Assuming all of this is true.

Why didn’t management notice what *some* of us *dumb* forum members noticed, and say, “yeah, we can’t do this” and trade Dame *years* ago?

People are completely letting Joe off the hook here. If he was saying stuff to keep the star happy, knowing good and well he couldn’t do it, WHY NOT TRADE DAME?

Just unbelievably bad management.

I think he genuinely thought he could get a trade done, but when other teams smelled blood in the water with dame being unhappy the price for help got exponentially more expensive not to mention we didnt really have the most coveted of assets either outside of #3 and sharpe, and we all know we werent going to give up sharpe. So if anything he probably did a decent job at managing this shit show thus far by not giving away everything but the kitchen sink for a possible upgrade, that again also didnt guarantee dame to stay anyways....

I agree - I think Joe has been stuck between a rock and a hard spot. He wanted to add vet talent around Dame but didn't have the assets. Now Dame wants to be traded to one specific team that doesn't have the assets to do the trade. I don't really think that playing the blame game now does anybody any good. The table has now been set for a rebuild featuring some pretty promising talent. Let's just hope we can get back a decent return on a Dame trade and get on with it! Just my 2 pesos!

Because without a trade request from Dame, 80% of the fanbase turns on him immediately and the team knows it. Look at how much the support the team got now because Dame was the one who asked out. This is a PR war and neither side wanted to be the bad guy.

If you're the Blazers, you sacrifice future wins to keep what would have been the all-time greatest Blazer. If would have been financially foolhardy for the Blazers to ever trade a top-75 player who actually wanted to be here. It was always going to have to be Dame asking out.

I just wish he would have given us more than one team.

I’m just not that nostalgic. I want to see the team win a ring. I didn’t get to experience 77.

I did. In person, in fact. I never let my father forget that he refused to let me run down to the court. I also watched the parade from the SW corner of Broadway and Taylor. Those are memories I will never forget.

Exactly. So I don’t want to keep Dame for four more years just for the memories. Time to move on.

Some of you are pretty hardcore about the blazers, do you guys have NFL and MLB teams too? Just curious if this is just 1/3 of your board postings per day? Thank god I have my Braves considering the Blazers and Raiders are pretty much dumpster fires at the moment.

NFL: Ravens (hence the colors of the Blazer pinwheel in my profile pic lol)
MLB: Yankees (lol speaking of pinstripes)
NHL: Kings

My point was not what makes sense competitively or what the fans want, it's what's most profitable and breeds the most loyalty for ownership. Keeping Dame was always the best choice for them.

And trading him does not guarantee a ring. We probably would stand a better chance of winning one with him than without him.

No chance we'd take on Duncan Robinson. Herro would go to a 3rd team. I think we'd take Lowry's expiring.

I think there's a chance we'd take Herro though, then eventually trade either Herro or Simons. Maybe start sharp at SF for now....

Doesn’t make sense. We aren’t taking Herro and I don’t see why we would let them keep Jaquez and Martin.

It could make sense as the Heat’s part of the deal if a third team gets involved, takes Herro and Duncan, and gives the Blazers a player or two that they want. I don’t know about the 4 firsts though. I thought they could only come up with 3.

If Dame were to come out and say "This is where i want to be, i want to mentor Scoot" and try to win a championship. You absolutely take him back. No questions asked.

If Dame were Chris Paul, keep him around to get some reps and show him some tricks. I have no interest in Scoot Henderson learning to play PG in the same style as Damian Lillard, and obviously, he doesn't have the skill set even to try. As for leadership on the floor, it appears that Scoot has that figured out and needs to be Scoot. Defensively...Yeah, no. Not sure a player on his level, who is already working with Steph Curry and coached by Chauncey Billups would have to learn from Damian. It would more likely hinder his development.

yeah, that doesn't make any sense at all. Heat wouldn't have 4 first round picks send out. The swaps were just listed to make it look like a better package

And Miami will have to come up with more. They are trying so hard to not trade Martin and Jaquez WHILE dumping Robinson. Fuck that noise

yeah, the Heat guy is just trying to make it seem Miami is giving up a lot by making the picks and swap list longer. Right now, Miami has two first round picks

We better be taking Lowry and not Duncan Robinson in any deal that MIA puts out. Send them Keon if they need more salary to make it work. I just don't see it with that guy.

And one more that they could potentially free up with OKC, right?

was at trader joes near NYC today wearing my pinwheel hat and the cashier felt compelled to console me. he revealed he was a Kings fan and said fans of small market teams have to stick together.

for fucks sake.

Cronin has a place in New York?

If this is the Heat's final offer, I think the odds of Dame going to Miami are decreasing. The Blazers don't want Herro and I don't think they want Robinson. Heat keep pushing this "we'll give you stuff we don't care about and spare parts for a difference-maker."

Then you read the comments and see Heat fans melting down that they'd have to give this up. They contradictorily want Dame because they say he's the piece that puts them above and beyond anyone else in the East and maybe the league while he's also too old and on a bad contract that makes him unworthy of giving up anything of value. I've seen some homer fanbases before, but I can't recall ever seeing one that both talks up and talks down players they're trying to acquire (or players they're trying to use to acquire that player) to rationalize the idea of an insanely imbalanced trade.

Isn’t that hilarious?
