Don't know if this has been posted elsewhere (forgive me if so), but I thought it is at least worth discussion. I wanted to cite the Spike Eskin recent claim in his podcast (The Rights ro Ricky Sanchez) that there has been a ton of chatter about a three-team deal being discussed (Philly-GSW-PDX) around Simmons-Dame-etc.: https://www.rightstorickysanchez.com/podcast/080821.

This seems to be the first instance in which the claims go beyond the standard "Morey/Philly is interested," to the "there has been movement on this front" vibe. I will also say that I have found Spike Eskin to be a generally credible and levelheaded, especially considering that his day job is in sports radio. For instance, he has been a frequent voice on Zach Lowe’s podcast, and Zach doesn’t tend to go for attention-grabbing, hot-take artists.

I have no doubt that he is hearing such things, but he is likely hearing it completely from the Philly side. How reliable are his sources speaking to the Blazers' perspective on this matter is a COMPLETELY different story. The first fifteen minutes or so of the podcast address the Dame-to-Philly "smoke."

Dame goes to Philly, Simmons to GSW and the Blazers get fucked? Yeah, no thanks

I can speculate...and I have ideas, and some are totally ridiculous. I guess I'm qualified to have an NBA blog or podcast

Yep. Certainly not advocating for the deal, but posted here because it was the first instance we've seen of a connected-media member suggesting that discussions have happened. That's all... And addressing Wiz above, I do think Eskin has better credentials and far more connections than the average fan podcast. Does that mean he and his sources are right? Of course not.

The Blazers aren't going to make Phillys and GSWs dreams come true and screw themselves. It's not happening.

I mean, if Dame did ask out, we could do a lot worse than a GSW - Philly threeway. GSW has Wiseman, and two lotto picks from this draft. I like Kuminga. We could also ask for a bunch of picks.

Philly can get all excited, all they want, listening to what's said on the Dirty Sanchez Show. I call Bullshit!

Exactly. IMO, if dealing Dame netted us Thybulle and Maxey from Philly along with Wiseman, Moody, and Kuminga from GSW, that's about as good a haul as we could probably ever hope to expect.

In a 3 way with Phi/GSW I’d demand Kuminga, Moody, Thybulle, Wiseman, Maxey plus expirings to make money work. I mean that’s a hell of a start on a rebuild.

I was literally typing the same thing when you posted this. It would be an insane package of young guys on cheap contracts, at that point though CJ and Norm on their deals become expendable imo.

A bunch of unproven dudes to a team that just signed Powell. Yah, that makes sense. NOT! Total nat'l media BS.

I’ll be honest I’ve been in the keep Dame camp but realistically we can’t/won’t do anything to get good enough to be a serious contender. Maybe it is time to cash him in for a 2-3 year head start on a rebuild. If we can get 3-4 guys who will be starters for us in a season or two maybe we should take it.

And then, as soon any of those youngsters actually shows he's actually can play, they go, I'm outta here. Headin' for the limelight. Gahhhhhbiiiiddddgeeeee.

You mean like our current superstar is rumored to be wanting to do because we never got him the help he needed?

Besides, rookies are restricted free agents after their first 4 years if we picked up their options. So at least for their first contract after their rookie scale contract, we can match any deal that we wanted.

Powell on the deal he has is an asset. We should have no problem dealing him.for more young assets if we needed to.

First it was Laker fans with the “if Dame demands a trade to LA, the blazers will have no choice but to take our crap players.” Now it’s Sixer fans.

For the life of me, I fail to grasp how/why Philly fans have any right to be a tenth as arrogant as Laker fans. Fuck them both, but 76ers aren't even in the same class as the Celtics.

Dan Marang has said he's talked to multiple people around the league and they seem to think that Dame will ask out at around the deadline as a courtesy but moved next summer if Olshey does anything.

Also a discussion of whether or not Olshey would like to re-tool around CJ as the franchise player (and not get fired in the process). Sadly I agree with all of this.

Still butthurt about '77.

I didn't watch college BBall this year. Would a Dame trade that netted us Jalen Suggs be of interest?

Downsides:
For us: we'd suck (rather than being a 7th or 8th seed)
For Philly:Simmons in the same conference, and you know he'd be up for Philly games
For Orlando: maybe they don't like Simmons?

Why not just keep Simmons? Well, for all the reasons Philly wants to trade him, plus he doesn't want to be here, plus he seems to have a shitty attitude (and NEVER SMILES). Suggs, on the other hand, sounds like (a) a winner, (b) a leader, and (c) while not the elite passer/defender/athlete Simmons is, is very good at just about everything, no glaring holes in his game.

huge mistake if you plan on trading him you trade him sooner rather than later. Say he has an injury his value drops. If we truly are considering it I’d trade him no later than this years deadline hes had a lot of wear and tear

A backcourt of CJ and Powell? CJ would be running point.

I said this before draft I believe he’s got the “it” factor and in the mold of a Chauncey but better scorer. I would love to get him but no way they trade him
I'm sure you're right, just because it's a huge cost-savings to have a rookie, and everybody overvalues a guy they've just acquired...
BUT: if they were tired of sucking and wanted to get back to the playoffs RIGHT NOW, this trade would do it for them.

I just can't understand why Neil still has a job. I don't get it.

So are we not doing anything because Dame leaving is a forgone conclusion and we're not going to gut the franchise to try to make him happy?

I could see Neil targeting Brandan Ingram.

Cj
Powell
Ingram
Covington
Nurk?

If Dame is out Nurkic will probably ask for a trade also.
