Why is everyone so obsessed with Siakam? The dude is out 6 months with shoulder surgery...no ones mentioned this? Out until atleast November, likely Dec.

https://www.raptorshq.com/2021/6/11...-raptors-pascal-siakam-shoulder-surgery-rehab
cuz he's a two way forward who can give us the length and versatility we desperately need? And whose talent is about on par with CJ's?

We can sustain an injury to Siakam for two months without much issue. As long as he's back by mid season, it really is meaningless.

A CJ for Siakam trade is sitting right there to balance that.

Dame / Simons
Norm / McLemore
DD / Little
Siakam / ?Millsap?
Nurk / Zeller

Jesus, so much skill and versatility.

It's so freaking obvious. Now we need to convince Olshey that that's a good exchange, and need to find a 3rd team to send CJ to (NO struck out on everyone, and need a lead guard in the worst way).
Big,Big,Big,Big move coming, it's gunna be yugeeeeee. Big,Big, move, the very biggest.

They may be going after him, but it don't mean they will get him. How do you know the Blazers aren't talking to GM's around the league right this minute. Man! i almost wish the Blazers would hire a spin doctor to put bogus trade runs out there to appease you & others. Like Blazers making a run at Ingram, Or Blazers hot on Simmons heels. How 'bout Blazers looking to trade for Bam.
I’m sure they are talking to GMs, however I base most of my Neil opinions on facts and the facts are he has continued to fail at constructing a well balanced team around a top 10 NBA player, he has failed at drafting players who can help this team win now, he has failed at landing ANY impactful FAs, he has failed at creating an environment where his best player feels stable with the direction of the franchise. Neil is about the most mediocre GM I can think of. Our best players aren’t in their mid 20s, if there was ever a time to go for it it’s now, who gives a fuck if it doesn’t work out, I’d rather gamble on a chance at getting better than going into a season knowing we aren’t good enough from day 1.

Is Dame and CJ contract handcuffed us on signing players? Sorry don’t know about cap space but how is the Warriors can afford Curry, Thompson and Green? Sounds like we become a poverty team.
I don't think anyone answered this for you but Dame and CJ who have the same strengths and weaknesses making 70M which is 50% of the way to the luxury tax doesn't help anything. More importantly the way a team like the Warriors has guys like Steph, Klay and Dray but then seemingly keep adding other high priced pieces to them is because they are smart. They got all of those guys on rookie deals and had expensive players around them. Instead of letting those expensive players walk they traded them for multiple players on medium salaries that might have gotten better and they'd have bird rights to. So they were then able to sign those players to lucrative deals and then move them when it made sense.

Making sure you have a stable of players with bird rights and medium sized contracts that don't suck, instead of renting everyone that isn't a starter is how you achieve the ability to add as much salary as you want. These other GMs are thinking about positioning their teams to win any season the opportunity might arise in the future. Neil is just reacting to everything like a dumb animal.

has it been confirmed that Zeller got the minimum?

and yeah, the era of C's appears to be long dead

There is more evidence than it's the min than it being a TPMLE. But until the roster is finalized, I guess we won't know for sure.

the irony of that is the first line of the song: "everything is going your way"....exactly the opposite of the Olshey era
I'm not defending Olshey or the lack of upgrade options that he's stuck the team with. That said, you've gotta pick your moments to trash him more judiciously. Whether or not he can pull off a trade of CJ for an upgrade at SF or PF isn't related to potentially signing a backup PF.

Has this ever happened before? Usually Woj has all the contract details in the first tweet. This feels very deliberate.

I agree on his free agency record. Not good. But his trades have worked out for the most part(Plumlee,Nurk,Kanter, Hood,RoCo,Powell), except that awful Will Barton trade for AAA. He has been able to retain the best talent on the team, sans LaMarcus, who was hell bent on leaving. But i also agree that it's chips all in time.

so then, on one hand, if he was signed for the tax-MLE it was a highly questionable use of the exception

and if he wasn't, then as more and more players are being signed for the exception, that too begs the question of what Neil is thinking

noooo

Come on, olshey. Take a freaking risk. Show one ounce of creativity.

All of the deals that came with the "one-year deal" verbiage have been vet mins except for JaVale's which had a number on it. So yes, it's happened, a lot. That's why I'm more inclined to believe this is also a one-year min deal.

Plus, he's getting most of this stuff from the agents. If the agent negotiated a higher contract, they would want that number out there for the public. Only reason to not disclose the number is if it's a minimum.

I dunno where Zach Harper got his numbers. It's probably wrong. Or, as some have mentioned, Zeller has agreed for the minimum, but they could give him some of the MLE if they can't find anyone else.

Last year when Melo signed, no one knew what the contract was when it was announced. Everyone speculated it was the BAE and it turned out to be the minimum.

Sounds like we tried to get Batum and/or OPJ and were rebuffed.

Blasphemy. We need to sit on our hands and cheer on Olshey and be patient. Then, when he doesn't do anything we need to give the team a chance to prove doubters wrong. Then, when we still are a first round team and Dame gets traded, somehow these people will call Olshey a genius and say it was a part of his plan.

Olshey has gots to go.

lol at the thought Neil would trade some firsts for DeRozan, when he's got his buddy CJ on the team

Even wouldn't mind Ingles tbh as a precursor to a Siakam move. He can initiate offense also when Dame gets trapped.

Dame/Norm/Ingles/Siakam/Nurk is a really good mix of skills and defense.

I wish we could somehow home send out CJ and Jones and bring back Smart and Derozan then sing Millsap with vet MLE.

not a perfect team but much more balanced.

Lillard/Simons
Powell/Smart
Derozan/Little
Covington/Millsap
Nurkic/Zeller

in the Olshey era, it's always deja vu all over again

I mean, this last season was not the first time Portland has had an epic playoff failure. And after each failure, it is always:

1) big moves happen during the draft

2) then it's: big moves happen during the first days of free agency

3) then it's: big moves happen just before & during training camp

4) then it's: big moves happen early in the season when teams get a sense of their roster

5) then it's: big moves happen during the all-star break

6) then it's: big moves happen at the trade deadline

then, for Portland, when nothing big ever happens and the Blazers fail again in the playoffs it's a re-set of the 'be patient and wait for steps 1-6' clock.

CJ for Smart/Williams/Salary Fillers

DJJ/1st for DD

Dame/Smart
Norm/Simons
Derozan/Nas
RoCo/Williams
Nurk/Zeller

Sure sign me up.

NO thinks his lineup is the ~best in the league, so why change it? Still no backup vet PG. Still trying to make Norm a 3. The 3 guard lineup won't work. Can't imagine Billups will use it. So who has to sit?

I think part of the Billups hiring is that he IS on board with the 3-guard lineup.

This guy is better than McLemore

Pretty sure Zeller is a min now.

Scratch that. Oh shit, is Zeller also 5M?
