OT Don't Be Dissin' The American Flag

Soooooo...these players are taking a knee. Are they doing anything with that? Or is this simply an act they'll carry out until somebody else figures out how to correct this issue?

Sooooooo...these patriots cover their hearts and “respect” the flag while police murder people. Are they doing anything with that? Or is this simply an act they’ll carry out until players figure out how to correct this issue?

The players are the ones protesting.

I'd love it if the player associations got involved and helped develop player programs - speaking in schools, community service, and the like. These players are advantaged - much more than you and me - so it would be great if they took their plea to another level.
What about this sort of thing? Do you see a problem with that or is that not what you are looking for in your athletes?

Turning the issue into a flag/military issue is what racists do. That doesn't mean that everyone who twists the issue in this way is racist, they just don't understand that it is only used in this manner to marginalize and diminish black people and their cause.

I see Drew Brees has issued an apology. I'll bet he still isn't woke, as they say. It takes a true prospective shift for that to happen. But maybe he is on his way.

The flag is a symbol of a country. If the country doesn't stand for the morals they claim to have, the flag means nothing.

so you don’t care, got it

I do care. But, if someone is gonna take the time/effort to protest, wouldn't it be great if they also took the time/effort to help find solutions? What does that have to do with somebody simply placing their hand over their heart and honoring, both, our country and those who have sacrificed to help make us the greatest nation on earth?

Uh.....Black people are tired of waiting for “solutions”. It hasn’t worked in any way shape or form to this point. Without these protests, they would continue to wait until they are dead. Wake up man!! “Inside the box“ thinking is what has led us to this point!

So, protesting is the answer. Way to take me back to the 60's, "man".

Yeah right. all thanks to an obstructionist, mostly (If not all) white Republican congress (for 6 out of 8 years) Who made it clear every day of the Obama administration that they would not allow a black man to govern with their consent. All those clowns did was pour gas on an already smoldering fire. And it’s a huge reason we are at this point today. But keep tossing out the red herrings. I love me some fish........

Meanwhile, you can keep on thinking protests - in and of themselves - are the answer. Good luck with that.

He's complicit. Notice the lack of response even after being called out in my post with that ridiculous Laura Ingraham video comparing her response to Brees vs LeBron.

I did respond back to HCP. Even asked him questions following that. Laura who??

I never said they were the “answer”. I think I made it pretty clear (To those who choose to listen) that they ARE a part of the solution. Any other words you want to put in my mouth?

Point me to your comments, then. I don't read every post in here.

Oh my

Then why are you even commenting when you have no real idea as to what is being said? The easy answer is that you’re just trolling to amuse yourself. Hopefully it’s working for you.

Well, I sure can't help it if you're not able to discern anything from my comments. Take a few moments to go back through them, if you even care to. Obviously, you have no concept of the term troll.

what would be even better yet would be if our elected officials took these issues to another level....instead of attacking the sport a protester plays as having horrible ratings...losing...no good anymore...poor ratings....it starts at the top and now....the top is the bottom unfortunately

ABM is simply the type of sheltered white man who figures if things worked out for him, there can't be injustices or problems other people face that he has no conception of. That's essentially the root of his smug "Why don't they just solve the problems rather than wasting time telling me about them?" attitude. I don't think he's a bad person, just someone who doesn't understand what people who aren't white, straight men often face and was taught all through his life that he shouldn't need to learn because "American is the fairest, most just society God ever created. Everybody has the same opportunities."

While we disagree on various matters, I find you to be a reasonable and thoughtful poster in here. This is an article you might be interested in reading.....

@ABM you should look into Lillard's Respect program. He's been going into the schools and communities for years.

As I'm not Portland local, I miss some of the other things going on there. That said, anything such as the RESPECT program gets my vote as players making above and beyond efforts to get involved in their communities. Bravo for Dame!
