The other side of it is Pat Riley is one of the best GMs, one of the best trade makers..so there's a high probability he bends Cronin over.I admire your optimism, but I’m afraid you’ll end up sorely disappointed. Cronin has absolutely no leverage here. Even if he has the balls to demand a high level return and holds his ground when that doesn’t happen (not likely he does) he’ll get ruthlessly hammered every day that passes for holding Dame hostage after all the years he was loyal to the organization. Not sure Joe is built for that kind of pressure.
If the only deals available today involve Portland getting fleeced, I say don’t pull the trigger. Nothing against Dame. He’ll always be my favorite Blazer, his request to go somewhere else doesn’t change that. BUT, he should understand this is a business. He signed a contract to be here and he’s the biggest asset the organization has. To hand him over now for a bag of peanuts because he wants to go elsewhere would be bad business. So bad it could set us back 5 years or longer.
I hope I’m wrong about Joe. I hope he refuses to let Dame walk for nothing in return, even if that means Dame decides to hold out. Something about how Miami expects to take advantage of the situation is maddening. Why should they be gifted a top 75 future HOFer for Tyler Herro and some scraps? I’d rather stand pat and live with the daily distractions of where’s he going to end up. Not a pleasant thought but better than bending over imo.
I truly think if we can pull off a solid return this will springboard us forward, but the opposite is also true. Given our recent history its hard to be optimistic but I'm trying.
