in the playoffs:

PER: CJ 15.4....Simmons 17.6
TS%: CJ .530....Simmons .575
eFG%: CJ .503....Simmons .571
reb rate: CJ 6.4%....Simmons 12.5%
assist rate: CJ 13.7%....Simmons 31.5%
winshares 48: CJ .050....Simmons .147
BPM: CJ 0.4....Simmons 3.4

I think it is real hard to compare the stats of guys who are asked to do different things and because of their skill set, actually do different things. CJ isnt going to win any rebounding or assist stat game. Any FG% stat is tough, with CJ taking different shots. Ben shoots most of his at the rim, no? Again, not saying that statistically CJ is going to win any matchup with Simmons, but when these guys have bad playoff games, I (just me) chalk CJs up mostly to off-nights at terrible times, vs Simmons is a mental midget. in the 2021 playoffs, Ben had the 3rd worst Turnover % (tied with our very own Center, Jusef Nurkic), CJ was 53. Of course there are FTs and 3FGs which Ben will never win. But so what? CJ is seriously flawed, which is why everyone wants him gone, so I am not arguing that CJ is better than he is, I just think the question marks of Simmons are there, and people are desperate for a deal. I would not overpay for him.

I've thought about that too. It would prohibit Young (because of salary matching), but I think if we want to really commit to Powell at 3 then having Smart would help. He'd basically eat up Simons' minutes at backup 1 and Powell's minutes at the two. I think Boston needs to move him too. The main issue is that I think they'd want a PG in return, perhaps there's a three way opportunity.

Jones/Simons to ?
? to Boston
Smart to Portland

Then sign Millsap w/tax MLE.

Lillard/Smart
CJ/Smart
Powell/Little
Covington/Millsap
Nurkic/Zeller

I think that is clearly a better team than last year, but it still has issues (obviously).

Portland star Damian Lillard says the Trail Blazers weren't able to get "some of the guys" they would have liked during free agency as he discussed his role in recruiting players with reporters Friday.

"When you go into free agency and things like this, you never know what happens," Lillard said during a media availability at the Tokyo Olympics. "You never know where guys are going to end up and why they go there. You just try to have conversations and convince guys to be a part of our team.

"And obviously, this go around, we wasn’t able to go out there and just get some of the guys that we would have liked, and you go down the list and you go through the guys that are out there that you like who haven’t committed to a team or was a part of your plans in free agency and you get the ones that want to be a part of what you’re doing. And I think that’s what we did."

From the Athletic. Wonder who he’s talking about. Batum and Porter for sure. Not sure who else. Nice to hear he’s been active in recruiting, but our FA options were always limited.

I’m probably super late to the party, but I read that to mean “we barely had any money, so I’m happy with the vet min guys we got”.

Is Neil even going to be able to get Milsap? Someone who he has been trying to get for years and is now at the end of his career. This is just sad

Tony Bradley did. He's a C.

Avery Bradley is still unsigned, but it's questionable what he has left.

Neil will probably sign him after Milsap goes elsewhere

Jack Fischer came on 1080 this morning to clarify the Siakam-CJ stuff.

I don't think Portland has actively looked to move CJ at this point. Portland has not shown much interest at this point. It will be interesting if they do something once Dame comes back from Tokyo.

About the rumor that created all the drama yesterday: Is it that Toronto was asking for a lot, or Olshey just completely resisting CJ trades altogether? I think it's a bit of both. Siakam's value is lower than Ben Simmons' value right now so it's a mixed bag what Toronto would ask for. But the CJ thing--- it's not unique to Portland to overvalue their guys. Similar to Denver and their guys and Boston with Marcus Smart, etc.

Is Portland done? Should we give up hope? I don't want to say that CJ-Siakam is dead. I'm not saying it's alive -- I was just told it didn't go very far. Trades take a while to come to ther final form. Just because a deal doesn't get done immediately doesn't mean they're done. Teams build frameworks at the deadline, but they complete them in the subsequent summer (Lowry to MIA example).

Windhorst reported earlier and there has always been an interest in Portland for Draymond Green. Is there a three team with Philly for Simmons-CJ-Green deal? I'm not saying it's been discussed but I'm piecing together rumors.

The short version: there is no deal coming.

Yep this is Neils championship roster. He REALLY needs to move on from this team. One trip to a sweep in the conference finals is not a feather in your cap when you have been here as long as he has.

Fischer says gun to his head, if Dame is here on opening night, CJ has probably been traded. But that is pure speculation.

Gun to my head, Dame gives big shot Billups a chance and CJ is dealt at the deadline if anything.

With no real moves I think Dame gives Chauncey a shot to make the team play better and Neil a shot to make moves early in the season but I really think that if the deadline is approaching, nothing has been done with the roster and we're losing to playoff teams the way we did last season... Dame's going to be asking to be traded at the deadline.

That's just the feeling I get. I see nothing urgent about giving Neil this entire off season, the whole season and next off season to meet Dame's demands but maybe Neil has sold Dame a bill of goods... I just don't see Dame being gullible.

In other words we are wasting another year of Dames prime and will trade Dame next offseason after we get bounced in the first round again.
Doesn't seem like the page Dame was on when he left for Tokyo but who knows.

Still haven't heard anything from Jody or Bert of late pertaining to the Blazers.

Friday night news dump with regards to our upcoming signing. Might not be a pretty one given the twitter response for Snell/McLemore.

Top forwards still remaining according to Spotrac

that's all fine, but if CJ was actually better than Simmons in the playoffs, he would lead in at least a couple of those categories

yes....there are very legitimate questions about Simmons; and when I consider them, I'm a lot less keen to make him a Blazer. But, he might be Portland's best chance of staving off a Dame trade. Blazers shouldn't spend the farm in pursuing him though

I'd love to get our hands on Markkanen. I think he would be a perfect pick and pop big with Dame.
