Wonder how Lakersground is handling this breaking news?

new york look like idiots burning cap room on chandler with the anticipation he was going to be traded elsewhere

Adrian Wojnarowski @WojYahooNBA
Y! Sources: NBA Commissioner David Stern has killed the Lakers deal for Chris Paul. tinyurl.com/ce3so4r

That deal can't be finalized until tomorrow. They still have a chance to pull out. This decision may domino a lot of others.

Re: Chris Paul is now a Laker . . . FML

Houston had the bad end. Lakers and No made out well.

Houston was on its way to creating a frontcourt of Gasol and Nene. LA's front court was Metta/Walton/Bynum.

Re: Chris Paul is now a Laker . . . FML

Some owners pushed Stern to demand that trade be nullified, and the Hornets be made to keep Paul on the roster for the foreseeable future, sources said. Dallas Mavericks owner Mark Cuban was one of the most vocal in a chorus of owners irate with the belief that the five-month lockout had happened largely to stop big-market teams from leveraging small-market teams for star players pending free agency.

Wow, I absolutely love this.

Seriously made my week.

Re: Chris Paul is now a Laker . . . FML

It's kinda funny because it was a decent deal for each team, I thought?

NO got a lot, and if Houston wanted to clear room for Nene, they did that as well, and would have had a Gasol, Nene front court.

Quality > quantity

The Lakers were getting the best PG in the game.

Re: Chris Paul is now a Laker . . . FML

I'm glad Cuban got in on this. If the Lakers got Paul and Dwight I would pretty much throw up my hands and say "fuck the NBA". I'm virtually at that point anyway, but this would be the straw that broke the camels back.

Re: Chris Paul is now a Laker . . . FML

Some of the comments from my Laker buddy:

Unreal. So, now the league is going to dictate who gets traded where?
How stupid. Is this serious?

Wow. What a bullshit--and quite disturbing precedent. There's gotta be a reason to block trade, other than "it's not fair that la gets him.".

You guys think it's funny because you're messing with me, but think about the slippery slope being made here. So, if he's now dealt to nyk, does the league block that too? Yet--Miami got away with this last yr. DUMB.

Maybe all the pussy owners should bitch about Miami getting battier too!

Re: Chris Paul is now a Laker . . . FML

well a little of my faith in the NBA has been returned.

Fist off, there's no guarantee they would have made a legit run at Nene. And even in they did they are a lottery team. They were facilitating the league's top PG to it's largest media market.

Re: Chris Paul is now a Laker . . . FML

Well, regardless of what we think about who got the bad end, we can possibly all agree that this will most definitely create some unnecessary discord among the Lakers this year.

Gasol was mentally fragile to begin with. Odom sounded devastated by this news.

Re: Chris Paul is now a Laker . . . FML

Ric Bucher @RicBucher

Reports are owners squashed Hou-LA-NO deal, citing conflict of interest for NBA-owned NO. But sources say Pau didn't want to go to Hou, too.

I just wish that Metta World Peace was part of the trade. I would have loved to have heard some of his responses. He doesn't seem to be the type of guy to keep his mouth shut.

Re: Chris Paul is now a Laker . . . FML

I love how all of the Laker fans are referring to the "Miami got their way last year, why can't we" way. Although I have a feeling Paul will end up a Laker, it feels good to see the Laker "fans" not get their way for once.

Re: Chris Paul is now a Laker . . . FML

It makes no sense to me the league would void this deal. Lakers give up two of the top big men in the game. You don't normally trade big for small, let alone two bigs for small.

I'm guessing that NO isn't as valuable an asset to sell by the league without CP3.

That was before the new CBA. The entire lockout was about what almost happened today. CP3 and his agent tried to do a "fuck you!" move to the owners and ditch a small-market for L.A.

Both in their 30's and at the tail end of their prime. That's a myopic way to look at it for New Orleans.

Re: Chris Paul is now a Laker . . . FML

Why is Chris Broussard on ESPN.com saying it was the Lakers that pulled out? Seems like conflicting stories

good point Mags, can't see why NYC can't pull the "tentative agreement" if they want

Re: Chris Paul is now a Laker . . . FML

David Aldridge @daldridgetnt
League spokesman: "Not true that owners killed the deal...League office declined to make the trade for basketball reasons."

Re: Chris Paul is now a Laker . . . FML

@warriorsworld Only thing more stunning than NBA killing trade? Lakers fans claiming victim status.

ha!

Re: Chris Paul is now a Laker . . . FML

Rumor from twitter is that CP3 is pissed and will not show up to training camp tomorrow, and is seeking legal action.

Re: Chris Paul is now a Laker . . . FML

Does Chris Paul at least get to keep the Lakers jersey?
