When is the next time the city of Portland will have another superstar that has the caliber AND loyalty of Dame? Probably never. This is such a tragic day that was years in the making.

Loyalty's subjective. In this day and age in the NBA, with players like Durant, Westbrook, Harden and others playing for different teams every couple of years, Dame is eternal.

At the same time, I don't know how anyone can divorce that from the fact that Dame had as much input and control over his team and its fanbase than any player other than LeBron, and his "loyalty" resulted in him being one of the highest paid players in the NBA, a man with successful businesses in the Portland area and a national brand marketed largely on the fact that he was willing to take the road not traveled.

Dame wasn't exactly an indentured servant for the Blazers. I think we need to stop pretending we were holding him hostage. He got a lot out of Portland that many bigger names have not out of their team(s).

What oppressive laws are you talking about? Nobody is erasing history of slavery or Jim crow, they just aren't pushing the demonstrably fake 1619 BS which is actually ultra divisive? All that trash along with CRT does is help bring about racial tension that was all but gone until it was resurrected cynically to divide Americans for political gain by BOTH parties so they can enrich their donors while we all fight over race and orientation. Divide and Conquer is the name of the game for the rich and when people back that because they think they are helping it shows a complete lack of knowledge of history. I strongly suggest people look up some nightmare historical examples like the Cultural Revolution in China where exactly these kind of divisions were exploited.

LOL. Florida’s economy is booming, people have flocked there since the pandemic, and the government is so functional that the incumbent governor was re-elected in a landslide. I WISH Oregon’s government was so horrible.

Tremendous player, but I am more interested in a TEAM that accomplishes more, not just a player that has amazing personal stats. Sadly, that is what happened here. That is not a blame thing, just a tough reality.

While this is partially my perspective, and I certainly voiced my hesitancy when Dame received his massive contract...

Part of that is having management that makes moves to put talent around a player that has amazing personal stats.

It hasn't worked for Luka and Kyrie, but at least they got him Kyrie.

When a team gets LeBron, they don't surround him with a bunch of rookies and young guns. In fact, the Lakers arguably gave away too much in order to put a decent team around LeBron, and they won a championship for it. Mickey Mouse or not, I bet Blazers fans would've been celebrating it.

So yes, I want a team that accomplishes more, but it's hard to see how that happens if we refuse to take any risks.

Besides Grant they were really bad mistakes and possibly now with all of that money committed to him yesterday they might all be really bad mistakes. They definitely weren't all star level second best players that Dame needed. Most of them really didn't make much sense especially at the price point. Grant at his acquisition was the only one of those guys who was good value.

Not disputing that those moves failed, but that doesn't change the fact that we tried to do that for Dame, which the post I quoted seemed to imply we didn't.

The sad thing is that some of the resources we gave up in those deals would have been veteran contributors by now, the very thing Dame wanted.
