I'm not a fan of the DDR S&T, but this would have been interesting.

Is this sign and trade rule true? Could this be why Portland hasn’t used their MLE yet?

  • The receiving team cannot have used the so-called "taxpayer mid-level exception" in that season.

Interesting. If so who’s the target? K Leonard is the only unsigned player who leaps to mind that would make this at all interesting and he’d of course have to agree. Any other targets people can come up with?

Markkanen is interesting because we could probably match the money without giving up CJ.

i don't really care for the fit because i want an athletic defender, and lauri is really a C.

but he's a better pick and pop threat than anyone dame has had outside of Aldridge. he's who Olshey hoped Zach would be, sans the elite rim protection. And as you say, we might get him for DJ + a pick even with a BYC.

and we know how much Neil likes to get guys who played well against him.

I have to believe that Neil is working on a Ben Simmons deal. After last season, he has to know that CJ and Ant absolutely can not play backup PG. With Simmons, he can definitely play the PG minutes when Dame is out.

This is the only reason that can explain why he hasn’t signed some viable backup PG guys like Hart or Jackson.

They're really not...

We have Lillard (for now). But then after that it’s not close.

Ball/White (20 yr old promising talent)
Lavine/Caruso
DeRozan/Thaddeus Young/Dosonyu
Markannin/Patrick Williams (19 year old)
Vucevic/Felicio?

Lavine, DeRozan and Vucevic are all better than our Robin (CJ).

We obviously have the advantage in Lillard. Nurk and Vucevic are comparable in terms of what they bring. DeRozan and Lavine are legit scorers. They are way deeper. Even their young guys look promising.

Hart and Oubre are interesting. Not needle moving, but interesting.
I actually think it would be needle moving. Hart has incredible tenacity, and a nice game at both ends. For whatever reason Oubre didn't work out in GS. But he had a real good year with Phoenix the year before. I think he would be super motivated to prove those teams wrong.

And both can defend.

if we can get him without CJ (are people thinking MLE or sign and trade?) and play him at center we might have something there.

trade **up to** CJ + Little+ Ant+ 1sts for Simmons + Curry. You can send DJJ and a pick to Chicago in S&T or do whatever cap space voodoo to get this done but I like the lineup.

Dame/Curry/Simmons
Powell/McLemore/Elleby/Curry
Simmons/Snell/Brown
RoCo/Zeller/Brown
Nurk/Markkanen

With that lineup you can guarantee 3-4 shooters around Simmons at all times.

They didn’t even make the play-in in East. Ball and DeRozen aren’t saviors. They actually got worse when Vucevic signed. Blazers are much better. You’re just tired of watching them.

Ball and DeRozan are great acquisitions. Vucevic getting there is too small a sample size. They’ll be top 4 in the East.

I’ll never get tired of watching the Blazers. We haven’t done a damn thing to get better this off-season though. We’re pissing away Lillard’s prime. It’s sad really.

You think Hart + CJ compares to Cj for Simmons or Siakam in terms of needle moving meaning getting into contention? I actually really like both those guys. I just don’t see us winning anything with CJ next to Dame. Or are you saying adding them and then another trade involving CJ? I like Oubre and Hart quite a lot I just don’t see them vaulting us into contention.

I was going to tell you all to keep an eye on Australian 4/5 Jock Landale during the Australia v USA game, but it's too late, he's signed with the Spurs.

LOL No way Chicago is top 4 lol. Milwaukee, Brooklyn, Miami, Atlanta, and Philly have CLEARLY superior rosters. And don’t discount Boston. There’s no one on the Chicago roster as good as Tatum or Brown. Bulls have chance at play-in, I guess.

John Collins is still holding out on Atlanta, supposedly going to reject the 5 year 125 million deal that was offered (per Jake Fischer). I imagine he still ends up in Atlanta but I wonder if there's an opportunity to snag Bogdanovic (if Atlanta is looking to cut costs) or help San Antonio clear space for him (taking on Thad Young and dumping DJJ + a pick to clear salary).

I think Bogdanovic for CJ would be an upgrade (in some sort of three way) with respect to defense and size at least.

I don't think Markkanen is coming back, and they traded Thad Young for Derozan... Dosunmu is a combo guard, not a SF. Derozan is not better as a #2 than C.J. as he is worse off the ball. CJ is a better scorer and a similar defender and passer (Derozan just got the privilege of running everything in San Antonio).

Lillard >> LaVine
McCollum > Derozan
Nurkic = Vucevic
Powell > Ball
Covington > Williams
Simons = Caruso
Little = White
Zeller > Dosunmu

To the Olshey defenders who say the improvement will not come through free agency, where is THE trade? WHERE ??? I can’t see it
Improvement will certainly not come through free agency. Regardless of what happens with trades, we know free agency will not give us significant gains.
