No. The Chargers moved because they would be worth a lot more money in LA. But even with a new stadium nobody will see their sorry ass.

that was PART of the reason. A big reason is that the city of San Diego didn't want to do the "necessary repairs" to the stadium, and the fans didn't want to pay for another upgrade without the guarantee of them staying.

I hate when teams like the Chargers move. The only reason lately that teams have moved is stadium related in one way or another. Cities that take a stand and won't use taxpayer money to build rich owners a new stadium (right or wrong) are paying the price. Now if your argument is that when the Blazers need a new arena that the city won't pay for a new one thus leading to whoever owns them at that point to look elsewhere then maybe you'd be right but it's all just speculation at this point.

So they went from playing in a cement dump like Qualcomm to a soccer band box at the Stubhub Center. I don't know if either is desirable.

Lets just get Baseball to Portland sometime soon. Who really gives a rats ass about Seattle? Starbucks is way too expensive.

I dont think baseball will happen here. I just don't have enough faith that the local populace will pass the necessary measures or give the local groups the tax breaks they probably need to get it done. If it was maybe 30 years ago, I think the demographics were there support of a pro team but now I just have no faith in locals. Hell, I think more people hate baseball here than like it.

getting to play in a brand new stadium that you didn't have to pay for is a nice incentive.

None of what you said is based in facts.

What happens first, NBA to Shitattle, or MLB or NHL to Portland?

Are you trying to tell me that Portland is a hot bed of baseball fervor?

No, because the opposite of what you suggested isn't "hot bed of baseball fervor".

I will admit, the local area has grown quite a bit in the last ten to fifteen years, but I still don't see it as one of the cities that will get a new team. Maybe if a team like the Oakland A's moves, I could possibly see that. But they'd still have to have a stadium deal in place.

Since the commish of baseball has pretty much said Portland will be 1st on the list of cities in the next expansion, and the Portland Diamond Group has pretty much said they will pay for the new stadium without using public funds (and there is the tax that the state of Oregon passed...shit, 15 years ago now?), I'm not sure why you're bringing that up as an issue.

And Manfred has also said that Montreal is deserving of a team too, until they have the cake cutting and franchise free paid for, I am skeptical. We have had potential groups interested before only to have it fall through. I am sorry, but like I said, my faith in this matter isn't great.

Don't get me wrong. I'm not convinced it will ever happen here. NOT because I don't think it would work here, but because i've seen this dog and pony show before.

My bro is at the game wearing a McCollum jersey. Lower level too behind the hoop

Bandwagon ass seattle making this a home Warriors game.

If they expand it will be two teams so they can have 16 in each league. Montreal and Portland aren't competing against each other for the two spots. Baseball has said they want at least one of the two teams to be in the west. Montreal wouldn't qualify for that.

To be fair, Charlotte deserves a shot too. That's a baseball mad area, one of the last in the country. I can't imagine they wouldn't listen to a NC group.

I agree with him. I used to think that some fan bases were above reproach, but then the NFL took Chargers away from San Diego. Oh sorry, Alex Spanos took the Chargers away from SD and the league did nothing. San Diego literally is responsible for changng NFL history, offensively, and not even NFL fans gave much of a shit. I could easily see the same thing happening here. "Sorry Portland brahs, just drive up I-5. So sorry." And as long as they have at least one team in the NW, the NBA wouldn't care.
Don Coryell is criminally underrated.

I think they built Key Arena for the Wo

Don Coryell is criminally underrated.

I was actually thinking of Sid Gilman and Lance Alsworth. That's how hard San Diego got fucked. They revolutionized NFL offenses TWICE and still nobody gave a shit about the history of the franchise. That's why I know they wouldn't wait ten seconds before deciding our fate. The only thing that matters is $$$$.

Yeah, Charlotte is one that would be competing with Montreal for the other spot. Their bid, if they have one, won't effect whether or not Portland gets a team.

Not trying to be a jerk, but your clueless & simply not paying attention if you think the Blazers will ever move from Portland. There are a lot of teams that would LOVE to have the fan and business support the Blazers have. There is absolutely no reason the Blazers would ever leave. None.

Agree 100%. See below.

While I agree with you, similar exhortations were spoken by more than one Sonics fan in 2005-06.

Apples to oranges.two significant reasons why this wont happen.
1. Portland is a one major sport town. seattle had all three.
2. Portland is in the midst of a major hotel boom with the goal to land an all star game. If we lose the team then this boom could devestate our economy. Not enough going on to support these hotels if the team leaves. No way the city lets that happen.

You're suggesting that the hotel boom is being done land an all star game/weekend? A one time deal?

The Blazers landing a one time deal is not the goal of the city for building new hotels. Bringing in bigger conventions is more likely the goal. I know that the Blazers leaving would be bad for the city, but to give the team that much credit for hotels being built is laughable.

This city wont have anything like the all star game with regards to impact.
Yes the hotels are for more than just the asg, but if you don't think that is the majority factor you are fooling yourself. The exposure that the weekend provides will in turn create more conventions to want to be held here.
No doubt the asg is a one time thing but that one time thing is as big as all other conventions combined for like five years.
Name anything else that will bring anything close to the star power, revenue and overall shine to the world for a weekend like the asg would give us?

I think you're over-stating just how much potential future business the asg/asw brings.

Its possible I am believing the wrong sources here -
Ive been led to believe that most ‘events’ all star games, olympics, superbowls, and things that really can grind a city to a halt for days or more are normally more of a financial burden overall then they are a boon. Now for a really large city say LA or NY they’re so immense they have the infrastructure to handle those type of events without much of an issue. A city portlands size though would be debilitated for a while, which in the long run would cause businesses to be unable to do business, which hurts the local economy.

Ive got no real proof of that other than Ive heard talking heads on the radio or TV allude to that, I could be very wrong.
