Your math is wrong.
Just one thing is wrong with it the fucking dead money from Nichols. Which is another 2.9ish. So we're not into the tax at this minute but signing Brown to his deal and getting another vet would mean we'd be into the tax.

I could be wrong but I think the Blazers are about 2M below the line. But that may be without factoring Brown's contract...not sure

I'm going to put on the tin-foil hat I put on 8 weeks ago and got hammered for:

if the Blazers are trying to stay out of the tax and if they don't use the TPMLE or make a big trade that puts them in the tax....well then, if I saw a team that was not so subtly trying for force their star player to demand a trade, and compared that team to Portland....I don't see a difference

What Olshey has done since the Denver series and what Seattle is allowing Olshey to do (or instructing) almost seem designed to trigger that Dame trade demand

Maybe they are trying to run the Blazers into the ground so bad, Portland turns its back on the team and they can move it to Seattle.

It's crazy the state of the Blazers right now feels so apocalyptic. It's depressing to watch all the name brand players go elsewhere while the Blazers get the store brand players.

It's disappointing because Neil was supposed to go all in to keep Dame. Maybe he has sold Dame on having more space for FA next season to bring in a third star.

IDK. Not really liking what I am seeing. Trying to be patient though and hoping Neil isn't done. That we use our TLMLE and make a big trade.

I look at these moves, and I can't help but wonder what the fuck is the plan here? It just feels like the same stuff Neil does every year. We are just a little in the tax this time.

all fine in theory, but this problem is only with fans in these smaller cities where players don't want to play.

the league will never implement it, however. the revenues/interest among casuals/ viewership all increased in the era of superteams. the general fan who has no rooting interest in any particular team will tune in and watch GS with 4 all NBA players over Milwaukee with Giannis. The data is there to back this up.

The league wants this.

The MLB has competitive balance picks with regard to the draft. There are a certain number of slots every year and qualifying small markets are chosen by lottery I believe and ordered by w/l record after the teams are picked.

Multiple people have run through the math. We are in the tax at this moment without a deal.

Damian Lillard $39,344,900
CJ McCollum $30,864,198
Robert Covington $12,975,471
Jusuf Nurkic $12,000,000
Norman Powell 16M est
Derrick Jones $9,720,900
Anfernee Simons $3,938,818
Andrew Nicholson (W) $2,844,429
Nassir Little $2,316,240
CJ Elleby $1,517,981

Zeller 1.7M
McLemore 1.7M
Snell 1.7M

Brown .9M

my math says about 137M...so yeah...over the tax line

And the apron is at 143, is that right? So in theory, we could trade DJJ in a S&T, and bring in someone making 14 or so and fit it under the apron with another minimum addition. Not that there's guys out there that fit that bill well.

Off the top of my head, Thad Young is $14M. Also, Marcus Smart would work if Ant or Nas were added (but I think the Celtics would need a true PG).

If Neil thinks that's how he's going to get another star, he's even dumber than I thought.

Yeah, all the 1 year contracts seem to point that direction though. Throwing shit at the fan this season and maybe going all in next season.

Maybe trade CJ this season and go all in the rest of the way next season?

yeah...I'd think the math is there, and the Blazers could even leave some margin to add 10-days or a mid-season buy-out (pro-rated) while staying under the apron. And it would go to explain not using the TPMLE. And looking at who is still available, that TPMLE won't have much impact

it would limit flexibility at the trade deadline...some. But it's probably pretty simple to find ways to send out more salary than comes back

Nah. Neil knows his days are numbered. I predict this being his last season unless the Blazers make some significant noise in the post season. He won't wait until the season to move CJ. It's going to happen very soon.

I like the idea, but how do you determine who gets how much handicap?

It’s split the same way as revenue sharing. Similar analysis. Just adding in various additional revenue sources for nba related money earned. I’ve been saying what this guy is saying for like 15 years especially about FL TX taxes.

if the Blazers receive a player in a S&T, they'd be hard-capped. I don't think that's a situation Portland would consider

as for the TPE in the situation like you describe, I'm pretty sure the Blazers would not have a 20M TPE, but rather a couple of 10M TPE's

Damian Lillard $39,344,900
CJ McCollum $30,864,198
Robert Covington $12,975,471
Jusuf Nurkic $12,000,000

Take a look at @wizenheimer's math... subtract the Brown contract... that puts us under the tax. It's a moot point because we have to sign at least one more player. Brown would be the cheapest we could and by both my math and @wizenheimer which are exactly the same that puts us into the tax.

You keep saying multiple people have run it but just go to https://www.spotrac.com/nba/portland-trail-blazers//cap use a calculator and we are where I'm saying we are. The people who said we were ~3M under were just forgetting our dead cap ammount.

If he knows this is going to be his last season if he fucks the pooch so to speak, why isn't he doing his best to go all in? Is this his best? Yeesh

I don't think he's really gotten started yet. None of the names we're interested in have been moved. You gotta relax, bro. Lol I actually like his strategy by letting the money dry up.

Saying all that, I'm not a fan of the free agents but I'm not really supposed to be. They are minimum guys who shouldn't get too much action during the season.

this has always been the non-conspiracy conspiracy. It’s so obvious no one wants to see it. Stern figured it out. What needs to be prevented is the Stern-era, less-admitted for obvious reasons, refereeing conspiracy which was also so obvious Ralph Nader called it out. The Silver era has had its faults but it’s been much better.

Which makes them wrong LOL. You Henry Abbott here? Like what are we arguing?
Just do the math dude. If you're saying spotrac is wrong and you have a more accurate balance sheet... just point me in that direction but if your taking someone else's word for it when the numbers are right there for you to add up... how on earth would you have any ground to stand on. If a weather man says it's not raining but I go outside and it is... it's fucking raining.

I’m done here.

This is my thing... nothing has happened with Siakam, Simmons, hell even Kawhi, yet. Bizarre how people freaking out over end-of-the-bench vet minimum contracts. If Neil screws the pooch, so be it, but it's not like our chances are gone yet...

He's obviously aiming at losing some guards after his acquisitions... People act like he's done are simply being disingenuous.

lol exactly. If trades don’t happen on draft night, they usually don’t happen until after the main waive of free agency and sometimes not until right before training camp. I’m not gonna lose my mind until I see Siakam, Simmons etc actually traded to other teams. The season doesn’t start this week.

Going into Day 3 -- trades can still happen yet you guys whine like it's cool now going to be honest ....

The signings up until this point have been solid signing BUT in terms of talent I do not think were any worse BUT in terms on known talent like we know what we have / getting etc were making the jump that Billups will be able to be a player whisperer and get more out of players and/or consistency for AnT , Snell and McLemore and others.

Now where I will agree is if we do pretty much nothing more and No Trade(s) then I am willing to concede -- NeO is a complete tool and makes it more probable then NOT that Dame will ask out of Pdx and that would be a TOTAL Disaster but we have to give NeO the time to do his thing cause 3 days and 3 signings does not warrant this much whining and bitching I am reading on this forum. I feel like i am one of the few fans that understand everything while still trying to keep a level head while the rest of you are like chicken little and the fucking SKY is falling when it's not ATLEAST not at this time.

CHILL OUT ALL but I am done with this forum until we get some REAL news but everyone have a good day etc and GO BLAZERS ------

PS --- I am considering returning with a website to balance out Edge and that BS cause this season for better or worse is going to be entertaining in terms of stuff to discuss
