Justin hebert looked like an average qb under mario. Mario was garbage.
Average looking QBs don't go in the top 10 picks. For sure Mario really likes the run game, but Oregon didn't have very good WRs during Justin's Duck era which only reinforced their offensive philosophy. I would have loved to see him have targets like the Ducks feature now.

or targets like the Chargers have

here's an interesting set of stats:

* in Hebert's senior season, he averaged more passes that Mariotta did his Heisman season.

* in Hebert's senior season, him passing was a bigger percentage of the Duck offense than Mariotta passing was in his Heisman season

* in Herbert's junior and senior seasons, Oregon led the nation in dropped passes. Well over 50 drops his junior season

in 4 seasons, Herbert had 3 different head coaches, 3 different OC's, and 3 different offenses. He had the weakest group of receivers that any Duck QB had had a for a couple of decades. They just couldn't consistently gain separation.

there were probably some schematic things that the Ducks could have done a little better. But you can't have a good passing game without an established system and good receivers and Oregon didn't have either

Pac-12 men's & women's track & field championships in Eugene this weekend, starting today.

Oregon men have won 14 conference championships in a row and 16 of the last 18. In a tough race with USC this weekend though

Oregon women had won 9 straight from 2009-2017, but USC won the last 3. Oegon women are favored

Raining like crazy. To bad

yeah...not good conditions at all

this has been the worst April/May weather in the Valley I can remember. Eastern Oregon hasn't been much better either
But, after the awful fires, where the sky looked like Mars, and the air was filled with choking smoke, i'll take this any day. I never want to see that again.

trouble is that rain in April doesn't prevent fires in September

maybe not, but those two dry springs & dry winters didn't help leading up to those fires. Other than that 100 year snow storm in Eugene, it hardly rained. This rain Will help.
.

My concern with the rain is it is going to make all the grasses and such grow tall. Once they die from the summer heat, it is good fuel for the fires.

Possibly, but it also could keep vegetation moist. Preventing it from getting tinder dry.

Colorado is so tinder dry, there were wildfires in the winter . I was still living there. The firestorm that blew through Superior & Louisville and took out a 1000 structures , including million dollar homes, and a hotel, happened because of the lack of consistent moisture the past half decade. I don't want flooding, but we need the moisture.

Rainfall drives business's.

these are not rankings anymore that if I made a ranking. It's one writer at one website pulling nonsense out of his ass

so no, it doesn't surprise me. Lanning's defensive recruits and Lanning's defensive schemes sure seemed to do well last season
MY APOLOGIES, but it looked like it was more than just one dude. Whether they're experts or not, I have no idea. I just hadn't seen any "rankings" like this in that past.

Oregon
Dan Lanning: Clearly, some of our voters hold Lanning in high esteem, as he's ranked highly for a coach yet to be in charge of a program. It certainly isn't indefensible. After all, Lanning just played a part in Georgia's national title win, coordinating what might've been the best college football defense we've ever seen. He also brings the same kind of recruiting acumen that Mario Cristobal possessed. Lanning seems ready to hit the ground running in Eugene. 2021 rank: n/a

Jonathan Smith: CBS Sports voters have always been big fans of Smith, and that certainly wasn't going to change after he led the Beavers to their first bowl game since 2013. It's been a slow and steady climb for Smith, and his program recovered well from a step back during 2020 to get to a bowl and finish with a winning record in the Pac-12. It's the first time the Beavers have done that since 2012. 2021 rank: 56 (+19)

no, he has a Head Coaching track record and that matters for ridiculous offseason lists like this. A year from now the rankings will be different but really who cares about this?

Just trying to have some good natured discussion.

Sorry if I came off heavy, I just find these offseason lists silly as they're just some guy's opinion that carry zero weight about anything that matters towards winning games. I'd feel the same if Oregon's coach topped the list.

Elite prospects who've scheduled Official Visits include...

#7 Overall recruit DE/WR Samuel M'Pemba of Florida.
#10 Overall recruit DE Jayden Wayne of Washington
#12 Overall recruit OT Kadyn Proctor of Iowa
#28 Overall recruit RB Richard Young of Florida

The #2 Overall recruit is DT David Hicks from Texas. Following his Spring unofficial visit to Eugene he said..."I feel like Oregon has been my dream school since I was a little kid and I always thought highly of Oregon. They definitely met my expectations and maybe exceeded them." Additionally by my count there are 6 more guys within rivals top 30 recruits who are said to be considering taking official visits this summer/fall. I'll say it again, I have never seen this much Duck interest from top prospects.

….and people thought Cristobal was a great recruiter. Lanning is better. Plus his offense won’t be so vanilla.

Home run hire thus far by Mullen’s.
