Okay, so Joel's salary is $7.405 million. Let's say a safe number of games he misses is 30. At 90K per game, he'll be paid $2.7k, and if insurance pays 80%, the total amount they save is $2167, thus Joel's actually salary would be $5.3 million.

Is it really that big of a deal maker? :/

Well we really have no idea how many games he'll miss, but when we're talking about sending out say about 21 million in contracts to take back about 26 (Paul and Okafor) and the real dollar value of those commitments drops to 19 or 18 million in real costs then it becomes pretty attractive.

Edit: I'm also certain Paul Allen would send along the 3 million in cash allowed by the league (as would the Knicks, Magic and Mavs).

It becomes more attractive sure, but how much more attractive is the question. I guess we don't really know.

You're aware of just how cheap George Shinn supposedly is, right? Furthermore, if he can reduce the committed salary on the books it might make it easier to finalize the sale to Chouset ... maybe. :dunno:

Yeah, but there are teams that could offer some assets along with instant cap relief. Why wouldn't the Hornets go to them? :dunno: They must be getting talent back, and I think it's going to come down to which package of talents they like better, since all the teams that have a chance can basically provide the same salary relief. $2 Million dollars, dunno how big of an effect that going to be. Certainly helps though.

Have you seen my latest vid Nik?

Broussard just said that IF there is a trade, it will be to Por

Gee, that seems a little weird.

Could we get an explanation behind that statement.

Why are no other teams in the running?

What is going to happen if Paul doesn't go to Portland? Portland or bust?

I don't buy it.

Basically, thats what he thinks. he said portland was clearly in the "drivers seat"

Monty connection to players would be my guess and we also as I've said innumerable times, have the best possible package to offer. Only NYK is even close.

it came from the magic box, just accept that it's the truth. no questions please.

When the centerpiece coming back (in ORL's case, Jameer Nelson) plays the same position as the guy you're trading CP3 to make room for, it's a dicier situation.

why isnt orlando close???

tell me how they DONT make sense?

They have Collison, no need for Jameer. Carter is an expiring, like Miler and Pryzbilla: Wash. Batum, and/or Oden plus Bayless and/or Rudy. I would like the Blazers package better, of course, I am a homer. :D

they could possibly trade one of their other PG's for something if he comes in the deal

i just think that VC's 17mil EC is huuuuge and i think it has a team option

And Carter isn't an expiring. He's owed 4 million after this season.

Our expirings are not much less. Plus, we give them young talent. What good does PG's do the Hornets again?

They don't have a lot of money in ending contracts right?

And no insured contracts for sure.

Their best trade chip is Nelson, an injured, $10mil PG, playing the same position as Collison. They do have some pieces, they just aren't exactly what NO would find exciting. I think that is the problem.

We all have to remember here, Monty is telling the NO brass that Batum is the equivalent of a top 5 pick and is about to BLOW UP. Only NY with Gallinari/Randolph has the comprable youth to float of Portland, but Monty doesn't know those guys.

What does NO need on their roster for cheap, young players if they trade Paul? They have Collison at the point. They have Thorton at the 2. They have West (for the moment anyway) at the 4. They need everything else. We send Bayless and Batum and they have got 1,2,3,4 & combo guard ready to go. Still need a Center.

why in GODS NAME would you throw out Oden's name when we have so many other options that make so much more sense?

Oden is not a throw-in man. He would be a center piece for crying out loud and Oden + Batum is actually the one trade I've seen that might be overpaying assuming we take Okafor in return.

Also A. Randolph the centerpiece in a NYK trade plays the same position as West. Bayless>>>>Galinari has more upside and has had less time to flourish also Monty knows and likes him. Even so, it's between NYK and POR. Those are the contenders IMO.

Joe Freeman is going to be on the Fan on Comcast pretty dang soon. We will see what he has to say...
