He seems to have lost some of his intensity and drive and energy. They probably told him to slow down but he needs to learn to go fast AND make the right decisions.Scoot's play is reminiscent of mood swings. He shows in flashes that he can be a great finisher and fairly pure shooter, but then he air balls a layup or badly clangs several jumpers in a row, or throws the laziest of passes. I think it all comes down to focus. Billups has to figure out how to get Scoot to stay in attack mode while running the offense in controlled fashion, so he doesn't continue having those careless stretches.
If people just let the process happen and gave the kid a chance and we're patient, it would be a better place. But noooooo. Lots of folks want to say he is garbage and other folks want to pound their chest after 1 good game pwning the haters. This thread is gonna be funny....
Several good games: Hey maybe I was wrong!?!?
Several bad games: No I was right!
Several good games: Wait.... maybe I WAS wrong?

NahhhIt's almost like he's a very young and inexperienced player learning a very important and difficult position at the highest level in the world...
National media even thinks this dude is garbage
Posting his overall stats is so disingenuous. He's playing fewer minutes. Taking fewer shots. He's not starting. That's a horseshit take.
Has he been inconsistent? Yes.
But his stats ARE better overall.

Let’s go with at least one-all star appearanceDefine elite?
Let’s go with at least one-all star appearance
Id actually consider elite all-nba team appearances but that seems a bit lofty
edit: btw this same conversation extends to Shaedon, although his injury history complicates things slightly
yeah, he's probably marginally better this season, and contrary to whatshisname, he's coming off the bench, playing more with backups, and still having issues with Simons. I'd wonder if assigning a 20 year old PG the role of backup PG, locks him into a style of play that might not be the best for him
anyway, I guess I'm coming across as a Scoot defender lately. The thing is I've ratcheted down my expectations for Scoot a long ways from what they were before last season started. I am very skeptical he'll ever be an elite player. In fact, I'm skeptical he'd ever make an all-star game but it's pretty early to make that claim
Scoot is saddled with the same issue all the young guys are saddled with: playing with a dysfunctional roster that has rotations that don't make any fucking sense. The Blazers are featuring Simons-Ayton-Grant. Those guys dominate usage, shots, and minutes. Portland averages 90.5 FGA/game and that trio averages 46 FGA/game. More than half (51%). And considering that those 3 have sat out most the 4thQ's in about half of the games, their dominance of opportunities, that IMO should be going to others, is even more pronounced than the 51%
But his stats ARE better overall.
Not by much? Seems awfully close to where he was last season.
Specifically what?Look at the advanced stats I posted. Some of those are much better.
Those are Marginal at best. Nothing to hang your hat on there.
Again this is comparing to a last ditch tank set of games that he had carte blanch. Seriously Scooot has not improved much at all. Time for a bunch to realize this year is another learning year and he might not be a great pick. Good kid but maybe not worth the #3 and losing Lillard?the dozen games at the end of last season when Simons didn't play

averaged 17 & 8 while shooting 41% on three's. The turnovers were ugly but he's cut down on them, a little, this season
Total shooting going up .012% Really?

I wouldn’t even bother replying to Aldo, dude is a borderline troll and nothing good ever comes out of his mouth.Posting his overall stats is so disingenuous. He's playing fewer minutes. Taking fewer shots. He's not starting. That's a horseshit take.

I'm not arguing with those observations. Just making a circumstantial case for some hope. It's not like anybody taken after Scoot is standing out from the crowd

More people should just ignore his posts personally
Look at Billups’ 2nd year stats. Or even Giannis. Both Finals MVP. Scoot was ranked high in the draft for a reason. Patience.yeah, he's probably marginally better this season, and contrary to whatshisname, he's coming off the bench, playing more with backups, and still having issues with Simons. Let's give him a season of that.Again this is comparing to a last ditch tank set of games that he had carte blanch.

I wouldn't lean on either. I don't expect Scoot to be great. But I would like to give every opportunity so that we know for sure, sooner rather than later.Nope, conventional wisdom usually misses the mark. That would explain poor to mediocre overall play, not wild swings between All-Star potential and fringe rotational player. It's in his head, not his developing grasp of the game.
I feel like the same excuses were made for Zach Collins' early struggles: young and inexperienced, trying to learn the difficult big man game. The good ones figure it out quickly.
Exactly. He's lackadaisical when he slows down. And let's be honest, Billups was the king of methodical point guard play, so Scoot might be learning from the wrong guy. But, I'm about as confident that Scoot is the long-term answer as I am about Billups, so I'm not sure which of the two to lean on going forward.
