Do you think the Grizzlies will finish ahead of the Blazers at season's end?

  • Total voters
    23
  • Poll closed .
They have guys in their rotation that wouldn't be in ours. We have more upper tier talent. I didn't say they didn't have good talent.

well, now I don't know what you mean by upper-tier talent. If I was defining that, I'd say there were two players total on both teams with upper-tier talent and that's Dame and Morant and Dame is in likely the biggest funk of his career, probably for 3 or 4 different reasons

Memphis played tonight without Jaren Jackson, their 2nd best player, and still won the game

Body language is so obvious, this team isn’t bothered by losing. I’ll keep saying it; Dame is finished with Stotts. It’s not even that hard to buy. His agent/manager has been openly complaining about coaching for awhile now on social media. I’d be naive to believe Dame isn’t thinking the same shit.

Lol the levels people go to push their narrative. Memphis has maybe 4 players who would be in our 9 man rotation.

You think Melton would get even a minute of PT here?

c'mon man...Morant, Jackson, JV, Brooks, Anderson, Clarke, Winslow. They have more rotational players than you're crediting

and Melton is averaging 18-5-5 per36 while shooting 45% on three's and posting a .610 TS%; his PER would rank 4th on the Blazers

He should if he was in the team.

However, there are two problems:
1) Olshey doesn't believe in having a backup PG
2) Stotts doesn't believe in playing a defensive minded player significant minutes

well, at least Melo got to bark at the Memphis bench...I'm so happy for Portland giving him the opportunity to trash-talk

This thread is telling. During the Melo run and then the 15-3 run, this place got dead quiet. Not everyone here is a Blazers fan.
Two explanations:
1. We were glued to the screen in amazement - "they're...not fucking up!!!"
2. Watching us cut into a lead with Melo is like watching your kid not study for a class and guess the right answers and then think s/he doesn't need to change.

Whether or not he would ACTUALLY get minutes, he sure as shit would DESERVE them:

Powell has been incredibly unclutch in this losing stretch.

Missed wide open corner 3 to beat Boston
Missed floater to beat Denver
Horrible turnover against Memphis.

Hope he gets a chance to make up for it!
I'm getting a definite Afflalo vibe from Powell. Have we won a game since we traded for him?

(Only half joking.)

CJ and Powell would be their second and third best players after Morant. Nurk would start over Val. Nothing I'm saying is provocative. We have way more talent and experience than they do. Every coach in the league would agree.

Postgame Notes – April 25, 2021
Memphis 120, Portland 113
Game No. 60, Home Game No. 32

TEAM
• The Grizzlies narrowly outrebounded the Trail Blazers, 54-53. It was the sixth time Portland has recorded at least 53 boards this season, and first time they’ve recorded 50+ in back-to-back games.
• Portland shot 14-of-38 (36.8%) from beyond the arc, while Memphis was 12-of-23 (52.2%) from 3-PT range. Portland has now hit at least 14 threes in 42 games this season, the second-most behind the Utah Jazz (44). The Grizzlies 52.2% marked their second-best shooting performance from deep this season (57.9%, Feb. 25 vs. LAC).
• The Trail Blazers outscored the Grizzlies 16-0 in fourth quarter transition scoring. Portland’s 26 total fast break points was the second-highest total of the 2020-21 season (30, Jan. 7 vs MIN). The Grizzlies finished with 33 fast break points.
• Portland recorded 11 steals to nine for Memphis, recording 11+ for the seventh time this season.

PLAYER
• CJ McCollum led Portland with 27 points (10-21 FG, 4-10 3-PT, 3-3 FT), two rebounds and three assists. It was McCollum’s fifth game scoring 20+ points in his last six appearances.
• Jusuf Nurkic recorded 16 points (6-13 FG, 4-5 FT), 19 rebounds, five assists, one steal and two blocks. Nurkic recorded 15+ rebounds in consecutive contests for the first time in his career, and his 19 rebounds tied the fourth-highest total of his career.
• Damian Lillard added 23 points (8-27 FG, 4-10 3-PT, 3-3 FT), six rebounds, five assists, one steal and one block. Lillard has now scored at least 20 points in each of his last seven games against the Grizzlies.
• Norman Powell finished with 17 points (7-15 FG, 3-4 FT), five rebounds, four assists and three steals. It was his seventh game of the season with at least three steals.
• Carmelo Anthony scored 12 points (4-8 3-PT), to go with three rebounds and two steals. All 12 of his points came in the fourth quarter.
• Anfernee Simons had eight points (2-2 3-PT, 2-2 FT), two rebounds and one assist in 13 minutes off the bench.
• Enes Kanter recorded seven points (2-3 FG, 3-4 FT), five rebounds and one block.
• Ja Morant led Memphis with 28 points (8-15 FG, 3-4 3-PT, 9-12 FT), eight rebounds, three assists and two steals. Morant has recorded at least 28 points in each of his last two games, doing so for just the third time in his career.
• Jonas Valanciunas added 21 points (9-17 FG, 3-4 3-PT), 10 rebounds, two assists and two steals. It was his 41st double-double of the season, tied for the third-most in the league, and his three made three-pointers tied a career-high (twice).

I'm getting a definite Afflalo vibe from Powell. Have we won a game since we traded for him?

(Only half joking.)

I'm not down on his overall production, but he's been rough in critical moments.

CJ and Powell would be their second and third best players after Morant. Nurk would start over Val. Nothing I'm saying is provocative. We have way more talent and experience than they do. Every coach in the league would agree.

Jaren Jackson is as good as CJ or Powell, and will be better soon, if he isn't already

Jaren Jackson is better than either CJ or Powell

To your point, I seriously doubt Memphis would trade Jackson for either of those two.

They might not even trade Morant for Dame either. Or Valanciunas for Nurk. Or Brooks for DJJ. Or Anderson for RoCo.

Jaren Jackson is as good as CJ or Powell, and will be better soon, if he isn't already

No he's not. He's got youth and "potential" but he's not actually better right now. But even if you think he is, my point still stands, the talent disparity on the floor is monumental since Jackson didn't play today.

He’s gonna leave and we will have gotten nothing for GTJ, which was my fear from the start.

At least we got a massive haul for LMA, Wesley Matthews, Barton/Affalo as Dame was coming into his own...

Oh wait, we got nothing for them too.

Over the last ten games, per 48 minutes stats:
Player 1:
Points: 24.3
Rebs: 4.0
Assts: 2.8
fg% 44
3% 29.5
-22 in 361 mins

Player 2:
Points: 21.7
Rebs: 5.0
Assts: 3.4
fg% 45
3% 42.9
+36 in 126 mins

Guess the players

They might not even trade Morant for Dame either.

they wouldn't trade Morant for Dame, especially after the last 48 hours. Morant's upside is huge while Dame's super-max is a trade albatross

and of course they wouldn't trade Jackson for CJ or Powell. I wouldn't be surprised if they wouldn't trade Brooks for either of them, not that Brooks is as good, although he is a two-way player who plays with intensity and effort

This reminds me of my packers 2 years ago when the star and the coach stop seeing eye to eye. It was the star player that made the coach look good for along time. The coach got fire that off season brought in a new coach and went to the NFC conference finally.

We could get Allen for CJ though!
