I don’t see the Spurs wanting to pair 19 year old Wemby and 33 year old Dame BUT Pop is old AF so who knows.
People think Wemby could legitimately be an immediate impact player.

(I have my doubts, but if they believe that...)

Was this the plan all along? Curious minds want to know. I suspect Cronin knew he couldn’t swing a big trade for the right supporting players, so he put all his bets on the draft and waited for Lillard to ask out. That way Lillard is the bad guy, not him.

I'll reserve the rest of my comments for after he's actually gone but he has been the best we've seen do it. He hasn't been given the teams around him the Drexler and Walton had but he's done it at a higher level for longer than anyone else in team history. More to come upon his departure.

How could he? He's a joke. No one around the league takes him seriously. He is out of his element.

lol...so it's Miami, Philly, and LAC?

draft picks:

let's see, Miami doesn't have a 1st round pick available till 2028. Philly doesn't have one available till 2029. LAC doesn't have one till 2028

young players?

Miami has Herro and Jovic; Philly has Maxey and McDaniels; LAC doesn't have anybody young unless you count 25 year old Zubac

this isn't looking so good. Fortunately, Portland has Cronin who appears to be a master of squeezing value out of a situation. He just squeezed Dame out of Portland and squeezed 160M into Grant

Lillard can help. If he does us like Clyde, then no appreciation from me.
Oh yeah if he's a douche afterwards (zero chance of that) then I can change my feelings cause that would mean he's a fake. He has ten times the authenticity and class as Clyde in that regard.

OK. Still can't call loyalty.

If you were married for a long time, your wife got breast cancer (NeO), it takes longer to recover than expected and you decide to go with someone else because you are getting old and she is a blond with big talent, you can't be called loyal anymore. Does not mean you were not a great husband before, does not mean you are necessarily bad, but loyal, you are not.

But we weren't willing to "recover." Schilling for a bunch of cheap billionaires drunk on their own power is not the way to go.

Who knows how long Wemby's career will be. Could be David Robinson, or could be Yao Ming.

I wanted Dame to play every game of his career for us and I believe he did too. Fuck Cronin for not having the vision and capability to make that tenable for Dame. I don't think Dame was asking for too much, he made his wishes clear and Cronin went the other way.

And Nets and Spurs

Joe and Chauncey now can relax and know they have a new plan that will take a number of years to implement. Job Security with going young, for now anyway.

Heat, Clippers and 76ers? Yuck - between the three of them they couldn't pool enough assets to interest me.

I disagree, it is just taking longer because the cancer was so bad that it will take time to restructure the roster. Either way, I will remember his stint fondly, but it's time to go forward.

Pretty sure they were clearing spaces on the roster.

that makes no sense

teams can carry 20 players under contract in the off-season. Portland has 7 or 8 now depending on if you count Grant. Blazers weren't going to trade Dame for 14 players

Is this another tank season for Chauncey? He started with Dame and CJ and now both are gone

For the first (and last) time ever I wish Daryl Morey were our GM. That motherfucker knows how to hold out for a good deal when a player demands a trade. (Glossing over the part where his key acquisition then also demands a trade about 6 months later...)

Watford had to be cut yesterday or his money was guaranteed. Decision had to be made.

Every time he could (besides with Jerami) Joe has punted. A day or two after Dame is gone I will move on to being excited about our young team and all of the fun we will have watching them but right now I'm pissed because Joe said one thing and did another over and over again, ultimately to force his way to the easy road.

Chauncey is a happy man today. Stress level plummeted. Pressure? What pressure? Wins? You see the toddlers I'm dealing with here? Playoffs?

Look the NBA is a business. Its looking like the money given to Grant is small compared to some of the new contracts. Look Dame has always been sure to get his money. If he wanted to he could have taken less money in his last contract or spread it out to get money available for good players. So what these modern players are saying is give me my max money and then I want to leave to make a try at a ring. We should make the best deal possible regardless of where he goes. He got his money now its our time to get value for that money we spent on him. If Jody wanted to dump contracts and give a clean slate to new owners it certainly has opened up that possibility. When and if he is traded it will be interesting to see how healthy he is during the season. Players at his age can certainly be injury prone. If we keep him this year his value could go dramaticly down. Change is the one constant.
