aldridge, and Wallace). It functions well.

Don't get your panties in a wad that Monta is a PG or he's not; HE'S A GUARD. HE CREATES SHOTS. HE SCORES. HE DISHES. HE EVEN BOARDS SOME.

Somewhat true, but not as bad as Matthews and Roy.

http://www.basketball-reference.com/blog/?p=8827

We could have three of the top 20 worst distributors in the league.

The current Roy is a black hole, IMO, because he no longer has the consistent ability to break defenses down, which was always the trigger to set other people up. Now, he can only survive by getting the ball and shooting the moment he can find some space. But I wasn't even counting the current Roy as a factor, since he's a role-player in terms of production now.

So what you're saying is that Ellis is a "lead guard?"

Hes a SG. He can drive and dish or make an interior pass but hes a fuggin SG. If he were an inch or two taller he'd definitively be a SG.
