1) Require all firearms to be registered and all sales to be registered.
2) Require ammunition sales to be only sold with ID and info documented.
3) A database so all sales of firearms and ammo can accessed by state and federal authorities.
4) Require the capability to secure each firearm under lock.
5) permit carry licenses however require ongoing training. (Something like 20 hours to get certified and 4 hours per month to maintain license)

That’s a start.

Should have guns physically inspected every 2 years, like a car registration as well. Just to keep database updated.

And to get illegal guns off the street, there should be sweeps and checkpoints in areas of high gun deaths and incidents.

This should be conducted by the military.

That is all lines fed to him by advisors. He was told to say all that, mostly during the election. Yet, he keeps using the same racist and violent rhetoric at his rallys and in his tweets. The far right is still part of his base. He needs them and once again after he has delivered a line or two about how he is against racists fed to him through a teleprompter he will send out more of his hateful tweets and spew all the racist bullshit he does, like that which led to the El Paso shooting.
You wrote that both sides need to disavow the far right and left. I posted many times that he has but no its not good enough. You just don't want to hear it.

his staff does damage control when he walks back his tweets ..these are just stop gap statements to water down the rage when he stirs it up amongst his fanbase.....bet it took a long time to find that many empathetic statements from his admin. most of them seemed to be during his campaign..
Not really, there's also many from back when he was a dem and they loved him. IIRC correctly Jesse Jackson gave him an award for hiring minorities and another for helping out inner city youth, Al Sharpton was butt smooching him, the Jewish Anti-Defamation League praised him for raising awareness re discrimination, back in the 90's spoke out often about David Duke etc.

He needs to disavow and stop the rhetoric. He "disavows" then continues the rhetoric, showing he doesn't mean it. It is a pattern that hasn't changed.

check out his history in the 70s before he hobnobbed his way into celebrity....he was an asshole then, he's an asshole now...sorry..I've never liked or trusted the guy..he'll do whatever to get what he wants, including switch teams and change his rhetoric....snake oil salesman...you're welcome to your opinion but what you posted is Trump spin from my view.

He's a businessman from Queens New York. Why is everybody so surprised at this? Of course he's been an asshole.

Most businessmen are assholes, even the ones you THINK are nice. You think Jeff Bezos, Bill Gates, or Warren Buffet are nice guys when it comes to business? What about Phil Knight, or the late Paul Allen or Steve Jobs? Nice guys don't get ahead. Assholes do. That's how they got to being at the top.

Trust me, I know, I was raised by one; a devout capitalist, lifelong businessman who came from nothing and worked his way up the ranks in the business world. And he had to be ruthless to do it; working in China, the Philippines, Malaysia, Singapore, Europe, and the Silicon Valley. Nice guys who want to get ahead don't survive in those places. Now that he's in his 60s and on the cusp of retiring, he's a bit out of touch, arrogant, elitist, and an asshole, like most people in high ranks of business. I love him dearly, but sometimes I want to pimp slap him into the next universe. Oh, and he's NO fan of Trump either. Hates the guy. But....he respects his business success.

99% of people in high ranks of business are assholes. That part of their personality is part of what makes them successful. And like him or not, Trump is successful. And don't give me that "but but but BANKRUPTCY!" bullshit either; he's a billionaire with 542 companies and products to his name. Again, like him or not, that takes a big level of success.

I didn't vote for him to be a nice guy. If anyone did, you bullshitted yourself. Greatly.

yeah...he's an asshole...a spoiled rich asshole...when I was young he tried so hard to be cool and had to buy friends to have those photo ops....Trump was always a strange guy...rich, whatever...Candice Bergen put it best....she thought he was good looking in the 70s and she was young and starting a career....for the whole date he didn't listen to a word she said and talked about how great he was without a break....Trump was the laughing stock of studio 54...even today it's amazing how many champions we have that refuse to go have his fast food celebrations at the WH.....it's baffling beyond reason to me that we are living in a country where he could ever have such an important job and spend it flinging bullshit insults at everyone he's supposed to work with governing..praising dictators and insulting our friends...Warren Buffett and I grew up in the same midwestern areas....I've heard him speak several times and shook his hand...he's not an asshole...he's a man of common sense and integrity...big difference

They have said so in the past.
I'm pretty sure that is the penalty if you are a felon in possession of a gun in Oregon.

And for the record @MARIS61 and @MarAzul are completely against this.

Again you deliberately distort.

What I have said is The Second Amendment as with the entire Bill of Rights says the right to bear arms comes with birth (NOT GRANTED BY THE GOVERNMENT) and cannot be taken, restricted, slowed down, charged a fee for, tracked, discouraged OR PREVENTED IN ANY WAY, SHAPE OR FORM BY the government. All government can Constitutionally do about the Right to Bear Arms is guarantee and support it fully. To do otherwise is tyranny.

