“I think fans, by and large for the most part, wanted us to move away from italics,” said Hankins. “It seemed to place us in a certain creative timeline that we were no longer in. That was the one that was really loud and clear.”

As for the red, black and grey sash, the team strongly considered removing it from the new uniforms all together, but once again, fan feedback greatly informed the decision to keep the stripes. The width of the sash has been narrowed to match with the stripes on the side of the shorts, but it’s still there.

The new Nike “Association” and “Icon” editions will be available at retail starting at the end of September and will be significantly less expensive than the previous adidas authentic jerseys.

I would have been surprised to see the sash removed. Significantly less expensive? That's odd to hear.

Significantly less expensive is the only good thing about these new jerseys. Although what that means....who knows. Adidas Swingman jerseys were $110, which is pretty ridiculous. If they can cut that down to $60 I think that would be a fair price.

I'm glad there are only minor changes. I like them. Looking forward to seeing the other two that have more drastic changes.

Interesting that we don't have a sponsor yet on our uniforms. Or are they waiting to reveal that later? I bet there will be one by the start of the season.

I actually know a little about this.

It's a silicon forest based company.

They approached the Blazers.

Blazers mocked up a sponsor patch.

Now it's up to the company's board to give the thumbs up or down.

If they do a dark Grey Rip City I'm all over it.

Like this?

For real? That's cool. Do you know which company it is exactly?

Is it Intel? HP?

Huh.
Laika would be my first choice.
Airbnb seems like an obvious option.
Probably something like Genentech or Biotronik.
Those are the only ones I can think of that would be big enough to afford the marketing cost.
Oh - I know! McAfee! If he doesn't get the patch will he eat his own dick? Self-eating/sucking sure has been in the news lately...

They were actually thinking of removing the sash all together? Good Lord, that thought should've never entered anyone's mind. The stripes are synonymous with the Trail Blazers.

My thoughts on the actual jerseys:

Good: KEPT THE STRIPES, Rip City word mark on the shorts is a nice touch
Bad: Why is there still silver/grey anywhere near the team's color palette? Get it the fuck outta here. The team/city name on the front feels lonely. There's a color stroke around the numbers but not on the team/city name. Red should be our primary color and the team/city name should've been red. No stripes on the shorts is way too vanilla for my liking. Lastly, v-neck? Bleh.

Bottom Line: Just wear these

I wonder how much money was spent "designing" these new uniforms.

I'm by no means an expert in Graphic design -at all - but these, even to me, look amateur AF.

I may be alone in this, but I like the clean simple look of the new jerseys. I think the other two will be even better. Also, we kind of got what we wanted with the font. I'm pretty sure everybody wanted to get rid of the italicized lettering.
They look classic to me.

I think we're all in agreement that the previous font had to go. The new font just feels too simple and the serifs on the P and T in Portland feel out of place. We had an amazing font from the 70s/80s that was unique to this franchise ... why not go back to that?

I can see that. I love the old school fonts. But, the simple thing fits and is definitely more of a modern take. I mean, if it was completely up to me, I would use the all lower case font from the current "ripcity" logo for everything. I'm a sucker for lower case. But reading through comments, it seems like a lot of people are being overly harsh on what is a good and super clean design. Just my opinion.

Great post MAS.

Pet bottles? What the hell are pet bottles?!? Are they keeping pets in bottles or using pets as bottles? Either way, I'm outraged!

But, we already have a Nike logo on the Jerseys
