I dunno man. Feel like we got played by this guy. Used us to get a bigger deal than anyone. Then wouldnt play and rehabbed for much longer than the team docs called for, then got traded back to his old team? Leaves a sour taste

Honestly though, whatever. 8 million or so for 5 seconds. That's a bargain these days.

Cronin is a rookie GM...he needs to build relationships with every GM and agent in the league. Ainge blew him off this deadline to deal with the Lakers. We may want to deal with Golden State again down the road in a deal. Obviously, Joe needed roster spots to bring in the new guys...that's part of it.

This is sure not what Joe touted when he was the interim, said he'd lead trade discussion talks for years. If he needs a "relationship" in order to do the most basic aspects of his job then he's a terrible GM.

Marang saying both the Blazers and GP were amenable to parting ways.

just got home from a 'quick' trip to Waldport today. more action

the Payton-->Portland was a very low IQ soap opera. Cronin fucked up signing him and hard capping the team. Then salvages it a little by getting 5 second's even though I'm suspecting they will be poor second's except for maybe the Charlotte 2025 pick

Payton for Knox...right? That cuts 5.3M in salary...substantial. I don't know anything really about Knox. He has decent numbers in limited minutes in 42 games. 37% on three's is good and so is a .612 TS%

..... I've never heard of being a good GM as being a complete dick and not having at least a working relationship.

But if you want to be mad at illogicall made-up-to-fit your narrative of always being negative, then enjoy.

Idk I don't really mind someone rehabbing longer. Sure the team docs cleared him but only he knows how his body truly feels. Lots of players have reinjured themselves by listening to team docs instead of their bodies/personal doctors that are not paid by the owner. Hell Oden's career got fucked over by shitty team docs on the Blazers back then. The team docs had him wear like extended shoe gels to try to make his legs even--that was just a recipe for disaster because the team was desperate for him to play.

For the most part team doctors do fine work but there is also times when there's a conflict of interest and maybe pressure from ownership to clear players to get them back on the court when they're not 100% ready--both physically and mentally. I really liked seeing a superstar in Kawhi telling the Spurs doctors to shove it and he'd play when he was ready haha.

Edit: The Warriors are known for having a fantastic sports medicine team so I can't blame him for not trusting the Blazers guys after he witnessed the Warriors staff.

Let's make a new rule: No more signing of fringe GSW players who are propped up by all the freedom and easily looks created by Steph/Dray/Klay.

I'm never comfortable taking role players off the GSW, just like I wasn't taking Spurs players in the 2000-2010's. Multi-time MVPs have the ability to make decent players look good.

With 5 second round picks I should probably watch a bit more NCAA ball this year..

We shoulda known what he was about when he explicitly told everyone he just went to the team that gave him the most $

this one hurts he was one of my favorite players from OSU. I watched a ton of his games and watched when he played for GS. He didn’t look like the same player I didn’t see him him have one of his signature highlight dunks, just didn’t seem to want to show the team or fans much. Disappointed…..

From a source close to the team:

“He waited long past the time the team thought he was ready to play to take the court. He and his trainer were calling the shots, he told the team he didn't trust them and that created the rift. There were some off the court situations I can't really get into. It almost appears that he got paid by PDX and did all he could to get back to the Bay. He frustrated the front office, Dame, and a number of teammates. not good when you give him a full mid-level.”

I’ve seen a lot of smaller stuff going around about him and I know with my eyes I haven’t seen him at a full sprint once this entire season on the court.

What I tell ya

I kinda feel like these 2nd rounders are valuable, they are good for helping complete a trade and with the uncertainty around drafting High School players maybe we get lucky with one of these picks once that resumes, 2024 right?

Also got 2026 Memphis second round and 2028 warriors second round. Actually a solid haul for a guy who didn’t wanna be here
they signed him 6 months ago! why didn't they vet him before bringing him in?!

if olshey had done this, this forum would have raked him over the coals

Considering how frequently Portland was in the rumors for getting Thybulle - there is someone on the staff that thinks highly of him... I bet he at least get the QO.
They thought highly of Payton a few months ago also. I hope Thybulle can prove something on the court.

He's a rookie GM and he's addressed that already...I like him, he has skills but Ainge strung him along and dumped him for the Lakers which by then a few other guys he was interested in were already traded....I think Joe has also put together a hell of a staff that's knowlegeable....some things are out of his control....the Lakers and Suns and Mavs changed everything when it comes to win now spending. It's obvious he's keeping Nurk and signing Grant off season. I wouldn't go into the tax for this under 500 team that's streaky at this point. I'm sure they won't either...summer maybe different.
