Just to weigh in, I am one of those cold, unfeeling individuals that believes that if someone can't pay for a medical treatment (or the insurance that covers it), then they should do without it.
and maxie, would you accept welfare to provide healthcare for you and your family? if you couldnt afford healthcare, would you have everyone else pay the bill for you?
yes or no
Eff that, gimme my check so I can be an adult baby.
yeah, it sucks that a poor kid can be on WIC as a child, live in some pretty crappy parts of some pretty crappy towns, grow up in public schools, work during the summers to save some cash for schooling, join the military, get a college degree, get a life skill, use education benefits for a Master's, pick up a couple of languages on the way, and be in a place where you can contribute to the charity of your choice, the causes of your choice and the quality of life of your choice.
Eff that, gimme my check so I can be an adult baby.
Absolutely. If I had no where else to turn, if I had sold all my assets and if charity couldn't step in, I would. There's nothing wrong with the social safety net; I'm in favor of people having a place to turn as a last resort. Where I do have an issue is people who haven't saved, who have assets and who have alternatives looking for the government to pay.
See, I answer all your questions directly. Try it sometime.
I'll remove the snark. I think everyone would agree that there's not enough money in gov't to give everyone everything they want. So do you want your tax dollars going to programs that help out people in Paragraph One, or those like Adult Baby who just want to take a check and live the way they want to?
ok so you would take welfare if it was available to you, good to know, kinda hard to blame someone else for doing the same thing no?
im not sure what you mean by this adult baby stuff, but i think wic is one of the best welfare programs out there. almost impossible to sell your wic vouchers for drugs.
Re-read my post and reassess your conclusion.
Allow me to give an example of an alternative to government health insurance. One of my son's teachers had her cancer reoccur. Medicare refused to pay for the treatment her team of oncologists recommended, which was roughly $27,000. We held a dinner in her honor (she had taught at the school for over 40 years) and raised over $43,000.
There are alternatives to the government.
ahh ok so you would accept welfare and have everyone else pay for you and your family, but only after you begged from charities first.
So I guess it sucks to be born a poor kid aye?
yes thats right, you can always beg for money, thats a good idea.
"hey poor people, just beg for money, duh"
I have a set of conditions that I listed that are above and beyond what would be required to qualify for government assistance.
you put an extra, self imposed set of rules on yourself, and only after all of those imaginary restrictions are met, would you allow other people to pay for your family. kudos. you would be one of the proudest welfare recipients in history, but a welfare recipient nonetheless.
you dont think there is something wrong with welfare? so you DO think that there is NOTHING wrong with welfare?
geez
i think there are a few things that could be improved on, but if you think its so perfect, good for you.
and lol at "truly in need", from the guy that would sell his daughters bed before he took food stamps
I have a daughter?
...who looks like Chris Farley. Get your shit together
Catastrophic insurance is not health insurance.
I'm not trying to argue with you, just saying lets compare apples to apples.
catastrophic insurance, that covers checkups right? so that they can you know find cancer BEFORE it becomes "catastrophic"? or does obamacare not cover checkups? or are you comparing apples and racecars?
the us currently has the most one of if not the most expensive healthcare systems in the world. every year health care costs continue to rise while insurance companies raise premiums. a large reason why? 50 million uninsured americans who are forced to go to the emergency room for everything from an infected splinter, to a tick bite. as the most expensive place to receive care, going to the ER raises the cost of health care in general.
but hey, i can just make up stuff too, thats fun
well, not exactly...clearly apples and racecars are comparable as food, because they are both red

well jimmy, lifes not always fair, dont worry, ill let you kick a bum later, ok sport?i want to have the shiniest bike on the block, its no fair that the poor family got a shiny bike too![]()
again, life is full of obstacles, but maybe, if you are lucky enough to get into heaven, you can make fun of them in the afterlife! thatll show em'what good is being better than everyone if i cant live longer than them?
eww, now those gross poor people will think that they can talk to me.
maybe this is just a raging case of penis envy, and i am mad at the world because god gave me a little cock

It absolutely is health insurance.
One of the big arguments coming out here is "what is a child gets life threatening cancer"? Catastrophic insurance covers the types of things that proponents of universal healthcare use as extreme examples of why we should be covering everybody. You don't here arguments for "what about when a child has the sniffles and needs to go get a prescription".
No BB, you're the one who is comparing "Obama care" to Catastrophic insurance for price comparisons. That's not accurate comparisons.
