it’s like the opposite of Morey, got to hope this wasn’t a premature deal where if he had held off we would have gotten a better deal. Crossing my fingers there’s a better deal in the works

If this move helped the Clippers a ton because the other 28 teams were drooling over Norm and Cov, they wouldn't be laughing at us, they'd be pissed we didn't take their significantly better offer.

Cronin may be worse than Olshey. Just like Billups may be worse than Stotts. Time will tell on both.

What there is zero doubt about is Olshey put values on players than the rest of the league has balked at. He saw Cov as worth two 1st round picks. Clearly we couldn't get one for him 1.5 seasons later. He saw Collins as worth two 1st round picks. The rest of the league saw him as worth part of the MLE, unprotected. Crabbe, Festus, Turner, Trent/Powell, Meyers, Whiteside, Bazemore... the list goes on and on.

He made enough of these bad moves and collected so many negative assets and now the next guy has to keep the bad asset until it's gone or get worse talent in return to wipe the slate clean sooner.

Certainly possible. Though for that to be true we'd have to assume:

1. No team has called Portland in 3 months
2. Cronin has a motive, in his one and only audition, to take a deal he felt was bad to insure he never gets a GM job in the future.

If we can come up with a likely explination for both those things to be true, I'd consider your theory. At this point, neither seem probable at all.
