Without breaking the rules like BNM did..

Hey, I provided my answer, within the rules. I just disagreed that BGrant should be listed as a center and that error screwed up my preferred choices.

BNM

$5 Dame
$5 Walton
$2 CJ
$2 Kersey
$1 Buck

We stay healthy, we win titles.

Hopefully, we get something close to that this year (or next) with:

Dame
Nurk
C.J.
Mo
Swanigan

Nurk could end up being a poor man's Walton with a similar well rounded, 2-way game. If only Mo had Kersey's motor and fearless attitude. Swanigan has the motor and rebounding, and a more well rounded offensive game than Portland Buck, but his defense is the question. Defense was never a question with Buck.

Substitute Vonleh for Swanigan, and you get the defense, but loose the energy and the offensive versatility.

Wouldn't Petrie ($3) and Pippen ($1) be a better $4 wing combo than CJ/Kersey?

Kersey is on the floor for slashing, defense, hustle, rebounding and the fact that he would run through a wall for his teammates. Pip nor Petrie would/could do that.

If you've already got Buck and Walton, rebounding is covered. Pippen--even late career Blazers Pippen--was a better defender than Kersey, and provides shooting, passing, and ball-handling that Kersey can only dream of, plus a general BBIQ and floor presence that elevates the entire squad.

I think it was the "running through a wall for teammates" that he was focusing on. That's at least the sense I got.

It's Pip. I get it. I just LOVE Kersey.
Understandable. He's easily my favorite guy from those early 90's squads (looking back, that is--at the time it was Terry, but views evolve).

RIP Jerome.

Petrie, was an inefficient volume scorer on some really bad teams (we're talking 18 to 21 wins). He played in the era before the 3-point shot, but even his 2FG% wasn't that impressive. He scored a lot because he shot a lot. He only lasted 6 years the NBA and never played on a winning team or made the post season.

C.J. is a MUCH better shooter and an absolute steal at $2. Hell, I'd still take C.J. over Petrie even if their salaries were reversed. Even if you ignore C.J.'s elite 3-point shooting (which you can't in today's NBA), he has a far better career 2FG% (.481) than Petrie (.455) and is a far better FT shooter (.844 vs. .805). C.J.'s 23.0 ppg on 18.0 FGA as the 2nd option on a playoff team is far more impressive to me than Petrie's 24.9 ppg on 22.8 FGA as the first option on a 21-win team.

It would be breaking the rules explicitly, since the post said you couldn't move guys.

Which makes little sense especially today, since postionless basketball is more and more of a thing.

Yet, the author moved Brian Grant to center - a position he never actually played in Portland.

In fairness, many of the 14 games he started in 2000 were basically in place of Sabas. But yes, your point is valid that he was primarily a PF.

I don't get why anyone would choose a PF over Buck at a buck.

That's the biggest steal of all.

Ha. I thought Pippen at a buck was the biggest steal. I realize he wasn't Chicago Pippen, but he was still damned good.

Of course, I'm a pretty big Pippen homer, so there's that.

All right guys, don't roast me over an open fire because I posted something BE. I thought this would be a fun little game in the doldrums of waiting for Melo to accept coming here and something to talk about and discuss the reasons for the team you have chosen. I especially look forward to hearing the thought processes of @BonesJones, @Boob-No-More, @SlyPokerDog, @Orion Bailey, @Schilly, @Denny Crane, @KingSpeed and @Scalma to name just a few.

My picks would be:

Lilliard($5)
Roy($4)
Pippen($1)
Buck($1)
Sabonis($4)

You have offensive scoring all over the court with all five guys.

•Three point shooting with Dame, Roy, Pippen and Sabonis.
•Pick and Pop/Roll that is interchangeable with all five guys.
•Post-up and paint scoring with Buck, Pippen, and Sabonis.
•Slashing with Dame, Roy and Pippen.
•Paint and rim protection with Buck and Sabonis.
•Perimeter defense with Pippen and Sabonis(and when he wanted to, Roy.)

That's mine. Who is going to be next?
Fuck you for not mentioning me specifically bioootch. I'm not going to play your game.

Ok, I'll play

Yes, Pippen was underrated as a Blazer.

Shawn Kemp $0
Buck Williams $1
Dame Dolla $ 5
Clyde Drexler $5
Arvydas Sabonis $4
