Eating Crow about Scoot

Yes, Scoot to this point has been disappointing for a #3 pick. People had high expectations for him pre-draft. But quite a few of these negative traits that we've seen over the past 2 seasons are not new. Here's what an insightful forum member posted pre-draft:

I think Henderson comes with a lot of red-flags:
- His PER was only 13.5. That's below average for the G-League.
- 3.5 turnovers and 3.3 fouls per game.
- Not only did he shoot 27.5% 3 pointers in the G-League regular season, he also only shot 46.5% for 2 pointers. That's not good efficiency.
- For being a point guard that facilitates scoring, he only had a 98 offensive rating. Combine that with a 122 defensive rating, one of the worst in the G-League.
- His G-League team only went 11-21, even though he has some solid talent on the team, including Leonard Miller.

As many have posted previously, Scoot is young. We all hope he pans out. But at some point, I think we have to recognize that the odds of him living up to that #3 pick become slimmer and slimmer each game...

Scoot is going to be just fine. He has all the tools. He just needs the support for putting in the right kind of work and the opportunity.

you want him to be making mistakes NOW and learning as weird as that sounds. He is the best passer on this team and sharing the ball is one of his biggest strengths.

nba fans are weird. Not a single mlb fan would take a dump on a rookie for not being an all star in his first several years.

Being Dame's replacement is a tough job to say the least but the kid had a hell of a game against the Jazz....if he can keep that confidence and put up those numbers with just 1 turnover, he'll get a ton of fan love...up until now though he has been pretty bad and I'm sure he knows it too. Maybe he's cracked the rookie wall.
 
The way I look at it, the best way to gauge any player is at age 23-24. That's the player they're going to be. That's four years of college and one year pro. They might increase their production a bit through their prime, but that's a bonus. So Scoot is essentially a sophomore in college right now. I don't think he's the number 3 pick yet, but we'll see.

Correct, just the good moments are far and few between yet not recognized on here. Not a word til I mentioned this.

Why should there be? This thread is about eating crow by those who thought Litle Scooter isn't a bust (relative to his draft position and expectations). The original poster is critical of him, so that was the intent.

Lighten up son. I couldn’t find the Scoot is a bust thread. This place gets to hating and it never changes. Billups gets murdered for EVERY lose and then crickets on a win. Same here with Scoot. 20 year old is getting killed constantly and when he plays well it’s hush hush time.

I'm glad you have incompetence on your mind, and where did you learn camera angles?
Did you take Geometry in high school, or some crappy neighborhood community college?
You know the obtuse angles, but if I were you I wouldn't use the term "acute angle."

Scoot will be good, if not great. Fun to watch him develop along with the rest of the players and team as a whole.

I actually agree that he'll be good. The years of delay is caused by a combination of his playful short attention span, and the coach.

You never read of Scooter saying after a game, "I learned that amazing move watching (player name) on film (or TV)." He hasn't added to the small repertoire of ordinary offensive moves he brought from high school.

Not everyone in this forum is as perfectly balanced as you and I, @THE HCP . We just have to learn to smile at the bi-polar nature of the common posters we have to put up with here in this forum.

With that said, Scoot may have had 19/6/5/4 with only 1 turnover, but those 2 missed free throws by Scoot on Saturday are a sure indication of a dark future for him. Am I right?

Absolutely correct!

That is a sure indicator he is not perfect and thus entropy will rule and his skills will increasingly decline.

If only he had made them, the future would look much brighter....
 
Over the last ten games Scoot is averaging (per 48) 21.6 points, 8.2 assists (3.4 TOs) and 5.6 rebounds (.1 more than Jerami). He's also shooting 11/35 from 3. Not bad!
His FT% is not amazing at 77%, but his FG% is his real weak spot at 37%
 
He's put together good games before, usually 2 or 3. His issue is keeping it up and not going from solid performance to being invisible on the court and not a detriment to the team.

He needs to string together 5-6 games in a row (or 5 out of 7 games) where he's playing like this. Not saying he has to scored 19 points and have 10 assists to 1 turnover type numbers though.

I think it needs to be a 20-30 game stretch as a gauge. His clunker rate has been 50-60%. That needs to drop to 10-20%. he doesn't need to have a great (for him) game rate of 60%. He just needs to cut way down on the terrible games. That's the first step to consistency

At this point, 5-6 is the step he needs to do, and then we can hope for a 20-30 game stretch.

I understand that. I'm just saying we need at least a 20-30 game sample size to gauge what kind of consistency is sustainable. We know he can have a great game every once in a while. What we don't know is how often he can have solid games compared to clunkers. The clunker rate has been way too high so far

And we won't know until he's given the reins...
 
Is Scoot going to play in the Rookie Sophomore game this year?
