Politics Democrats vent but can't stop Trump from leaving Paris climate agreement

The rest of the world is addicted to our paying for everything. No wonder they're upset.
You should live overseas and actually meet some people.....my 2 decades living outside the States made me realize the US isn't such a big story in most of the world after all.....my relatives spend very time thinking about American politics or involvement in their countries...taking care of the global environment has nothing to do with nationalistic profit unless in fact, that's your religion...the thing that makes you cry and sets your hair on fire as you say. We tend to think the globe is waiting on our every move and actually....that's just American arrogance....life goes on for people whether we help out or not. I can only speak for the family members I have in Taiwan, Ireland, New Zealand and Australia...and contrary to popular belief, most of those folks don't want to move here.

This does completely make my point. I'm not asking how climate change works. I'm asking for tangible proof of how the US fixes it by being part of this agreement. That's all. There isn't one example in this thread or on the news.

Maybe you should spend a little time reading about what the problem truly is and how it will effect the only home we have so you can be part of an informed discussion of what to do. Denny is so confused on this subject he's already contradicted himself multiple times. And Denny is a really smart guy (not saying you're not, lol). He goes from saying carbon isn't the problem to Canada failed because they didn't reduce enough carbon.

It was a good move by Trump. The US should stop paying for everybody else. We will meet the emission goals set forth in the agreement anyway. Liberals just don't like the optics of the announcement.

Not sure if this was written to me but few people you could meet have a lower carbon footprint than I....I've been championing environmental protection since the 70s.....I read a lot of articles about global warming but traveling through China, I saw it first hand...they did the worst job managing their natural resources you could imagine...deforested, dried up watersheds, air pollution etc....now they have had no choice but to address it....China is running out of water as we speak. We have practiced dumping crap we can't legally dispose of here in 3rd world countries like Cambodia for a long time....out of site, out of mind.

I'm asking for one person here to give an informed opinion of what this agreement does. Will not get it. Not sure why I'm asking a question I know I won't get an answer to.

Do you know anything about this agreement other than Trump is an asshole?

I don't want a link to Reddit. You tell me why this is bad. Hell, anyone. Please?

I can see how news organizations around the world cover the US.

You don't speak to the US shelling out as much as $100B/year to other countries and how other countries might actually want that money.

Here is an indication of where the sea shore for the east coast including Florida has been in previous cycles of sea level change.
Can anyone say or produce a link to where it says, how the Paris accord would change this so we never see returning to the red line?

:dunno:

Anyone that wants to do anything about emissions should try and get California's Fastrak toll road bullshit outlawed.

I was just there in a sea thousands of cars while 2 near empty lanes sat waiting for people who had more money.

It's goal is to limit the warming of the planet to 1.5 degrees by 2100 and reduce carbon emissions by power plants by 32% by 2030.
My goal is to be a billionaire by next year and invent a time machine. This "largely symbolic" agreement does what you say how?

I wont hold my breath.

All I'm seeing is hair on fire. The world is coming to an end tomorrow!

That and, "I lost so I'm going to cry, and when I don't get my way, I'm going to cry some more.".

Ad hominem attacks - the last refuge for someone with no intellectual heft or points to make.

Republican Congressman Says God Will 'Take Care Of' Climate Change

Michigan Rep. Tim Walberg said during a town hall in Coldwater, Mich., on Friday that while he believes climate change is real, it is not something for humans to solve.

"I believe there's climate change. I believe there's been climate change since the beginning of time," Walberg said. "Do I think man has some impact? Yeah, of course. Can man change the entire universe? No."

He continued: "Why do I believe that? Well, as a Christian, I believe that there is a creator in God who is much bigger than us. And I'm confident that, if there's a real problem, he can take care of it."

That's all I see against Trump - ad hominem attacks.

I made none, just a fair observation.

Is VOX a news source you normally read? I suggest the Wired and LA Times articles but as you can hopefully see there are many articles covering exactly what you're asking about.
No, it's the first result from your Google link.

I asked if you or anyone here knew one damn thing this did. Still waiting.

I've literally started using Riverman's idea of reading people's posts in famous voices. Unfortunately most of them are Billy Bob in Sling Blade.

it's not about us seeing it...it's about our great grandchildren seeing it....long term view...short term view seems old guys just want theirs now and fuck the future. Religion of the GNP. I've got grandchildren I'd like to know won't have chronic bronchitis or asthma from stupid industrial age decisions their grandparents made...I would hope they could drink well water when you and I are long gone. Takes foresight Marz....not instant gratification.

Wow, you and Denny are amazing. It's unbelievable how long you both can keep your heads buried in the sand without feeling the need to breathe......good luck with that.

Something common here and it bares little resemblance to do with anything close to science, earth geology or rising seas. Seems more like chastising people for failing to fallow the teaching in catechism.

I live most of the time in the Palm Springs area. I cannot get any Solar company to install solar on my roof, even if I were willing to pay cash for it. They say it's a horrible deal without the electric company subsidizing most of the cost.

Even with massive government subsidies:

Head in sand === not seeing the hemorrhaging of money, pouring good money into a black hole.

OK, so from what I have read about all of this, a summary of my understanding...

This agreement has emission goals, that are set by each country, but you don't actually have to keep them. There is a financial commitment that the US will significantly fund, plus each participating country will contribute. IF each country keeps the goals they set, it is still debatable on how this will affect the temperature increase rate (I saw debatable because I have seen the numbers vary), but will definitely slow the rate.

Can anyone verify if my summary is on the right track? I don't want opinions just if this is close to the facts.

A repeat here seems appropriate.
