Trade Blazers trade Hezonja for Kanter!

So, maybe one of you Cap gurus can chime in here. Isn’t there a couple of million left over out of the $7 mil TPE? And didn’t the Blazers generate another TPE when they unloaded Hezonja for nothing in this deal? Not that I think they plan on using them now; just curious.

I don't not believe TPE's work that way. You can use up to the full amount, but any unused dollars are gone. No roll over minutes!

“Teams can consume only part of a trade exception, in which case they can use the remainder in a future trade. For example, if a team trades a $4 million player for a $2 million player, they gain a $2 million trade exception. If they later trade a draft pick for a $1 million player, they still have $1 million left over to acquire more players and complete the earlier trade (until one year from the date of the original trade).”

pretty sure that's not true

IIRC, you could use a 10M TPE, for instance, to trade for two players making 5M. Or 1 player making 6M and another making 4M. And the two trade could happen months apart just as long as they fit into the calendar year life of the TPE

the problem with 1-5-2.0M TPE's is that just about the only players that would fit into the exceptions are veterans on minimum contracts, and those contracts can be traded to any team, regardless of cap-situation, just as long as they aren't hard-capped. In other words, there's little value in those TPE's and about all they would fit is rookie scale contracts for late 1st round picks and 2nd round picks

Nice find... clearly I was way wrong... thank you for the info @e_blazer & @wizenheimer !

Could be wrong, but didn't OKC trade Enes for Melo a few yrs back?

Kanter just seems like a solid dude and a good teammate. I have no doubt there will be games he saves us with his rebounding/interior scoring. And he’s great insurance for Nurk.
Bundle of energy. Can either be annoying, or super infectious. We need to stick him next to DJJ the whole season, physically distant of course.

I love what Kanter brings to the team, but we're going to have the Ramadan issue during the playoff run again. Ramadan is April 12th to May 11th. He seems to manage to work through the fasting, but it can't be easy.

It is either really awesome that he fell in love with the city/franchise that quickly (he only played 39 games in Portland)...or weird that he seems to be going full bore Theo Ratliff here.

Playoffs don’t start til May 22nd. Also- Hakeem won two titles while observing Ramadan.

I feel like this is how Kanter is about everywhere he goes. He's either super grateful to be where he's at in the moment or he knows how to play up to the fans.

Either way, he's a nice upgrade from Mario, even though I fully expect he'll be getting some DNP-CDs this year.

I think he should be fine as an 18mpg backup. The problem was when we had him as a 40mpg starter.

This has always been my issue with Kanter. However Nurk is Muslim also as was Aminu.
The thing i wonder about is exactly how devout are they? We know Kanter fasts. I'm not sure about Nurk? Did Rasheed Wallace fast? I think Hakeem Olajuwan did fast but i can't be certain of that without looking it up?

One thing that has been over looked is fasting likely had an effect on Kanter, but i think his shoulder was more of an issue.

I agree. He was nursing a shoulder injury and he was allowing the doctors to numb him up to play. He was essentially playing with one arm.

Non-Jordan titles. Doesn’t count IMO. Beating the young Magic and the Starks Knicks instead of prime Bulls taints those titles.

I like Kanter but I think he has that personality where any and everywhere he goes is his favorite. I take him with a grain of salt.
