Gary Payton II Trade to the Warriors (3 Viewers)

False. My posts are not "always being negative". I've been one of the loudest Sharpe fans on this forum and applaud the Blazers/Cronin/Jody for drafting him. I call out the team when they make stupid decisions. If you want to read delusion homer fans that spin everything as rainbows and sunshine then yeah I don't do that.

Maybe I have been more negative the last few years, but that coincides with the teams negative performance. When your franchise is failing its its objectives for multiple seasons I don't see how anyone objective can be constantly positive?

Where did I imply Cronin would be a good GM if he was a dick without a working relationship?

Giving Cronin an excuse for making poor moves because he is a "rookie" GM and doesn't yet have a "relationship" with other GM's is ridiculous and I called it out as such. Cronin made statements saying he had all the necessary experience for these responsibilities; so either its a stupid fan justification or Cronin is misrepresenting his abilities. I believe its the former.

Cronin can be judged by the merit of his roster moves, same as every other GM in the league. If you and others don't agree with that its your issue... its' not rational fans "always being negative"

Just put him on ignore. He’s like the combat warrior homer.

Someone needs to issue Strennus a badge.

Lol I was drinking last night when I wrote that. But my point is that ex warrior players we pick up have been poison for us.

I have to admit I am not understanding this "he got played" or "he did not get played" angst. Building an NBA roster given the limited resource of talent (players), the need to adhere to strict and complicated rules (CBA) and the inexact science of fit within a scheme and roster, plus development and the fact that the resource is human - you are going to have some wins, you are going to have some losses.

The Blazers correctly identified a need given the fact that Dame (especially with Ant next to him) are the foundation of the team. On paper, GP2 fills that hole perfectly and the Blazers were able to do it using a relatively small amount of the CAP (in NBA terms). In reality, because of some unknown issues - including health (inherent in the human condition) it did not work out and the Blazers pivoted quick.

This is inexact science, and it was a small investment that did not pay-off and the Blazers have found a replacement (MT) that hopefully works better and got back a bunch of 2nd round picks that might help in the future. Seems like a reasonable course of action.

You identify a problem, you try a solution, if it works, great, if not, you adjust and try something else. Exactly what the Blazers did. That's just normal, smart problem solving technique.

Around the 7:05 mark or so - the rumor is that the Blazers really worked GSW to get each and every last one of these 2nd round picks.

Are the Blazers working to steal the seemingly multi decade dominance of the Kings and Wolves as the worst western conference destinations and worst run organizations?

Shocking that we have an All-NBA Dame here, in one of his best seasons ever, yet still have this dynamic.

I hated the Payton signing and knew he wouldn't matter much in Portland. I wish we'd used that signing slot to get a decent big guy, but given the error I'm glad we got something.

I think I'd rather have taken Wiseman than the picks, if he were available, but something is better than nothing.

We literally could've traded him to GSW for James Weisman...

It starts at the top. Bad ownership, bad front office, bad team.

Anything Quick posts has to be viewed with a high degree of skepticism.

Yeah thats my worry; as though even if Sharpe becomes an MVP, Ant an allstar, and the Blazers draft 2 stars this summer the team will be turned into shit from horrible ownership.

We have Wiseman on our roster right now. He's Ibou Badji.

I haven't seen the guy out of warmups so who really cares? We're giving minutes to a guy who gets dunked on by Donte DiVencenzo...

Most of us were screaming to the heavens for a competent backup big man but here we are. And here we are still.
James Weisman would've given them a reason to play someone else besides Drew. Badji does not.

It's not as though everything was perfect then Quicks quote came out to spoil the show. The Blazers team is performing terrible and changing strategic directions multiple times a year. Multiple players are saying how they want to leave for the second year in a row. It looks just like those shitty run organizations.

Yes some of it is reading between the lines so maybe me or others are misinterpreting. But its at the least very concerning.

That wouldn't be too surprising. Never had a good vibe from this ownership.

Wiseman is a young dude with potential, with one year left on his contract at $12m next year. I don’t understand not taking a look. If you have a million second round picks you’d love to use one of them on a young guy like Wiseman.

We had a million 2nd rounders. They were just in the form of a GP2.

Cronin should be FIRED. Sadly, this won't happen until Jody Sells the team.

I can't stand that FASCIST Phil Knight, but he'd at least go into the luxury tax to put a great team together...

Because they Warriors are pretty good talent evaluators and he's not worth the cap space.

God i knew GP2 rubbed me the wrong way and when I told ya that you guys ate me up

Bottom line, he used Portland.

Cronin & Co. got played by a journeyman level player
Could be said they used him? They might have known all along he was going back and they just did another GM a favor and collected their fee?
GS has to cover that contract now. Not the Blazers. Now the Blazers have a little breathing room and some picks they didn't have.

so....Payton confirms he is an asshole. He took 8.3M from Portland (pro-rated); he then faked/exaggerated/lied-about injury; he then went thru motions on the floor the few games he did play. He only played in 15 of 55 games. Portland paid 5.6M for 61 points and 39 rebounds. After shitting on the Blazers while there, he shits on them more after leaving

fuck that guy...I have no respect at all for him

Have you watched him much? He's terrible.

I've watched him a bunch and he's MUCH better than 5 2nds on a team who doesn't need picks.
I'd take a flyer on the #2 pick for a guy who wanted to leave and never wanted to play here in the first place.
