Are we trading Dame to Miami because he wanted to be there? What if OKC offer us their multiple draft picks?

100% - I do not believe there is any way to restructure that mess NeO left without a long process. It does not work unless people are willing to come to Portland to play with Dame. There was only 1 guy that really wanted to do that and Cronin got him. He had to retain some of the talent to try and make trades and he did it. He had to nail his drafts and he seems to have done that as well. Yes, this is 100% a process to fix the mess NeO left. Anyone that expected a miracle of turning that poo poo plater into gold on a dime thinks the Portland is downtown LA or Miami Beach. It's not.

Dame never asked for gold. He just asked for some vets. He would have rather lost in Portland than won anywhere else.

I didn't say we would get value for him, I just said he will be gone. It may take until the trade deadline (when other teams have injuries and are desperate) but surely you agree he won't be here long-term.

right now, I have a lot of trouble seeing Portland taking any 'yeah-this-is-the-smart-choice' option

Dame doesn't have a 'no trade' clause. He could go Ben Simmons but that wouldn't be a good look.

I wanted Dame to play every game of his career for us and I believe he did too. Fuck Cronin for not having the vision and capability to make that tenable for Dame. I don't think Dame was asking for too much, he made his wishes clear and Cronin went the other way.

Reggie Miller managed to make it tenable. I thought Dame was the same. Too bad. He will find his standing has been diminished.

We’ll be exciting to watch, but “better than expected”? I’ve seen what the west will be like this next year… not sure I’m expecting much.

25 wins?

I mean, people think we're gonna be <20 wins. I'm betting closer to 30.

When is the next time the city of Portland will have another superstar that has the caliber AND loyalty of Dame? Probably never. This is such a tragic day that was years in the making.

Exactly and when he asked the team not to go young they did the opposite. I guarantee you that this trade demand wasn't a shock to Joe and I would almost guarantee you this was in line with what was talked about during the conversation.

Well, if he waited a bit longer, I am sure there would be vets. The fact that no moves were made and that Miami was clearing space since the start of the FA period tells me he probably asked out a little while before.

Either way, it's done. I am fine with it. I wish him luck except when he plays Portland and I hope Scoot + Sharpe and company make him regret his move the way LMA probably regrets not sticking around with Dame when he wanted to go play in Texas.

I am absolutely fine with him wanting out, I am absolutely fine with people worshiping the ground he walks on, it's all good. My personal opinion is that I liked him here, great player, but I will not consider him loyal going forward. It's really that simple.

I don't blame Damian for asking out and I actually don't even blame in Portland or wanting to move on but they dang well better get nice package of young players and draft picks for him. If this is just a get him to Miami for crap than he is killing us on the way out. Although I guess he doesn't have to do us any favors anymore.
We don't have to do him any favors anymore either; if we can't get a good package from the teams he want to go to, he can stay here, sit out, whatever.

the houston rockets are gonna blow our doors off ... and they were BAD

we might be the worst team in the league next year...

with a historically weak draft

This is a classic case of Blazer fans over valuing hard working end of roster guys. Watford was not growing into a legit rotation player ever.

I don't believe I am overvaluing Watford at all. Look at the last 5 Blazer teams and I think you'll easily find at least 5 players on the rosters that were worse than Watford. Blazers may hve 6 or 7 worse next season. Watford effectively had a minimum contract. I just don't see any advantage in cutting him

I suppose it could be the Blazers had landed on an evaluation of his talent and upside that said 'no loss if gone' but I don't share it if that's the case

What a horrible signal to the young guys. Can't trust the organization so no reason to be loyal. They saw what loyalty from a top 75 player of all time brought.

There is no definitive list. We will get Dame to a good situation for him we better also get back the best package a good team can offer us. I've been saying this for a while but Brooklyn will probably make the most sense.
I'd love Brooklyn. A management team that is too dysfunctional to get out of their own way. Furthermore, Dame will get a taste of a real media market, one that doesn't lick his taint. My guess is he won't enjoy it.

He'll have traded his loyalty card for nothing.

Tremendous player, but I am more interested in a TEAM that accomplishes more, not just a player that has amazing personal stats. Sadly, that is what happened here. That is not a blame thing, just a tough reality.