Criminals who are convicted of violating Constitutional laws like theft or murder (NOT any laws pertaining to the simple bearing arms of any kind in any instance, as these are not Constitutionally valid laws but rather they are open tyranny) are considered to have forfeited some of their rights by their actions, as the Constitution allows government to restrict the rights of those who refuse to follow the Constitutional laws of the land, and
I have no problem with disarming convicted criminals and restricting any or all of their rights if appropriate while they serve their sentence.

Constitutionally, once a convict has served their sentence (not during) they should instantly regain all of their rights as American citizens.

So someone who served 10 or 50 years for murder and was released after serving his/her sentence should be given their gun back if it was confiscated.

If they make a bargain to give up certain rights as part of their punishment/sentence without being coerced to, that's their choice.

If someone is thought to still be a danger to society after completing their sentence, too bad. Legislate for harsher sentences or better yet actual rehabilitation programs such as Trump has been the first POTUS to do.

Anyone convicted of any law pertaining to the right to bear arms is not in any constitutional sense a criminal, but rather they are a political prisoner of a tyrannical government.

Glad I could clear that up for Sly, again.

LOL, right....

The ‘unfair advantages’
“[M]onopoly power and the unfair advantages it provides” is the driving force behind Buffett’s massive fortune, in Dayen’s view.

“Companies in Buffett’s portfolio have extorted windfall profits, ripped off taxpayers, and abused customers,” he says, adding that Buffett “makes no secret of his fondness for monopoly.
He repeatedly highlights the key to his personal fortune: finding businesses surrounded by a monopoly moat, keeping competitors at bay.”

Moat-wise, Buffett has said as much.

“If you’ve got the power to raise prices without losing business to a competitor, you’ve got a very good business,” Buffett once said. “If you’ve got a good enough business, if you have a monopoly newspaper or if you have a network television station, your idiot nephew could run it.”

And at a Berkshire Hathaway annual meeting back in 2000, he said that “we think in terms of that moat and the ability to keep its width and its impossibility of being crossed. We tell our managers we want the moat widened every year.”

Dayen also writes about the hypocrisy of Buffett’s pleas for tax fairness while he maintains a $22 billion stake in Apple AAPL, +1.89%, “perhaps America’s most notorious corporate-tax evader.” The iPhone maker is his third-biggest position, behind Wells Fargo WFC, +1.71% and Kraft Heinz KHC, -2.74% .

Nice guy indeed.

Buffett has similarly defended Wells Fargo, his largest single investment, through one damaging scandal after another. In 2016, the bank was caught signing up customers for around 3.5 million fake accounts. Since then, Wells Fargo has also been dinged for issuing clients unwanted insurance and home-warranty products, falsifying records to increase fees on mortgage applicants, overcharging foreign-exchange clients to ring up bonuses, initiating secret changes to mortgage terms for homeowners in bankruptcy, and repossessing the cars of service members while they were on active duty. The federal investigations and fines over this misconduct continue to roll in.

Millions have been harmed by this mix of rank incompetence and outright fraud. But with the five biggest commercial banks—Wells Fargo, Bank of America, Citigroup, JPMorgan Chase, and US Bancorp—controlling nearly half of all assets, as well as robust branch and ATM networks, it can be inconvenient or even impossible not to use their services.

Last August, Buffett called Wells Fargo “a terrific bank…. There were some things that were done very wrong there, but they are being corrected.” In October, he got tougher, blaming Wells Fargo’s board of directors for failing to “remove the stain” on the business and musing about clawing back five years of compensation. But Buffett had supported the same board members for reelection just months earlier. It resembled his decision in 2014 to criticize the board of Coca-Cola for excessive executive compensation, but to abstain from voting on the pay package. At the time, Buffett’s son Howard sat on Coke’s board.

In other words, while Buffett’s wealth and the media attention he attracts enable him to create change inside the boardroom, he takes virtually no responsibility as a major shareholder for the companies he invests in. “He’s following his wallet, not his conscience,” says David Nelson, chief strategist at Belpointe Asset Management.

I like this part...

Last August, Buffett called Wells Fargo “a terrific bank…. There were some things that were done very wrong there, but they are being corrected.”

Gee, sounds like something Trump would say, right?

Don't worry though. Trump has given a lot of speeches and shaken a lot of hands too.

ETA: For the record, I don't have an opinion about Warren one way or the other. But he's not a nice guy, unless you consider being a quiet asshole to be a nice guy.

Trump was the laughing stock of studio 54...Warren Buffett and I grew up in the same midwestern areas....I've heard him speak several times and shook his hand...he's not an asshole...he's a man of common sense and integrity...big difference

Riverman - "America's most infamous cokeheads and sex abusers whose infamous hangout went bankrupt after criminal investigations were not tee-totaling, straight as an arrow businessman Trump's friends."

Wow, what an "insult".

LOL at Candice Bergen. Dumber than her dad's puppets. No pun intended.

