First Round Game 4: Blazers @ Rockets Thread

excuses excuses. He's played a year of pro ball and he still hasn't figured out what the refs call as a foul?? why haven't the coaches taught him how to stay in the game? or why hasn't he learned?
dude, quit posting..because im sure the next time oden hits a hook shot, he'll be the next kareem right?

A) It wasn't Zach's first year. It was the first year he got substantial minutes.

B) We were down 3-0, inserted Zach into the starting lineup, won three straight, went up 2 going into the 4th quarter of Game 7 and lost it.

Bad example as we were robbed by the refs that series.

We were up and in control. Sabas was killing Dallas, then in the 4th he was given 2 quick phantom calls and fouled out.

It went downhill from there.

But we did win 3 in a row and that's all we need right now.

Our players now are younger but very talented and confident.

And we have an actual real coach this time around.

I still like our odds in a world where refs are legitimate.

The Blazers shooting poorly in games 1 and 2 have a lot to do with the overall rebound total of the series.

Yes. And in critical times tonight we were letting them get multiple second chance points. Sorry, that was crap. You see the rockets and you've got to realize we need to play more low post offense. We need to set the pace of the game. They are a better jump shooting team than we are and that's what it comes down to.

I still think the Blazers have an OK chance to win the series. 2 of the last 3 games are at home. With Porltand almost winning both games in Houston, they could very well take game 6.

Hopefully the refs oblige.

Ok but the Blazers still made adjustmentes. It's obvious considering they played much better in game 4 compared to game 3.

Good effort by all but Rudy gets only 5 attempts, and Blake and Roy lost their legs again down the stretch.

Some Sergio to start the 4th would have been a big help to them at the end.

So simple, so obvious.

Proven effective over an 82 game season.

Yes...Not playing Sergio was the reason we lost.

Brilliant, why didn't I think of it earlier?

You claim you actually watch games, but how does that work with one of these?

Great. So I have to look forward to a career of it being the refs' fault. A career of it being someone else's fault. That will be fun.

lol yes, apparently Yao is SO AMAZING that he got fouled 9 times by our two centers while only committing one himself in 44 minutes. Unbelievable. Yeah Yao never got in foul trouble in the regular season or anything..................

I really despise teams like Houston. They're not going to win a title this year. They're not even going to come close. Assuming they win this series, they'll be gone fishing in 5 games (6 at most) in round two. They're mostly filled with stars of yesteryear who think they're still good and relevant, but everyone knows they don't stand a chance. I'd put the two other Texas teams in this category along with a few others.

For the second straight game, officiating is the story of the night AND Portland gets called for more fouls than Houston in the DOUBLE DIGITS. Ridiculous. Mother. Fucking. Ridiculous.

God damn this one burns. Just think if we had EVEN officating this series, we'd be up 3-1.

So would your opinion still be the same about the officiating if the Blazers had won tonight?

Before the playoffs started, I said it would be "long and painful but the Blazers will win in 7." Looks like we've gotten through the painful part. Now it's time for the long and winning part.

Portland will not be allowed to win. After the first two fouls on Joel I knew the officials would decide the game. And they did. It will be no different in the next game.

I feel like a dupe for actually paying money and investing time in this league. Not at all sure if I want to do so any more.

Not all of the calls were against Portland either. The officials totally controlled the tempo and flow of the game from start to finish.

First Quarter: Make calls that put Portland in the penalty early. Don't make any calls that go Portland's way.

Second Quarter: Substitute Houston for Portland and repeat First Quarter.

Third Quarter: Allow both teams to go on mini runs, but make sure the game is close.

Fourth Quarter: More of the same. Make sure the last few calls go Houston's way so as to ensure their victory.

I am disgusted with the NBA.

Perhaps I will feel differently tomorrow and will place my head in the sand for yet another game.

I would still feel like a fucking moron for actually watching this scripted horseshit. I feel as though the player's action are meaningless in the playoffs. It has ruined the excitement for me completely.

Great. So I have to look forward to a career of it being the refs' fault. A career of it being someone else's fault. That will be fun.

