Gary Payton II Trade to the Warriors (3 Viewers)

I never heard anyone touting that as a reason for getting him. It was always his defense. That said, he’s a good culture guy and I’m sure he did some mentoring.

I actually heard that a lot of the Blazers were fed up with his inability to play. He milked his injury and was way too affable with opposing players.

They thought he was ready to come back earlier than he did but his agent insisted he wasn’t ready. Meanwhile he was practicing with the team just fine.

In my eyes, he didn’t even want to come to Portland. It was the fact they offered way more than anyone else that brought him here.

getting a fat check, faking injuries, and leaving crummy Portland for warm weather and another chance at a title. That's one helluva thing to teach.

Warm weather? Bay Area is like 60 degrees year round.

Payton is one of those players that’s only really valuable to a handful of teams. I thought it was a bad signing during the summer and he did nothing to prove my feelings wrong. I wanted him and Nurk off the team so I guess I’m kinda happy.

Why not? It's not his fault that Jody is a bot.
The debate if it's totally Cronin's fault can be had. To make it seem like he's getting a free pass, unlike Olshey, is not accurate. The second part is what I was responding to.

He can't help but be what he is.

He was promoted. He was given the job without any kind of actual hiring process.

If I let my toddler drive my truck, is it her fault if she crashes?

Given two of the seconds are unlikely to convey, we're only up net +1 second after these trades.

what are you basing that on....that tweet about Atlanta's outgoing draft picks? I see two that will almost certainly convey and one that probably won't. But that is only the Atlanta part of the trade. There are a couple of other 2nds, a 2026 from Memphis and a 2028 from Golden State.

uhhh...that tweet was only about Atlanta outgoing Atlanta picks. 3 of them go to Portland, and the Blazers get two other 2nd's from other teams
I know that was only looking at the Hawks side of the trade.
Why hasn't it been reported that GSW received 2 2nds and sent out 2 2nds?

Do we know for sure Portland got 2nds from the Warriors?

Again, the post you responded to was in response to someone implying Cronin isn't getting critized like Olshey would have and me responding that he is in fact receiving plenty of heat around here.

The debate on how much of the blame he deserves is another topic.

I thought the Memphis pick was protected 42-60 but it's actually 30-42, so 4. That 2025 hawks pick is not gonna convey. We sent out two in the Thybulle deal. So +2

They can be traded before the year they are conveyed or not, as has happened here. We can trade them all this summer. They have value while theoretically they could convey.

Can we never sing any ex golden state warrior player ever again? Festus and now Ezil have been god awful signings for us.

You don't have to like Aldo but he's 100000000% right about GP2. Dude is a big snitch and came only to Portland because the Blazers offered him the biggest bag, but he never wanted to be here, and i'm sure he faked injurys.

If the second round picks might not convey when they are lower than #45 thats fine. Nearly all the value of a second round pick is with it being in the 31-45 range.

But if their protected so the Blazers don't get them if their in the 31-45 range then its worth next to nothing.

Still would like to see a good list of what the Blazers acquired on draft day and what they have in total for future picks.

..... I've never heard of being a good GM as being a complete dick and not having at least a working relationship.

But if you want to be mad at illogicall made-up-to-fit your narrative of always being negative, then enjoy.

False. My posts are not "always being negative". I've been one of the loudest Sharpe fans on this forum and applaud the Blazers/Cronin/Jody for drafting him. I call out the team when they make stupid decisions. If you want to read delusion homer fans that spin everything as rainbows and sunshine then yeah I don't do that.

Maybe I have been more negative the last few years, but that coincides with the teams negative performance. When your franchise is failing its its objectives for multiple seasons I don't see how anyone objective can be constantly positive?

Where did I imply Cronin would be a good GM if he was a dick without a working relationship?

Giving Cronin an excuse for making poor moves because he is a "rookie" GM and doesn't yet have a "relationship" with other GM's is ridiculous and I called it out as such. Cronin made statements saying he had all the necessary experience for these responsibilities; so either its a stupid fan justification or Cronin is misrepresenting his abilities. I believe its the former.

Cronin can be judged by the merit of his roster moves, same as every other GM in the league. If you and others don't agree with that its your issue... its' not rational fans "always being negative"

Only pick that’s probably not good is the 2026 top 42 protected from grizzlies. Otherwise the others are good value

Bottom line, he used Portland.

Cronin & Co. got played by a journeyman level player

Luckily the Blazers got something out of it in the end as well with these second round picks. Are the picks worth the opportunity cost of signing a different free agent instead of GP2 and not being hard capped? You could make an argument either way. But ultimately the Blazers haven't had a clear loss as can be the case with many free agents (ie Ezili, Turner, Meyers, etc)

Golden State ultimately lost Wiseman for nothing and could've just given GP2 his current contract in the summer. So some would say they got played as well.

The thing I find odd is supposedly Dame was such a proponent of the GP2 signing and had a good relationship with GP2.