Warren Buffett is one of the most evil leeches in America, making his billions by crushing entire industries and ruining millions of American family's lives for money he will never be able to spend.

Even Trump was never this bad:

I dunno....maybe I missed someone throwing themselves out of Trump tower after being laid off or something....
Ok, but buffet, gates, Bezos, Jobs, PA(RIP), Balmer, Kroenke, etc are not the president and the discussion isnt about them. You can find dirt on all of them if you want too. Other guys being jerks doesnt excuse my actions. Other rich guys being jerks doesnt excuse Trumps either.

I agree about the New York disco scene completely....but you made my point....Trump wanted to be one of those celebs in the worst way..golf memberships and hookers get you a lot of washed up athletes as rented friends for a night....Trump just wanted to be Frank Sinatra and didn't have the talent to come close. He's left now with Dennis Rodman and the Baldwin brother nobody knows.

No, it doesn't, you are right. BUT....it IS reality. Some people can't accept reality or want to change it. Good luck with that.

America is a country of assholes. There are many beautiful, great things about this country, but 99% of the population are assholes. Just look on social media if you don't believe me....hell, look at this forum! If you ask me, it was only a matter of time before someone like Trump took the reigns.

I, for one, choose to accept reality, rather than screaming obscenities and denying it.

Im not sure I understand your, perspective on this. Your basically saying everyone sucks just accept it and move on, we cant change it, we cant do anything about it, thats reality.

So people are murderers, rapists, racists, bigots, etc, etc,. Thats reality everyone sucks, so lets just ignore it, accept it and vote them in for president because, “everyones doing it”.

While I certainly wouldnt expect someone who doesnt share my world views to comply with the life style I have chosen, I think its quite reasonable to not just turn a blind eye to everything someone does. Arent we at that point just excusing, and propagating bad behavior, especially when its supposed to be the leader of 330M+ of us?

So what. He was gifted money by daddy. He turned into more money and fucked over many to get there. So he’s “successful”? He’s a bad person. Period. Full stop. There’s a huge difference between being “tough” and being an asshole. I’ll take tough all day long. Being an unethical prick is not admirable.

Accepting it is one thing, supporting it is a whole nother kettle of fish.

I think your estimate of the % of assholes is way too high. I have met some of the asshole type of business people you mention, but I've also met many that are genuinely nice people who got ahead by being smart and working hard, not by screwing people.

The question is why anyone would want an asshole as president. The assholes see something of themselves in him, I suspect. I'm not sure why a non-asshole would ever want to elect an asshole. No matter what the %, we've all had enough interaction with assholes to last a lifetime, why add more?

1) No, you can't change it. There has been inequality, racism, bigotry, hatred, and assholes since ancient times. Do you honestly think that a leader is somehow going to make people change? No. There were still shootings and murder and racism in Lincoln's time, just as there was when Obama was in office. That is reality. My advice would be, broadly stated: don't waste effort on the bad, and focus on the good. Trying to change society rarely works, unless you are one of the greats, like MLK or Fred Rogers. But how many other MLK and Fred Rogers are there?

I mean, honestly, what is your other option? Riot and throw a shit flip every time you see someone in a MAGA hat? No thanks. Life is stressful enough without trying to change the dynamic of people. Live for yourself, and fuck everyone else.

Speaking for myself, I've learned to leave people alone, and they've left me alone in return. That's good enough for me. No sleep lost.

2) Nobody is propagating anything. I've not heard Trump once call for killing anyone. And I don't play "connect-the-dots logic", just like I don't believe in conspiracy theories. So I'm afraid I can't help you there.

Then you're not accepting anyone who has ever been in power, or has risen to the top. Because you are expecting a mythical person that doesn't exist.

99% of the country are assholes? Where the hell have you been living?

In reality. Go post your opinions on social media and watch shit fly if you don't believe me....Twitter should be good, in fact. I quit using it for specifically that reason. Or go protest or picket something and see how many negative reactions you get. The world is full of assholes. Whether it's a middle finger in traffic, or a President on a podium.

It baffles me that some of you don't get this. Where have you been for the past decade or two? This country is more crowded, stressed out, and crazy than ever before. Now you're surprised that we have an asshole president? Why is this news to some of you?

This isnt adding up. On one hand your saying its always been that way, on the other your saying its getting worse. On one hand your saying leaders have always sucked, then you point to a few who didnt.

Connecting the dots is literally logic at it’s core, you cannot make a logical conclusion if you cannot look at separate pieces of evidence and put them together. If you’re saying bad behavior is absolutely acceptable because thats just the way things are you are indeed propagating and encouraging it.

I will not accept that well a lot of leaders have sucked, so I should just accept it and not look for a good leader.

Social media is still not 99%. And the comments section of a post isn’t exactly made up of a bunch quality people. To log in and post and complaint, you are only to go through the trouble if you’re pissed
