I think the reality is Aaron Goodwin fucked us. And he messed it up for his client. Public temper tantrums via Haynes and then calling teams to dissuade them reduced his market to one team.

But the reality also is that we have no obligation to trade Lillard for less than his worth. He either would be an excellent mentor for Scoot or be sent home to collect paycheck while the stink of his agent's work diffuses through the season.

Give this time. Once Miami starts out playing <.500, or BK realizes they desperately need a PG, or TOR feels they are one Dame away from contending, or Philly feels some pressure from Embiid, etc the market will open up.

This will get ugly. You'll hear reports from all his media cronies about how inept Cronin is or how cheap our owner is. It's nothing new. Just gotta be patient. As Woj said, there are generally only a few periods of time in the yr when movement happens. The next checkpoint is training camp, then the Feb trade deadline. It will inevitably happen then.

All can be true.

I still don't really have a good read on what Dame's actual value is.

Hard to get a gauge on it when only one team has made an offer. But irrelevant in the grand scheme of things. What's the worst that can happen? We have to keep him past this year? Haha ok, gladly. That was the original plan anyway.

3 to 4 first rounders, pick swaps, 2nd rounders, including young players is getting pretty close.

Make it 4 first rounders as well as pick swaps every year until the year before the last first rounder in the trade and we're getting serious...

I dont think there is a path forward without a definitive prospect or young player coming back to us. Even a Tyler Herro type but at either C or wing is a minimum requirement with Dame trades.

Agreed. In this situation the young player (s) will have to be an exciting prospect.

Remember when we heard Cronin was trying to thread a needle to build a great team with Lillard?
{buzzer sound} wrong... that thread the needle moment is how much Cronin can piss off Miami off until they improve their trade package.

It's a risky move, because the fallout is nobody else would trade for Lillard's supermax contract, and Portland will be stuck with huge chip on his shoulder Damian.

Imagine Lillard missing 12 threes in a row on purpose, we're talking board cracking over the shot clock heaves from half court. Billups would bench Dame, the Moda Center would boo.

Who the heck wants that to happen?
don't answer that, because several Blazer fans have already turned this Lillard trade request into a LaMarcus walking Raymond Felton sweaty fat guy, slippery ball, dribbling it off his foot moment.

I'm so fn sick of Heat fans and Heat Media.

Fuck the muh-fkn fkn Miami Heat and Their fans and fkn Pat fkn Riley. Fk 'em all.

Don't trade him. Let him start the season with the Blazers. Make a trade later.

Of course nobody is offering shit, it's been like three days since the memo.

I sure as hell hope at this point we don't cave to Miami's mac and cheese offer.

Delusional conspiracy take: Adam Silver will force us to trade Dame to Miami if he starts training camp on our team.

I just wonder how much of this is Aaron Goodwin talking way too much shit. I think there's a possibility that he thought he could bully Joe into doing what he wants.
And there's the very real possibility Cronin told Dame he'd trade him where he wants to go (considering Cronin has already done this with three players) but they didn't trust Cronin to stick by his word considering he hasn't up to this point.

But did Dame tell Joe that it was Miami and ONLY Miami before he went public? And should Joe take a shit deal just to make Dame happy? And by shit, I mean Herro, Robinson, 2 picks? Miami knows they're only bidding against themselves so why on earth would they give us even remotely good value on Dame?

And it's like Dame still doesn't get it, or doesn't give a shit, that when he puts us in a box it drastically reduces our leverage in negotiations.

Imagine if Lillard said Lakers only, GSW only, PHX only. The dumpsters full of scrubs and 2nd rounders for Lillard would have been far worse then a Heat package.

Listening to the Fentress/Oregonian podcast and he said he spoke with Simons at Vegas and he said "so I guess you're staying?" And Simons said back, "We'll see."

I think if we make a deal with Miami for Dame that we will see the teams that were interested in Herro and especially if we're getting Lowry in that trade, we'll talk to one of the other teams who were interested in Herro and see what they'll give us for Ant.

Maybe. I think we keep Ant at least for next season just to see how things shake out.

I just really really don't want to see a small starting back court again. I also don't want to see Shaedon having to start at the three alongside a small back court. I also don't want to see Scoot or Shae giving up minutes to Ant. Now if Chauncey is smart enough to bring Ant off of the bench but give almost all of the 96 minutes in the back court to a three man rotation of Scoot/Shae/Ant, then I'll be cool with it. I think the best way to showcase Ant is as a super sixth man anyway.

some quotes from Lillard after Blazers gave him the supermax extension last summer.

"I don’t want to go out there with this crazy uphill battle that I’m fighting and we need a miracle times 10 to get it done. I just want a shot at it. And if that happens, and it doesn’t work out, then I can live with it.”

”The answers that I got and the responses that I got, I didn’t look at him, like, ‘Oh, he’s just telling me this,’ I was able to trust what I was hearing from Chauncey and Joe, And I think I’ve got a good nose for when somebody is blowing smoke."

This is exactly why I've been saying wait until the deadline. There will be more teams willing to trade for Dame then. Competition drives up value.

Huge risk if he gets serious injury his value will be shot. Plus do you alienate the young guys if they don’t get the playing time early on. All things to consider but I agree the longer we wait the better the return.

Dame or Miami will cave