Of course he's got to learn to stop fouling so much and there are nights when it clearly is his fault, but if you can't see that there were at least two (maybe three) very questionable calls against him tonight then I just don't think you actually watch the games with an objective eye -- it's either he's Bill Russell, or he's Kwame Brown with you.

I'm still pissed about when Greg was in the post working on Yao and Yao hits Oden's arm and Greg loses the ball and no call. Absolutely brilliant.

Call it both ways you fucking cock sucking refs.

i think the blazers lost this game because joel playing the final 6 or so minutes let the rockets keep roy out of the lane. the rockets didn't have to worry about joel and just closed off the paint and the blazers couldn't get good offense without roy being able to get in the paint. i would have preferred to see oden or rudy in the game instead of joel. i mean what were they saving oden for? he had 5 fouls. make the refs foul him out. a few more minutes out of him would be better than just keeping him on the bench and the added attention that a huge athletic guy who can attack the rim on pick and rolls and actually be a post threat and who is a great offensive rebounder would have helped give roy an easier time getting to the paint(or would lead to easy buckets for oden). rudy in there instead of joel would have opened up the floor as the rockets couldn't have afforded to leave anyone open and aldridge can do just as good of a job or better than joel at denying yao the ball. either one of those options would have allowed roy a lot more freedom offensively and really wouldn't have made much of a difference defensively.

the officials didn't decide anything tonight. let's stop with that bullshit.

oden and joel got called for some bad fouls. they were bad calls and should have been no calls. the calls went the rockets way early on in the game. the 3rd quarter, the calls swung in the blazers favor and they were able to cut into the rockets lead and eventually actually able to build a lead of their own. the calls did not favor anyone in the 4th. the players who were put on the floor decided the game, not the refs. the blazers had multiple chances and failed to win this game.

Rudy with another paltry 23 minutes. Geezus.... one of our biggest offensive threats when we need offense can't see time on the floor.

Fouls called: Portland 27, Houston 18

I'm so fucking depressed right now, this really reminds me about how low the lows can get by being a fan.. but the highs are great when they happen. I just hate this feeling of feeling like shit after having a realistic chance of being up 3-1 in the series.

when posting those foul numbers don't forget about the 4 intentional fouls at the end of the game.

It was 3 fouls, which is still 24-18. And Scola was the only Rocket with more than 2 fouls called. We had five players with more than 2 fouls called on them. Yao with 1 foul... haha right.

I hate blaming the refs, but damn, such a discrepancy. Just so heartbreaking not to win that game.

Game 5 should be all about hurting people. If we're going to go out, go out swinging. Fall on Yao's knee.... kick Battier in the balls.... punch Wafer in that big mouth of his.

lol, hater. Wafer seems to be backing it up, though. 4-8 from field, including 3-3 from 3pters :pimp:

I'm disgusted. That game was ours and we gave it right back. Houston is a team of chokers and we make them look like Champions.

I don't care what the numbers say--we're the superior team. But because Nate won't stick up for our players, Houston is allowed to get away with murder and because we let them outwork us, we're likely going to lose this series.

If Houston is a team of chokers, Blazers must be super-chokers. And I dont know who is telling you Blazers are the superior team. I've read someone else say "if .... we might end up losing to a team we have twice as much talent than" ... no way, our players are more experienced and more well-known around the league for what they do.

you're right. it was 3. looking back at the play by play to count i accidentally counted the roy offensive foul as well.

however, you are not right that the refs decided the game in any way.

I don't think the refs ultimately decided it, but I'm tired of all this ticky-tack crap with Greg and Joel getting called for questionable fouls when it's the playoffs. The continual looks on Greg and Joel's faces of "what the hell?" after getting whistled for breathing on Yao is tiring.

And then seeing our guys continually get hand-checked and grabbed, and having their progress impeded several times, and not getting that called is bullshit.

Just a bad chain of events in that fourth quarter from bad execution, untimely turnovers yet again, and seeing our guys get shoved made for a depressing end.
