Re: Ridiculously Expensive Agency

does Morey's recent draft and the Howard play and now Asik smack of desperation?

Whether guard Goran Dragic stays in Houston - or leaves for Phoenix, Toronto, or elsewhere - he needs to know he's the starter, sources say.

Re: Now what? i.e. Free Agency

By the time we meet with Gordon on July 5th, Nic's cap hold will probably be replaced with a 10-12 million dollar contract (assuming we match). I wonder if Gordon is a fall back plan for us and we are talking to more guys as well.

No. It won't. Clock starts no earlier than the 11th. Teams can meet, negotiate, and even agree to terms during the 10 day moratorium, but NOTHING--including RFA offer sheets--can actually be signed until 12:01 on 7/11. We will have until 7/14, minimum, to match whatever offer Nic's @$$hole agent gets him.

Re: Ridiculously Expensive Agency

Have a feeling little will come out of FA for the Blazers when it's all said and done

After Houston tonight, Blazers GM Neil Olshey will meet with Chicago center Omer Asik and make him an offer, sources tell Y! Sports.

Hopefully, the only thing Olshey offers him is a plane ticket back to Houston.

Re: Ridiculously Expensive Agency

I like it just as long as it's not a dumb offer.

A defensive minded center and a stopgap until Leonard is ready for prime time.

well if HOU really offer an average of 8 mil per the convo with Neil will likely be very abbreviated if it happens at all

Re: Ridiculously Expensive Agency

So we are offering Asik more then $8mil per?

Oh yeah, duh. Well, no harm in meeting with Gordon then.

Re: Ridiculously Expensive Agency

The offer can be normal for us, and it would just be backloaded for Chicago.

Blazers not among teams said to be visiting with Nash. Dream of subletting my place to @ESPNSteinLine crumbling.

Re: Ridiculously Expensive Agency

Amico

While some teams pursuing Steve Nash expected Portland to join the race, sources say the Blazers aren't in that hunt.

Re: Ridiculously Expensive Agency

Asik is a pretty fantastic defensive player and great rebounder, even if he's not productive offensively. I'd say that a reasonable comp would be a young Przybilla.

Just checked the advanced stats, and I was surprised by his rebounding percentages (over 25% Dreb%, over 20% Reb%). Very impressive, especially for a 2nd year player. Good win share figures too. I guess maybe he would be a good pickup after all.

But not for $8M/year.

Przybilla was a little better offensively, if you can believe that, and blocked shots a little more, but Asik is a better rebounder. I like Asik, I just wouldn't want to over pay for him. How much do you think he's worth? What was Przybilla's contract like when he was 25?

Re: Ridiculously Expensive Agency

Asik is the 66th ranked free agent according to Hoopshype!

But one league source said to expect Minnesota, Cleveland and Toronto to chase Batum vigorously.

Bayno LOVES Nic!

Re: Ridiculously Expensive Agency

So does Monty, they're still eyeing him.

To clarify, a Portland contingent is meeting with Omer Asik tonight, but Olshey was meeting with a different player, source tells Y! Sports.
