Trade Blazers trade Hezonja for Kanter!

They get to eat and drink at night. Sun up to sun down is when Muslims fast for Ramadan.
Yeah i understand that. My point was more looking at things that happened in the bubble (They played a number of Day games) and the fact that the story was hit and miss on the subject. It says he did it one month and he had one of his best months but it doesn't say he did it during the years he won championships or that he did it more than a couple years at all. The thing is Ramadan is early April to early May(4/12-5/12). This years play in tournament looks to be starting mid May around the 15th.
Kanter should be back to eating by playoffs but he will have to deal with it for any late season games they have. The days get longer after mid April. So he would probably still be fasting at the start of most games day or night?

Yeah the bubble would have been brutal for those who observe Ramadan but it happened during the COVID stoppage this year. I do know that sometimes on the West coast at the end of the season and into the very beginning of the playoffs the sun hasn't set when the evening games tip off but that's rare and when it happens the guys observing get better after halftime.

What a terrible take. The only problem with him starting then is that he wasn't Nurk. Kanter played awesomely for us and was one of the main reasons we beat Denver.

You misread my post, I was saying the issue of him being exhausted during Ramadan would only be a problem when he was a 40 mpg starter. Ramadan fasting isn't likely to be much of a problem as a backup.

I'm 75 and I fast 18 hours a day every day of the year, basically. And I do 40 minutes of strenuous exercise near the end of that fasting period. It should really not be a problem for a 28 year old guy. (admittedly, I don't do the water fast)

Glad that works for you. For the record, it’s only the water fasting that I have an issue with in the context of an NBA athlete. As others have said, it shouldn’t be a problem for a guy playing reserve minutes, but dehydration could be an issue playing starters minutes.

I fast several times a day. Usually between 7am and 11-1130 am. Then again between 12 noon and about 5pm. Then a couple mini fasts about an hour long. Then of course i fast from 10pm to 430 am.
I do this daily and i have not had a problem at all.

With all of those fasts, no wonder you're so speedy!

Damn how do you curb hunger? That’s impressive

Wow. I’ve been busy and not paying attention to Blazers. Knew we got Kanter but didn’t know it was for Hezonja. What a miracle!

Actually, it was more like we got Kanter for free, and could've also gotten the 30th pick for free but let Memphis have it for taking Hezonja.

Sounds like Memphis isn't even letting Hezonja show up for camp? Probably gonna buy him out.

Gotcha. I thought he was saying they were literally NOT letting him into their practice facility. I could totally understand why they wouldn't, just making sure.

I read on Twitter that he has not been invited to training camp.
Here is a story on it.

"Grizzlies camp news: Mario Hezonja and Marko Guduric are not/will not be in camp with the team. They remain on the roster for now, but barring trades a buyout for both before cut-down deadline looks likely."

They don't say the word invite that you are saying.

My guess is the Grizz don't plan on them being on the 15 man roster and communicated such to their agent/players. It would be stupid if the player had to fly in internationally and deal with quarantining only to be cut a few days later.

Its not like Mario was waiting down the street in his warm ups all ready to be invited but they aren't letting him in the building. He probably doesn't want to go either, just cash that $2 million and play somewhere else.

I don't think my definition of buyout and the guy who wrote that article's definition are the same thing. I'm pretty sure buyouts only happen when there are multiple years left on deals and a player feels they can do better somewhere else in the league. If Memphis wants Rio off of that roster, their just going to have to cut him and give him his guaranteed money... which isn't that much (for an NBA player) to begin with.

That doesn’t happen often. It’s almost always in the last year of the deal.

When has a buyout been for multiple years? All I can remember is in the final year which is very common.

Maybe I was wrong and it does happen a lot in the last year of the contract but as much as I may have overlooked that you are overlooking a huge phenomenon of multiyear buyouts. Just go to any team's payroll and look for dead money. That's because of a buyout and stretch provision on a deal that had more than a year left on it. Just on our team we still have Varejao and Nicholson that are dead money from buying out and stretching multiyear deals. Tons of teams have the same thing.

I think it's more one "way too" big year stretched over 3-4 years? Certainly that was the case with Varejao.
