but in the modern era, which players actually showed more loyalty than Dame? I guess the list would be Dirk, Duncan, and Reggie Miller. Kobe I guess. DWade? But of them all, which player had the least reason to be loyal?
* The Mavs made it to the NBA finals in Dirk's 7th season. And every year of Dirk's time in Dallas, Cuban was obviously trying everything he could do build a champion team. Most things he tried failed, but there was no doubt at all he was trying, committed, and refused to straddle fences.
* The Spurs won a championship in Duncan's 2nd season. Dame is an 11 year vet. By the time Duncan was a 10 year vet, the Spurs had won 4 championships
* by the time Reggie Miller was an 11 year vet, like Dame, the Pacers had played in 5 Eastern Conference finals and one NBA finals
* Kobe joined a Lakers team that already had Shaq, Eddie Jones, and Nick Van Exel. In his 4th season the Lakers, when Kobe was 22, the Lakers won the first championship of a three-peat. Byt eh time Kobe was an 11 year vet, like Dame, the Lakers had 3 championships, had played in 5 NBA finals, had won 50 games or more 8 times and more than 60 games twice. In Kobe's 11th off-season, the Lakers began it by trading for Pau Gasol and bringing 2 more championships
* Miami won a championship in DWade's 3rd season AFTER Pat Riley traded for Shaq. In Wade's 9th off-season, Miami added Lebron & Bosh. And Wade had the confidence in knowing that Pat Riley was calling the shots and Spoelstra was his coach. Dame was looking at Olshey and Cronin for 11 years
the point of all that being that none of these other paragons of loyalty had that loyalty tested by as much failure and incompetence as Dame endured
