Aiight here’s the deal. Tolliver and Mario have offered next to nothing offensively. They have the two lowest obpm among the rotation players. Mario is however one of the few guys on the team that defends, and the numbers back it up, as he’s third on the team in dbpm behind Baze and Skal.
It’s too early to be making trades, so we have to deal with what we’ve got. I don’t know if solution is the word, but the first order of business should be to consider taking Tolliver completely out of the rotation. That’s roughly 20 minutes freed up, not an insignificant number, especially considering most of the issues are with the second unit. Mario should probably see his minutes reduced, but honestly, he hasn’t really been given the ball the way he got it in preseason. When he’s with the starters, he’s basically just standing around while dame/CJ go ISO.
My rotation starting tonight, assuming Hood is a go:
Dame
CJ
Baze
Hood
Whiteside
Second unit
Simons
Hood
Little/Trent
Hezonja/Little
Skal
Trent played well on both ends yesterday, so he probably deserves another look tonight as well. This is obviously not ideal, but running Tolliver and Hezonja out there for a combined 40 minutes isn’t working either.
btw I do think Olshey should consider signing another big, but I also have no idea where Gasol is in his rehab.
