Gary Payton II Trade to the Warriors (1 Viewer)

Cronin alluding to that.

Remind everyone this is only ONE side of the story: the Warriors and Gary's. Of course it's going to look bad.

I think, in a case like this, the protocol is for an independent examination by an unaffiliated physician. But that can't happen before tomorrow, I'd imagine. this could be a real mess.

Reading into this, could be a parting shot by Gary. I don't know if his agent is involved, his agent represents Dame and Thybulle as well. But all the negative reports that surfaced on Portland's side after the trade.....and now this comes out a day after.

The truth is out there somewhere and it's probably somewhere in the middle. I still think it's SUPER fucking odd that none of the players (including Dame, who pushed for Gary and was super excited for him) seemed to give a single shit about the trade even though you saw they clearly cared about Josh Hart.

seems like there are some bad feelings and none of the Blazer players had much respect for Payton

until proven otherwise I'm assuming this is PR work by Payton & agent

Does anyone have a subscription to the Athletic? Is there more details in the article?

Why? Who's "us"? Portland FO? Who gives a fuck?
The Portland Trailblazers and their fans. If we repeat the tax there will be even less likelihood we make any substantial moves in the offseason. But you know that, you were just being obtuse.

The warriors have quite a financial incentive to push the trade through anyways...

The same agent that represents Dame and just got his other client Thybulle to Portland?

Shockingly, Dwight Jaynes is taking the Shams report as gospel.

this is on cronin, because they clearly didn't do due diligence BEFORE they signed him in July. He should have never been a blazer.

Yeah, I'm inclined to agree. The whole "forcing him to play" thing sounds dubious. Mind you, he did keep saying he was still in pain and we were getting more or less antsy. He could genuinely have felt pressured into playing. Weird that he and Dame both had similar injuries. I can't remember ever hearing about such an injury before Dame.

To clarify...all they sent out was Wiseman. How is it such a financial issue for the them?

It sounds more like botched surgery, to be honest. And the surgery happened after he was signed, right?

Okay I laughed my ass off when I heard this for one reason:

Gary hated being here and now for the time being he's stuck and has to come back (I'm aware he won't but the thought is funny as hell)

Am I crazy? Was the fact that Payton had a missed a majority of the season with a core injury kept top secret?

Golden St acting like they had no clue about this is wild. Like they didn't talk to Payton's agent before the trade.

They are in super tax territory. The difference between his salary and GP2's for this year and next, with the tax penalty they will get, comes to almost $30m iirc (edit, $30m next year, $7m this year)

Could this be a ploy by the Warriors to get GP for cheaper? Rescind the deal, have GP then be bought out by the Blazers (there is no way he will still play here with all this), then sign him for cheap off the buyout market?

didn't he go to the same guy that Dame/Nas did?

i read up on him (he taught at my alma mater). seemed like the premiere guy doing these kinda procedures

Great. All we need are more reasons for players not to want to come here.

this is a good point.

also a reminder.... he got injured while in GS in the first place.

If so, Dame is fine. I guess it's possible to botch one and not the other. It seems like GP should have been healed by this point.

Right.
