Yeah except Stauskas is missing shots and turning the ball over.Well... I mean it's just about all of them on defense that's killing us...
Didn't think this was worth a thread and most people are viewing this thread so I'm going to leave this here for now...
For those that call for more off ball action Dame and CJ ( and others ), here are a few reasons why our personnel makes it hard for that to be large and effective part of our offense and more importantly, a way we can improve our chances in the playoffs.
- All of our forwards and bigs minus Zach and Meyers are not reliable shooters which makes it easy for teams to "top lock" which makes it hard for Dame/CJ to both use screens or back cut since the big is free to lay back in the paint and help.
- Dame and CJ are same sized guards which makes them very switchable in situations where they are screening for each other in "split action". There are ways to take advantage of switching defense against split action but good teams take that stuff away, especially in the playoffs when teams gameplan more.
- Evan Turner is our only other rotation player who can somewhat reliably handle and make decisions w/ the ball. Problem is, he's a non-shooter which makes it easy for his defender to lay off which shrinks passing lanes.
- Off ball action aka "system buckets" largely fall by the wayside in the playoffs (see Utah vs Houston in last year's playoffs). This comes from a combination better game planning, but also playing against teams with personnel more equipped to switch any off ball screening action.
We also use Dame and CJ off the ball more now than people care to realize....
For real... and hes not able to protect the rim since hes getting stuck on stretch 4s, so we have Meyers guarding the rim and getting stuck on guys like Rudy Gay.Collins has been a nonfactor since switching to playing 4. I'm glad Meyers is finally doing something but it may be time to shorten the rotation...
Or play him at his natural position....Okay, I'm tired of Zach. Send his ass to D-league until he can get his head on straight.
Maybe the Blazers can draft Myles Gaskin...We run more hand-offs a game than a run-heavy NFL offense.
