I don’t think anyone doubts that CJ is a good player... I think the issue is that Dame is a superstar, and there are better ways to use the salary cap then committing $30+ mil per year the next 4 seasons to CJ.

the person I originally responded to did. We could easily do a lot worse than a McCollum/ Lillard backcourt and it wouldn't be easy to do much better. Heck, there were some who were ready to dump McCollum and promote Simons to starting shooting guard.

Joe Dumars career stats - 16ppg, 46%FGP, 38% 3ptfgp, 15.1 PER - good defender
CJ, 46% FGP, 38% 3ptfgp, 16.8 PER

Dumars was one of the preeminante defenders in the league during his era. CJ is....not.
So they may have some similar shooting numbers on offense but to ignore the other 50% where there is a Grand Canyon size gap is disrespectful to Joe D.

CJ is a very selfish player. Who is sometimes good at one thing, then is pretty much nicolas batum without the stats if he isnt on. Useless.

Wasn't very selfish tonight. Matter of fact he hasn't been selfish at all for this entire run Lillard is making right now. One thing i have also noticed he has been holding the team together and facilitating very well during the portion of his shift that Lillard is on the bench. Tonight vs Utah he made some huge baskets played very good defense and his two man game with Melo is very tough to defend.

So, who in your opinion is the best defending 2 guard in the league now?

Marcus Smart and Klay Thompson were 1st and 2nd team All NBA Defense last year. They are not in Joe's class but are light years ahead of CJ. As focused and determined as CJ is on the offensive end, it would be nice to see some of that tranlate over to the other side of the ball.
